Nov 12, 2009Is there a way to clear the words that have been saved? it saved alot of words that dont make since, and now it doesnt predict words as good as when i first got it.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Text Prediction
Jul 20, 2010I recently bought a Hero to replace my BlackBerry Curve and it's a big improvement in most ways. I very much enjoy this device. One of the ways it's not an improvement, however, is this text prediction/replacement thing. I'm hoping I'm just using it wrong.
The Curve had a bunch of words set up (and the user could add more very easily if desired) such that typing "dont" followed by a space automatically changed it to "don't ". Very handy.
With the Hero's prediction turned on, "don't" is an option, but one of a few, so I have to actually tap it to replace what I typed, and then add a space afterwards. It's only a couple taps, I realize, but it happens all the time, and I thought the prediction was supposed to save taps and make things easier, and this "dictionary" the Hero adds to seems virtually useless.
I've also found that I'll type something and neither accept nor deny a suggested replacement, and it'll replace what I typed, sometimes with a rediculous word that even changed the first letter I typed! Very frustrating.
For now I've turned off the prediction option, but I like to type "properly" with punctuation and proper spelling, and adding apostrophes and other things isn't a quick process with this keyboard.
HTC Desire :: OF Or IF Text Prediction
Aug 5, 2010I've found a strange one that seems to affect both mine and my brother's HTC desires. When typing a text or e-mail if I want to put the word "if" in the middle of a sentence it will auto correct to "of". "If" at the beginning of a sentence works fine.
As a result there are a lot of texts and e-mails that go out with bizarre "of"s instead of "if"s.
I've checked the user dictionary for any matching entries and found nothing odd.
Sprint HTC Hero :: Word Prediction Not In Browser
Jan 4, 2010Is word prediction suppose to work everytime yo use the keyboard? Seems like mine only works with some of the applications. For example I do not get word prediciton when I enter text on the browser but it does work when i use the Handcent SMS application.

Oct 27, 2010Is there a hotkey for the evo to enter the word easier then having to click the green box with the word in it? I think it takes a bit more time to lift your finger and click the green box then go back down to the keyboard again to type. Or is there a hotkey that I should be using to do this?

Jun 2, 2010In messages (HTC Desire), when I type 'if', it automatically suggests 'of'. I don't want to turn off the word predictions because generally I find them very useful but I have no idea why it keeps wanting to change 'if' to 'of'; obviously with 'if' being such a common word, it's a real hassle to keep changing it. I wonder if when I got the phone I typed 'if' and meant 'of', so changed it, but now I can't see how to get it back. Does anyone have any ideas how I can reset the prediction?

Jan 6, 2010Anyone have a problem with prediction getting stuck in web browsers (default Browser and Dolphin)? When I try to enter a URL like "www.youtube.com" into the search/go form, the prediction will pop up and stop at "www." or sometimes "www.y" with no option for me to use the URL that I typed. So if I hit the Go button, I end up Google searching "www." since "www." isn't a valid URL.

Dec 1, 2009what exactly does the Spell Correction feature do? I realized today that I had it disabled all this time. I tried typing with Spell Correction enabled but haven't noticed any difference. The user manual explains the settings like this:
Prediction Select to enable the word prediction feature which provides a list of possible words that reflect the characters of the keys you have tapped as well as characters of nearby keys.
Spell correction Select to correct typographical errors by selecting from a list of possible words that reflect the characters of the keys you have tapped as well as characters
of nearby keys. ...but the keyboard seems to me to function exactly the same with or without spell correction enabled.

Jul 11, 2010The prediction mode on the keyboard only seems to work in certain apps. It's definitely switched on and works fine when writing a text message or email, however it doesn't work when in the internet browser (e.g. when using google search) or when typing in the search box in the Android Market.
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? It's really annoying! I have the latest firmware and haven't modified it, etc.

Nov 23, 2010At some point early on in my SF ownership, I accidentally pushed something that gave me a keyboard and word prediction that I like SO MUCH more than the little black box word prediction with Swype. I didn't download a 3rd party keyboard or anything. Problem is, I've somehow hit something again that has brought the black box popup word prediction and a different keyboard back. I've messed with every combination I can think of in Language and Keyboard, but can't seem to get the other keyboard back.
The keyboard I currently have is the one that has the letters and symbols on the same key. The one I like has just the letters on the keys and a symbol button to push to get just the symbols. The word recognition I want has a bar right about where you type that gives you suggestions and you can touch the suggestion you want and it will insert (it has the most likely suggestion in red, I think).
I make so many more typing mistakes with the black box prediction/current keyboard. Can someone tell me how to get the other way back?

Dec 17, 2009I'm on the 3 UK network and have the 1gb data add on.k Everything works fine except I get txt messages saying my data allowance has been used when according to the app I'm using to track my data usage it says I still have over 200mb left....I checked with 3 and they confirmed that I'm unable to use more data than my allowance, so protecting me from extra costs. But they were unable to say if they send the warning txt early... at 80% usage for example..

I'm presuming that its not that I have 150 messages (as a dialogue) saved on the phone, as my old bog standard basic Nokia smartphone at present has over 2000 messages saved. Oct 27, 2009This isn't on par with the sidekick loss of data, but unknowingly missing text messages (across the board it seems) and unknowingly missing voicemails (less common, but still prevalent it seems) is a BIG DEAL. Even after I presumably fixed both text and voicemail issues, tested to confirm on both, I was surprised to find a few hours later that neither were working again! And I've not come close to toughing the 40MB limit Sprint is mentioning. I've had 100MB free on my phone the whole time. That's just unacceptable and means to me that some element of this product was released irresponsibly into the free market before it was ready. If there are fatal flaws associated with the use of task killers, or other 3rd party apps, this needs to be understood and communicated to the consumer.
As much as I LOVE Sense UI and the Hero in general, I'm porting back to my month-to-month Verizon plan to wait out the storm. Losing basic, critical phone functionality is NOT an option for me.
That's a real bummer for me because the Hero is *easily* my favorite phone on the market. Sense UI is forward looking, and I believe a bar-raiser for other companies, Apple included. But as much as I hate to give it up, it does sort of feel good to be back on the sidelines again, free to jump on the Passion (Dragon) or the like in the near future.

Was hoping to dictate texts and email, but I don't see the mic symbol on my input keyboard, and a cursory search of google nets results that point toward menu options that don't exist on my hero...

Sep 21, 2009I was texting a friend today when an android pop up error message appeared saying that the program had to be closed down.
This has happened in the past. However, today it also deleted all of my text messages, something which has never happened before.
I upgraded to the latest htc stable build a few weeks ago and this has never happened before. Thankfully, I never had any important text messages to lose. Though I am concerned that this may happen in the future and I will lose some important information (e.g. a friends address, phone number of whatever).
About an hour or so later I made a call and it closed down with a similar error message. No contact details or anything like that have been list but again, I'm concerned that it happened at all.

Jan 6, 2010Im a pretty private guy and i hate when my girl reads my texts i send and recive. with old phones id just delete my messages. but with my hero i cant delete messages in chompSMS nor the normal messagner app. ill hold down my finger and press delete and it just doesnt delete anything and most of the time crashes my phone and i have to reset my phone. this is VERY annoying because when she grabs my phone i have to fight to get my phone back so she doesnt see any of my texts that i CANT delete !
