Samsung Epic 4G :: Battery Won't Go Into Sleep Mode (battery Drain Related)
Sep 24, 2010
Many of us have experienced some battery life fall out since the last update. I mentioned this in the battery life thread but I thought it deserved it own topic. I have an app that I downloaded called battery status. it has a battery history. and it says time without sleeping 7h 10m 25s ago. Thats exactally when I unplugged my phone. This explains why I am seeing 2-3% per hour loss while not using the phone and while in airplane mode. Before the update I could keep the phone in airplane mode, not usre it, and leave work with over 94% battery life. So this proves that somehow the phone is not going into sleep mode... I can guarantee that everyone else in that is experiencing battery drain since the sept 16th update is due to this reason. The question is... why the hell is this happening and why won't the phone go into sleep mode?

Last two days my battery has been draining like crazy and my phone won't go into sleep mode. I charge before I go to sleep and take it off when it's done and it will die before I wake up in about 8 hours .
Use to be at like 97 or 95 when I get up
I've gotten pretty good at managing my battery life , I use superpower and juiceplotter to monitor it .normally I waist less than 1% an hour when not in use and the phone is asleep
I've deleted every app I've installed since 1 day before this started. Only thing unusual I see in my logs is this message (Adding Alarm{464294e8 type 2 com.android.phone })
And this
Alarm triggering: Alarm{46354990 type 2 com.google.android.location} Adding Alarm{465bbb80 type 2 com.google.android.location }non stop repeatedly every second when phone is not in use.

Has anyone noticed an increase in battey drain while using the Lookout Mobile Security app? I noticed my battery drain was a little higher than usual today. I also have an app called battery indicator installed and was wondering if those apps cause higher battery drain also?

What is your take on the WiFi sleep policy. I do like the fact that Wi-Fi can remain on all the time, but will it be a drain on my battery? Is it better to keep the Wi-Fi to sleep on screen shut off? I am near a Wi-Fi connection for most of the day and always at home.

my Samsung s2 on jelly bean 4.1.2 drains battery alot while even in off mode not only that, whenever I press the switch off key the phone won't give me various options of restart, flight mode , sound mode and the likes, the phone will just go into off mode directly.

So I checked my battery usage and the display used up 74% of the battery's drainage. I'm not sure if my wallpaper caused this or my extensive use of the browser... I'm using city at night live wallpaper with zeam launcher.

I've been getting pretty good battery life (about 14-16 hours on average) when I use the airplane mode trick and kill the Media Hub service. However, my phone has not been able to sleep since the past 2 days and the battery is draining quickly.
The up time indicates that the phone cannot go to sleep. I'm just surprised because I haven't changed any of my phone settings so I don't know why this is happening. I uninstalled the last app that I downloaded and that didn't help.
Should I try doing a hard reset? Are there any apps that will specifically tell me what is keeping the phone awake?

I've had this phone since Tuesday and it's not made it from morning to night one time. I am using it, yes, but I thought that was the point. My usual routine is wake up, check the twitter/facebook feeds, log in and check email, browse a few web pages, and get moving. today, i did all of that and took a walk and listened to a cd for an hour on the doubletwist player. i took a single photo. and made one very short phone call. it is nearly dead. it's been off the hook since 830 and it's only 3. I could do all this minus the music playing part on my blackberry, which was ancient 8830 and i would still have juice by midnight tonight. and it should be noted, blackberry constantly pushed my email--i have k9 set to manual, as i do with the facebook and twitter/social media widget. so that instantaneous access that's supposed to be so useful and exciting--i don't have it.
i've done all the usuals, turned off the bluetooth, the wifi radio, the 4g radio (the whole point of the damn phone), lowered screen brightness to the very lowest number, making it totally useless in bright daylight and i mean completely useless-can't see to answer a damn call), i have the screen lock to 15 seconds. i have the autosyncing off, i have the whole phone crippled, and it's about to die. does anyone have any suggestions? i was using launcher pro, but want to go back to the standard touchwiz--only bummer is i can't swap out the messaging icon for handcent which i installed over the regular msging app--because ppl said it uses less battery drain-- but not sure how to disable the old one. i am using live wallpapers, but again, how much of a drain can they really be overall? i turned off the animations, is this a lemon? will rooting make it better? will the new upcoming os make it better? or is 6 hours of usage all i can expect? srsly, i would like to know, because if that's the case, i will go back to the blackberry. i don't care how fancy the phone is, if you can't use all the fun things without it dying, then what's the point?

I'm having problem with my Nexus 7. I have Android 4.2.1 on it. I've been using it for about a week now and every night i would turn it off, but in the last few nights, i decided to leave it on sleep mode to see how the battery life was.
On the google site, it says that the Nexus 7 should have 300 hours of standby. Is that the same as 300 hours of sleep? Because when I left my Nexus 7 on overnight, it drained from 55% to 33% in about 8 hours. That doesnt seem like 300 hours to me.
Also, I've tested it again, started at 100%, no wifi, no gps, no apps running in background, no syncing, in sleep mode, and it's draining at about 2% and hour. I've read on this forum that people have been getting like 2% every 8 hours on sleep, or even overnight. I've never used 4.1.1 so I dont have anything to compare it too. Does the 300 hour standby time mean powered off Nexus?

I'm really not "using" my Android S3 phone all day long, it gets frustrating when the bettery runs at 30% at 2pm, without any real use.
So the concept would be:
1) either a "ROM" of Android, which would be seriously minimal - like the device is not a smartphone - so only wake up on incoming call or text message
2) or an app, which does the same thing - suspends the phone completely, and wakes it up only on the incoming call or text message
I was just curious - does something like this exist? I don't care about apps, notifications, wifi or sync, I was thinking more along the lines of would it be possible to use your smartphone like a typical "cell phone", and when you need other apps or full features (GPS navigation with maps, or Shazam, or whatever it is you need) - you just "reboot" or do a quick switch to "full Android" mode, and use those features.
I feel that the battery life should be at least 5 days in that mode, with light usage?

Night before last, I charged the battery to 100% before I went to sleep. When I was going to sleep, I unplugged it. When I woke up 7 hours later, it had only dropped 30% to 70%. I did the software upgrade, and the battery jumped back up to 80% and lasted a Long time. Well, last night, I did the same thing, and when I woke up, my battery had dropped to 50%. The phone was supposedly sleeping this whole time! A few minutes on the browser to look up the issue brought me down to 40%.
All I installed yesterday was YellowPages, WhitePages, Flikie (then uninstalled it) and LauncherPro (could this be the culprit?). Before I went to bed though, I opened GMail, and it was having trouble connecting to the server and finally gave me a "retry" button because it couldn't connect. I never pressed it and just went to sleep. WiFi, GPS, everything was off, and the screen was set to lowest brightness (which doesn't even matter here.) Why it dropped so much?

I've had this phone since day one and I've ran the battery down almost every day and only had minimum "low battery" alerts but tonight I am getting a warning flash on the screen every 10 seconds saying "Low Battery: Please Charge Battery". Seriously, every 10 seconds and it started at 15% battery left.so I have at least 30-60 minutes of life left.

Rooted Droid 1, running LFY 1.9 with it's 1ghz kernel, SPRecovery. Had a weird issue recently; the phone displayed that my battery life was at 40%, then probably ~30 minutes later it was down to 20%. I wasn't using it during that time, I just unlocked the screen to check something. Anyway, I opened my browser and within a minute or two I got the "15% battery life remaining" message, prompting me to connect my charger. I decided I would allow the phone to just die and shut itself down. So I waited ~45 minutes and it went down to 10%, then almost immediately to 5%. I turned on the GPS just to make it drain faster... I watched a one-hour television show and when it was over, I glanced over to the phone to see if it had died - nope, still on. I turned the LED light on, leaving the GPS running for ~25 minutes and it finally powered down. Then I plugged it in to charge and left the room. Came back in about 2.5 hours later and picked up the phone - it was very hot. Unlocked the screen and checked SetCPU and it was running ~135?F but it immediately started cooling down. It was fully charged, however so I unplugged it. I went to bed shortly thereafter and the battery life displayed 90% as I set the alarm to wake me up the next morning. I happened to wake up shortly before the alarm was set to go off and I picked up the phone to disable the alarm and noticed the red 'charge me' light blinking - unlocked the screen to see 5% and just then it powered itself down.
TL;DR -- Phone only got hot that one time, phone hasn't gone dead in stand-by mode again like it did that night. Battery drains at a seemingly normal rate based on my regular use from 100% down to 40%, then it rapidly drains after that, always skipping 30% and when it gets down to 5% it stays alive for quite a long time under heavy load. Is there a way to 'teach' the phone how to check and calculate actual and remaining battery % and to display it correctly? Is it kernel-related? I heard somewhere about doing a 'battery wipe' but I am unsure what that entails and searches are proving fruitless for me so far.

I have a Motorola Milestone with Android 2.1. I'd like an app which shows the battery level in the notification bar. Nothing fancy, no estimation of remaining battery life nor fancy eye candy. If it can show a more precise reading than the Milestone built-in one, which only decreases in 10% intervals, fine, but only if this isn't a drain on the battery. I know there are several such apps, but which do you think is the best for my needs? There are so many it's hard to try them all and choose. I just want something basic and simple which doesn't drain the battery. I tried "battery indicator" and "battery status pro"; they both do what I need, but I'm afraid they might be an additional drain on the battery.

Is it me or anyone else experiencing the rapid drain of battery after the recent OTA update from T Mobile for the Vibrant. Prior to the OTA update, my Vibrant charge used to last 2-3 days of normal use before I had to charge. Now the battery life is considerably shortened and from 100%, it goes to below 20% in 12-15 hrs, most of it is idle time. My normal usage has not changed at all before and after the update but I am experiencing this rapid battery drain phenomenon on my Vibrant.

I dont have Avatar on here anymore so that is out.I turn everything on, brightness all the way, screen time out, syncing yadayadayada.Seems like playing Youtube videos does a good job of quickly draining it.

I've had my Fascinate for a week and am having some trouble - actually, lots of trouble with it. Any suggestions are welcome:
1. At night I close out all running programs except Zeam - which I'm using as a home replacement since LauncherPro doesn't play nicely with the Fascinate (too much lag). When I close down I have about 90% left on my battery, in the morning, the phone is dead, battery drained. I typically wake up to about 5 emails and no other notifications so it's not processing a ton of incoming data. I can plug it in at night, but the standby time is supposed to be 312 hours. Am I doing something wrong?
2. I can't get the camera app to close. I sometimes have to pull the battery in order to get it to close. I try hitting the home key and get no response, the back key yields nothing, and the power key won't turn it off. The camera remains functional as I try each of these keys. Even after hitting the power key I can immediately take a picture.
3. GPS won't get a lock. I know this is a known problem, but is it a problem on every device, or is it hit and miss?
I really love the Fascinate's form factor and gorgeous screen, but I'm struggling with whether or not to trade for the Droid X before my 30 days are up. The home key lights, lack of text editing assistance (via trackball, trackpad, or on screen software), lack of LED notification light, GPS issues, and lag are making me lean towards the X. I had an X when they first came out and I never quite got used to the size of it. It never felt comfortable in my hand. But the phone itself worked great. I'd prefer not to have to root my phone to get it to work properly.

So I was reading forums on how to better my Vibrant (hence so many posts by me in the last few days, ). I came across this somewhere online last night and again today on forum.xda-developers.com
Before I apply this on my Vibrant (I'm on page 6 reading user posts) I wanted to know if it's a good idea to leave GPS on at all times?
Does it drain the battery?
Does some other apps post your location on the web (like how facebook 'places' is starting to do now)?

I went to bed at 1am and woke up at 10:20am. My battery was at 65% before bed and 44% when I woke up.
I killed all tasks with advanced task killer as I do throughout the day as well. I don't use the email program on my phone nor do I get any notifications for any other programs. My Wi-Fi sleep policy is set to never because I have Wi-Fi at home. Brightness is at a low setting too. So, any ideas what would be draining my battery during the overnight when I'm not using my phone? I don't have problems during the day when I use it.

So I have had my phone since before launch and I have noticed the battery drain as others have but here is my question. Do you think it is the battery or the phone?
If I can go to the store and just get a new battery that would be nice because I have rooted and customized and downloaded apps and if it is the battery that is causing the problem it would be so much more convenient to get a new battery.

I'm having this issue with my tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1). During night when I sleep sometimes it drains about 30% of my battery. Now, I noticed that in the up and download icon the upload icon is almost ALWAYS on. Meaning that it is uploading something that I did not gave any permissions for, which is rather annoying. The wifi isn't working good as well, as in not receiving messages or able to view websites, it used to work fine tho.. These kinda things are the reason why I hate Android an regret buying 2 tablets and a phone of it. Anyways before y'all mention, this is what I've done so far:
-I'm NOT running any apps on the background.
-There's no facebook or any social media apps. Just Whatsapp. (those are the only allowed for background purposes).
-I've reset the router.
-I've rebooted the Android device.
The device is NOT rooted or anything and is barely 6 months old. Additionally, I DON'T have this uploading or wifi problem with my iPad, iPhone or BlackBerry's. My other Android tablet has wifi issues as well. Also Android seems so slow and buggy..? Compared to my iPad, or Ancient BlackBerry for that matter.

I have been searching and just can't find a way to show the amount of current draw/charge on the battery (in milliamp hours). On windows mobile we could see this and in light of the Moment's battery issues it would be a great way to see what is really going on.

I've notice over the last 3 days that I seem to be having some battery issues post update. I've got a V3 phone purchased on launch day. I've never had battery issues, usually get around 14-16 hours per charge before the update. After last weeks update it seems that my battery life has gone downhill to the point where i'm lucky if I get 10 hours.
I notice that if i look at my usage using #*#*4636*#*# that it shows the the system running constantly and the time spent without sleeping is a very high percentage. I've also notice that my wifi on and wifi running percentages are the same. It seems when i leave wifi on (which i have for the most part since i got the phone) it's always connected and killing my battery. What could have happened after the update to cause this? I know the OTA was supposed to fix the facebook sync issue, but i tried doing that fix any way.
