Jul 28, 2010Is anyone else having problems with adfree android after the 2.2 install?

View 5 Repliesi take no credit for this, just found it over on XDA. Here's how to get this working
1. Search for Adfree Android on the market
2. Install and run
3. allow it to download and install new hosts file, it will copy it to your sdcard and try to replace /system/etc/hosts but fail (it should reboot the phone shortly)
3a. Phone may reboot, this is fine, don't worry. if it doesn't reboot, check your SD card for a file simply named "hosts". if it's there, then continue on.
4. Power off the phone and hold Volume Down and power.
5. Use volume down to select recovery
6. In clockwork recovery volume down to "partitions menu" and hit the track pad to select
7. Select "mount /system", "mount /sdcard" and "mount /data"
8. Plug in your usb cord and open a command line on your pc
9. enter adb shell and type: cp /sdcard/hosts /data/data/hosts (This copies the AdFree hosts file from the SD Card to the /data partition, where it can be edited by AdFree)
10. mv /system/etc/hosts /system/etc/hosts.bak (This renames the current hosts file, rather than deleting it, should you ever want to remove AdFree and return to the original hosts file)
11. ln -s /data/data/hosts /system/etc/hosts (This creates a symbolic link, which allows AdFree to edit the hosts file stored in /data while allowing the OS to use the file as if it were stored in /system. You won't need to reboot into recovery each time you want to update the hosts file!)
12. Reboot and enjoy.
EDIT: updated with new method. just did this myself and it works great. it updates on it's own now.
ANOTHER EDIT: I just had a guy PM me asking "what if the phone doesn't reboot on step 3?"
it may or may not reboot. bottom line is that we want the "hosts" file to get downloaded from Adfree onto our SD card. so if the phone doesn't do an instant reboot when getting the hosts, just check your SD card for a file named "hosts". if it is there, then you are good to continue on and follow the rest of the steps. let me know if you need any further help. i did it the old way about a week or so ago, and then did it the new way last night so that i could have Adfree automatically update the hosts file on its own. the new method does work flawlessly.
I wiped my phone and installed Darchdroid 2.8 this morning. Now when I try to update Adfree Android's hosts, it gives me the following error: "Failed to remount system partition read-write" It worked on 2.8 before the wipe & flash.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI disabled the flash player that came installed and used the Nexus_One_Fix that worked on the 8/1 leak but so far it won't work in the Hulu app now. I just get a picture of a box with a ? mark inside.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI was on 2.1 stock, did the leaked ota and then the 2.2 leak. Everything is working great but I've noticed vibrate is not working for notifications. It seems to work for hepatic feedback and on calls BUT apps like gmail/messages/chompsms/others don't vibrate at all even if it's enabled. What the hell do I do? Any ideas?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway of getting HTC's Messages apk (2.1) working on the newly released Froyo OTA leak? I really dislike the new design and I've tried pushing with adb and using root explorer but once you reboot on Froyo the Messages icon just disappears. Thanks, much appreciated.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was following the directions for getting Adfree to work here, but I am having some problems. After I download and install hosts from the program, there is no "hosts" folder in my SD card.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOkay so a month or so ago I rooted with Unrevoked and put on the 2.2 leak that was available at the time. I doubt I'll get an OTA for the official 2.2 but I saw the update.zip was made available. Is there anyway to put this on my phone? I'm assuming I'll have to downgrade to stock RUU first and then I'll lose root and lose all my backup info. Basically I want the new 2.2 but I don't want to lose my data. Is this possible yet and if so how do you do it? There are a gazillion threads about similar issues but I haven't seen one that specifically talks about this yet, although it's probably in here somewhere.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently running the leaked version of 2.1 from way back.I am now trying to install 2.1 v3.I have followed all the instructions, but when I turn my phone of, the hold vol down and end keys, nothing happens. It begins unzip, then stops, and just sits on the menu screen.Any ideas?

View 7 Replies View RelatedNew to the whole rooting thing...
I was able to (i think) root w unrevoked3 and then unrevoked forever. I then installed the leaked 2.2. If I remember correctly, i had to root again after the leak.
Now, when I go to try to remove bloatware, by booting into clockwork and using adb, it wont let me in clockwork mod. I get the battery symbol thing with the exclamation mark.
I have S-off.
Should I re-root, is that the problem? What else could it be?
I also installed ROM manager, and it states that superuser was not found at "/system/xbin/su".
Should I assume that the update killed my root and I need to do it again?
So I have the Froyo Leak (ROM, no radio) based off of the official Froyo leak (I have the 2.05 radio). I want to unroot and go back to the stock 2.1 so that I can upgrade to the official 2.2 OTA from Verizon (then I'll re-root, that's another story though).
ROM I currently have: [ROM] 8/26 Leak Lite w/ Sense - xda-developers
The reason why I'm creating this thread is because the video from the first post at the bottom about unrooting from leaked 2.2, Is talking about downgrading from a different leaked ROM, completely different software # than I have, and I want to make sure I do this the right way.
[VIDEO] HowTo UnRoot Incredible by downgrading
Anyone else getting a FC all the time with the stock browser? Every other time I use it, it either locks up with 90% in the status bar or just FC's without warning. Would really like to get this fixed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhy Adao File Managers Adds Aren't getting Blocked through the Adfree App? It's Strange because All my other Apps that have Adds Are being Blocked?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI used AdFree on my Incredible. When I would run Wireless Tether, it would also block ads on my PC. I never even got a single YouTube, Pandora, or Hulu ad. I don't know exactly how it was done; it just worked.
Now, I'm on a rooted Rezound using AdAway. It blocks ads on my device, but not on my PC when tethered as AdFree did on my Incredible. I tested by accessing one of the blocked URLs in the hosts file...it was blocked on my device, not on my PC.
I thought maybe the webserver needed to be enabled, but no, that wasn't it. I've tried with both AdFree and AdAway, cleared DNS cache, etc. Is there some setting I'm missing in either Wireless Tether or AdAway? I know it's possible somehow; I've changed nothing on my PC and it worked perfectly on my Incredible.
When I first boot up the phone and check the memory (after shutting down all the apps I don't want running) I notice my phone has about 220-250 MB free after leaving the phone on for about 2-3 hours, with no activity on my part, that number gets smaller and smaller. I just rebooted my phone again because it was down to 125 MB free with no applications running.
Also, "Android System" is consuming 65% of my battery life. I realize that number is inaccurate after a fresh reboot so I played with the phone for a good 4 hours running apps and such, so that I could get a good test of how much the OS is eating up in comparison to other apps. 65% is a bit much no?
so I took the leap the same night the froyo leak was out. I was on rooted 2.1 and followed the steps of intalling the ota and then re-rooted and installed the leaked froyo.I tried most of the fixes, but would rather wait for the "real" Froyo OTA. My question is simple, do I have to remove the effects of the OTA (downgrade the hboot) before I re-flash to a stock 2.1 or will the 2.1 reflash take care of that?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, just curious for those who have installed this leak, what kind of scores are you seeing? After all my stuff was restored (i did a clean and wipe), I am ending up with a linpack of 34 (i think i am seeing more people closer to 38) and quadrant at 1156 (and i see people up at 1400+)...
What is everyone else getting? And keep the spam out of this one.
How do I go from 2.1 ver 1 to 2.1 v3 leak on eris?? If this is already stated somewhere, I couldnt find it. If you know, or can reply with a link for me,
View 20 Replies View RelatedI wanted to compare the results of the two different methods of installing this update.I wiped everything by installing the leaked RUU 2 days ago and I must say my phone's performance has significantly improved. My quadrant score went from 525 (stock) to 1365 (after installing the leaked Froyo) neither score was rooted.Scrolling seems much faster and the optical pad is a lot smoother.I'm hearing some people who installed the OTA saying that their phone has been laggy and hangs when scrolling.I've been running the official Froyo for the past 2 days and haven't experienced this. Can we get some feedback from some people who have installed the RUU vs OTA.
View 49 Replies View RelatedI have not tried it yet, but thinking of going for it, rather than getting rid of the bloat through terminal commands. ADDED: Please read the top of the thread in the link. You will need a 2.X radio and s-off through unprovoked forever edit: new location for it: ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=766223. Then again, I may wait for adrynalyne to add usb tether and other goodies.

Today I rooted my DInc with Unrevoked Forever, then I Flashed the 8/1 Froyo Leak but I did not flash the Radio.
My Software Info is:
Android 2.2
BaseBand - 1.00.03.04.06
Kernel - 2.6.32.15 - g5e1ad8b htc-kernel@and 18-2 #1
PRI Version - 1.28.002
So far the phone works I have Market 2.2 etc, but I tested Hulu and found out that my "handset" doesn't work with this format. I'm not sure how to check for Flash 10.1 but some video worked on the Adobe flash player site.
I updated to the newest leak version last night successfully, and it's the first time I've rooted. It's kind of annoying how I lost all my ringtones and alerts for texts and stuff. The only option is 'Default Verizon' which annoys the hell out of me. I'd rather not have to download an app to get a simple ringtone for texts and google talk and phone calls. Any way to just get the regular list back that came with the phone?
View 10 Replies View RelatedAny suggestions on how to get it to work? it used to before i switched to the newest leaked 2.2 rom (8/26 or 27 i think) with the bloatware already uninstalled.
View 25 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my Incredible and installed the leaked 2.2 update. Since then, occasionally when I go from one app and then click the home button, it flashes and then shows the HTC white screen and then it takes time to load all my home screens back up. It seems to me like HTC Sense is rebooting.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone recently and installed the leaked 2.2 update.I ran Unrevoked as well as Unrevoked Forever, so I have S-OFF on my phone.I want to now put the official 2.2 release on my phone, while of course keeping my root.It would be best to keep my data on there, but if I have to run a Titanium backup and restore once it's installed, that's okay too.I just need to know the process to do this and where to get the update.I am running the leaked 2.2 Froyo update from May and I have the 2.05.00.06.11 radio.
View 12 Replies View RelatedCan anyone please help me port the Hibernate feature that is in the new SkyRaider 3.3 ROM, and for the Desire. I am very interested in getting this feature on either RMK's new stock leak ROM or the 2.2 OTA stock ROM. Yes I know about the 3-1 reboot option along with hot boot. but im really interested in porting this over to a stock ROM for us. I wish I had the know how and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me out with this.
