HTC Incredible :: Battery Icon Doesn't Drain
Aug 3, 2010
So I noticed that my battery icon is showing nearly a solid green battery, just slightly below it (a thin sliver of black). I've been on the phone for over an hour, played some games, got some e-mails etc and was wondering why it hasn't moved because before (had the phone since the beginning of May) it always seems to drop pretty accurately based on my usage (granted it's just observation, never studied it or anything). I went to settings - about phone - battery - and saw that I'm actually at 70%...but yet the icon hasn't moved down. Played a game for about 3 minutes and checked again, and the green icon now accurately shows what a 70% battery life should look like. Does anybody else know if their icon doesn't accurately represent their usage? Is this nothing to worry about? haha just concerned it will lag more and more with time or something...

I have a Motorola Milestone with Android 2.1. I'd like an app which shows the battery level in the notification bar. Nothing fancy, no estimation of remaining battery life nor fancy eye candy. If it can show a more precise reading than the Milestone built-in one, which only decreases in 10% intervals, fine, but only if this isn't a drain on the battery. I know there are several such apps, but which do you think is the best for my needs? There are so many it's hard to try them all and choose. I just want something basic and simple which doesn't drain the battery. I tried "battery indicator" and "battery status pro"; they both do what I need, but I'm afraid they might be an additional drain on the battery.

Since updating google maps last Friday, my GPS icon goes on all the time and my battery seems to drain faster. I cannot shut it off except to cycle the power on my phone. Anyone else notice this?

I want to make (yet another) news widget. Initially I thought it was enough to: 1. Download all the news articles 2. Update the widget every 5 seconds to change the currently displayed article using Alarm Manager (Alarm Manager.RTC) 3. Update the widget every 30-60 minutes to get new articles. This worked great on the first try but battery was quickly drained. I checked the logs and it turned out that the widget did the 5 second updates even if the screen was off. This was a surprise to me since the docs states: "..set an alarm with an Intent that your AppWidgetProvider receives, using the Alarm Manager. Set the alarm type to either ELAPSED_REAL TIME or RTC, which will only deliver the alarm when the device is awake. " I guess the device is considered "awake" even if screen is off? I found the same issue here: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa. I then checked the standard news widget and the other news widgets most popular on the Android Market and I see that they have services running all the time. Maybe because they want to handle the broadcast event when the screen is turned off? So is this really the best solution to have a service running in the background? So if someone downloads 10 different news widgets from different companies they end up with a list of 10 services in the "Running services" list?

I loaded bb v1.0 with the 1.0 ghz kernel pete has on my friends droid. It is the same setup on mine. His battery was dead within 3 hourss. I noticed his sync icon is in the notifcation panel however it is not spinning. I think the calender is trying to sync and there fore is draining the battery. I deselected the auto sync option but the sync icon is still in the notification panel. Any suggestions what is going on or how to remove the sync icon. I rebooted and killed apps via task manager with negatives results.

So this weekend was my first real world test using the GPS turn by turn for a long car ride (about an hour). I had everything all set plugged in and started the music player (not Pandora) running in the background while the GPS was displaying on the screen. I also had the bluetooth synced to the car. To my surprise, the battery started to drain. It was pretty slow but after about an hour around 5-10% of the battery drained even while plugged in. Do you think it is my after market car charger from monoprice (For only $1.46 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Motorola V8, V9 Series Car Charger for RAZR2 | Motorola It has been working great in the car for about 2 weeks with Pandora playing and bluetooth.
Anyone else experiencing battery drain while plugged in the car using GPS? I think I read someone having a similar situation but with the Verizon charger. I am also using the stock battery. If not, please let me know which car charger you are using with a link if possible. I can't continue using this one if there is one out there that will keep me charged in the car.

Upon receiving my device yesterday. I let it charge to full then proceeded to play with it, while still on the charger. Today I had to run some errands however I decided to take the portable charger with me. within 90 minutes i was down to 1 green bar..WTF,
I went to a local Verizon store and very nicely and jokingly ask for the expert on the android OS. I ran into a previous blackberry and current droid user. I explained that i know there are things running in the background (services, and apps that I don't need). But i don't want to stop the necessary services that HTC and android OS needs to remain running.
I showed him, I stopped Gtalk and maybe one other services. I then downloaded Advanced Task Killer. I saw 15 apps running in the background..DAMNM!!!. I closed all of them , the phone will open what it need or what you use. After that , I more than double the use of the batteries. I love the phone , but I really feel alot better about the better drain. I hope this helps. I am now using live wall paper, playing with it alot more

Does anyone else have problems with major battery drain with navagation running on leaked Froyo ROM? I've tried several different roms with the same results. The drain is so extreme that the battery will even drain with the charger hooked up.

Little background: Before updating to 2.1 the battery would usually last about a day or a day and a half with moderate use(phone, texting, and social websites).I updated to 2.2 and battery drained very fast; so I hard reset and disabled Wi-Fi which helped, but still drained within a day with less than my average use(if I forgot to plug in the charger, it would be dead in the morning).I've since rooted and switched to Virtuous 2.7 with the custom kernel; which seemed to help out(with my "2.2" usage the battery life was about 16-20hrs...Wi-Fi disabled, now it's around 20-24hrs).What I noticed with the 2.2 update is "irregular" battery drainage. It would go to down to about 70%-80% fairly quick, but drain much more slowly down to about 40%, and then drain quickly to about 15%.Just a while ago, I unplugged the phone from the charger(It had finished charging earlier and I unplugged and plugged the charger again to make sure it's "topped off"), and drops to 98% in about a minute(zero use).I fire up the youtube app and watch Katy Perry's Teenage Dream(I don't like her singing but hey, it's a catchy song), and by the end of the song it's at 89% battery life. Anyone know what's causing this or know if this is normal?

How much do Live Wallpapers drain your battery on the Incredible? I used to have one, but I heard it drains your battery a lot, so I got rid of it. But now, I saw that cool Pixel Zombies Live Wallpaper, and decided to reconsider. Has anyone had any experiences or done any tests regarding Live Wallpapers and battery drainage?

This has probably already been discussed, but I couldn't find anything. Do we need to periodically drain the battery completely to maintain it, or is it alright to charge it every chance I get?

I know the WiFi uses less battery than the 3G. My question is should I leave the WiFi on all the time if I only have WiFi at home? Will it be actively searching for a WiFi signal when I am out of range of my home network and drain more battery? I have the Network notification unchecked in the WiFi settings if that helps at all. Basically I just want to know if I should turn WiFi off when I leave my house.

About a week ago, at random times, my Incredible will become "Incredibly" hot in my pocket, and the battery begins to drain at a rapid rate (from nearly 90%+ to <20% in an hour). This seems to be accompanied by an icon resembling a "refresh" symbol at the top of the screen (a circle consisting of two arrows).I can't determine any common denominator as to when this takes place, it seems pretty random.I added Google voice and Shazam to my phone just prior to this problem beginning, but have noticed no usage relation. Please feel free to direct me to another thread / lock if this has already been discussed.

Just installed SkyRaider 2.5.2 yesterday and radio 2.15. Using Launcher Pro+ and updated the notification bar to have the circle indicator. The charge took almost five hours. (Which I see is a common thing). However, when I unplugged my phone from charging this morning (9+ Hour charge) the battery went from 100% to 93% in about five minutes. It seems like I am losing 1% every minute or so until I reach 93%. Then it kind of stays steady. CPU clock is running constantly at 600 MHz+.

Upon starting up my phone was locked in awake status and I couldn't figure out why.
So against my will, I've downloaded ATK.
I noticed that upon killing ANY application that was loaded by the system at start up (besides ATK) would allow the phone to sleep.
So FM Radio, Footprints, Docs to Go....
Killing just one of those or I imagine just about anything else that loaded from the start, stopped my wakelock.
Also I noticed by putting the phone into airplane mode, and then taking it out, seemed to work as well.

Has anyone noticed extremely fast battery drain while browsing the internet? I can use Facebook, play games, look at wikidroid, etc. and battery life seems "normal" but while using the browser it will use 10 percent in 10 minutes. I have timed it, I was at 60 percent, browsed the forums here for 10 minutes and was at 51 percent afterwards. Is this normal?
I am rooted and have 2.2, I have tried the stock browser and Dolphin HD and both do the same thing.

Many of us have experienced some battery life fall out since the last update. I mentioned this in the battery life thread but I thought it deserved it own topic. I have an app that I downloaded called battery status. it has a battery history. and it says time without sleeping 7h 10m 25s ago. Thats exactally when I unplugged my phone. This explains why I am seeing 2-3% per hour loss while not using the phone and while in airplane mode. Before the update I could keep the phone in airplane mode, not usre it, and leave work with over 94% battery life. So this proves that somehow the phone is not going into sleep mode... I can guarantee that everyone else in that is experiencing battery drain since the sept 16th update is due to this reason. The question is... why the hell is this happening and why won't the phone go into sleep mode?

Rooted Droid 1, running LFY 1.9 with it's 1ghz kernel, SPRecovery. Had a weird issue recently; the phone displayed that my battery life was at 40%, then probably ~30 minutes later it was down to 20%. I wasn't using it during that time, I just unlocked the screen to check something. Anyway, I opened my browser and within a minute or two I got the "15% battery life remaining" message, prompting me to connect my charger. I decided I would allow the phone to just die and shut itself down. So I waited ~45 minutes and it went down to 10%, then almost immediately to 5%. I turned on the GPS just to make it drain faster... I watched a one-hour television show and when it was over, I glanced over to the phone to see if it had died - nope, still on. I turned the LED light on, leaving the GPS running for ~25 minutes and it finally powered down. Then I plugged it in to charge and left the room. Came back in about 2.5 hours later and picked up the phone - it was very hot. Unlocked the screen and checked SetCPU and it was running ~135?F but it immediately started cooling down. It was fully charged, however so I unplugged it. I went to bed shortly thereafter and the battery life displayed 90% as I set the alarm to wake me up the next morning. I happened to wake up shortly before the alarm was set to go off and I picked up the phone to disable the alarm and noticed the red 'charge me' light blinking - unlocked the screen to see 5% and just then it powered itself down.
TL;DR -- Phone only got hot that one time, phone hasn't gone dead in stand-by mode again like it did that night. Battery drains at a seemingly normal rate based on my regular use from 100% down to 40%, then it rapidly drains after that, always skipping 30% and when it gets down to 5% it stays alive for quite a long time under heavy load. Is there a way to 'teach' the phone how to check and calculate actual and remaining battery % and to display it correctly? Is it kernel-related? I heard somewhere about doing a 'battery wipe' but I am unsure what that entails and searches are proving fruitless for me so far.

Does anyone else notice this issue on the Dinc? I'm on to my second Dinc and it happens to that one as well: Once the battery gets in the "red" (i think 10% or 15%) it doesn't start charging at all unless it's been plugged in for 20 - 30 minutes. Regularly if you charge your battery (from the non-red level) you see the little lightning bolt appear and then you see the progress bar go higher and higher and reset and go higher, higher, etc. When the phone is in red status, you just see the lightening bolt and no progress is made. I tested this by leaving it plugged in for 10 - 15 minutes and unplugged it and it did not move up 1 percentage point. After 20 - 30 minutes suddenly you see the progress bar move. This really sucks because once your phone is in red, it takes a while before it starts charging. I brought my phone to Verizon, had it swapped out and my "new" (refurbed) phone does the same thing. Searched the forums and checked out google and found tons of battery issues, but nothing like this. Anyone else experiencing this?

Does anyone else's battery go as such - full for a bit, then nothing but the nipple gone for half the day, then suddenly what looks like half left out of no where? No matter how much I use my phone. Like I guess I am looking for an "hour-glass" effect here, it should slowly drain until it's empty. I have never seen my battery icon look 3/4 of the way full, it just skips right over that look on my phone.

This was brought up a lot when the Inc was just released. Everyone pretty much said that we had to wait until we were rooted. But has anyone found a way to add the battery percentage on the stock battery icon at the top? I hate having to install an app and have another battery icon in the notification bar with this.
