I just go hero and I went to the Pop3 setting and started to insert my microsoft pop3 account setting in the fields as prompted. The password was not correct so it would not pull in my emails.I can't seem to find out how to go back into my pop3 settings since the HTC Hero email application will not let me view my previous settings to make changes. There must be a way, I am just not seeing it.Please help me with the correct procedure. It tells me to select my email account from the drop down screen in my created email account, so, I select the email address that it shows that I created.

I wanted to set up my hero to get my mail from work and calender ect. We use outlook. The question I have is whats the difference between active exchange sync and just setting up outlook like you would set up yahoo, gmail ect... Sorry if this is a dumb question but I just never had to use exchange before so im very unfamiliar with it. What I have been doing is just syncing my phone via usb with my home outlook.

I finally got my work email sync'd on my Android phone (Outlook). However, all my annoying meetings from work are now popping up as "notifications" in my phone's status bar. I can't stand corporate meetings, which are a colossal waster of time, and i don't want to be reminded of all the meetings on my work schedule. I was able to successfully turn of the Outlook mail notifications on my phone (and I still get Gmail notifications, since they are two separate email systems, which is exactly what I want). How do I turn my "Outlook calendar reminders," but still be reminded of my Google Calendar reminders, which is my personal, and far more important, calendar?

I'm using HTC Sync to sync my Outlook contacts to my Hero... The contacts sync as expected but everytime I perform the sync the time on my Hero is set 30mins forward which would correspond with the time in the eastern states of Australia. I've checked the timezones on my PC & Hero and they are set correctly. I've scoured the net for fixes but haven't found a fix for this annoying issue. I did discover that in a previous version of HTC Sync you could set the timezone within HTC Sync during the installation if it detected a mismatch, but I wasn't presented with the option to set it to get it's time from the PC...

I've come to see the light and made the move last weekend away from windows mobile to the Hero...now I'm ready to embrace the cloud.I use Outlook at home which was straight forward to keep in sync on my windows mobile device.I'm keen to keep using Outlook so my goal is to sync my calendar, contacts and tasks with my google apps account which would then be accessible to the Hero. After countless hours research and testing I settled on the following setup:
- Home PC sync's outlook calendar to google calendar via googles calendar sync which is then linked to my Hero;
- Home PC sync's outlook contacts to my Hero via HTC Sync.
I haven't devised a method for tasks yet and as for notes I prefer to keep them in outlook only. This setup has its limitations as HTC Sync sets the contacts to type "phone" which means they don't get uploaded to google. Furthermore, I've discovered that Google in their wisdom automatically creates contacts on your behalf based on people you email and this feature to my knowledge cannot be deactivated...so I'm questioning the merrits of putting my contacts into google if I'm going to be bring down contacts I never created.I'm keen to hear from others who use outlook and no doubt have more andriod/google experience to get a feel for how they sync up.

When I create a contact on the Hero it is not uploaded to Outlook when I sync. Viewing the contact on the Hero it says contact type is Google while all Outlook contacts have a type of Phone. How do I create a contact of type Phone using the Hero? I have seen no option to choose this.

I'm using a Vanilla ROM at the moment and love the battery life/speed of the ROM. But since it does not run SenseUI I can't sync with Outlook using HTC Sync. Are there other apps on the Market that will do a similar job?

I am getting a Hero next week and want to do my research ahead of time - I have lots of notes in my Outlook application and need to know how to get them into my new Hero next week. is there a good application already on the Hero that I can sync to or export them to? If not, does anyone have any recommendations for a notepad/memo app that doesn't need the internet, that I can sync to my laptop from my droid, and if possible, have the ability to enter private notes?

I got HTC Sync set-up to sync up my outlook calendar and contacts. ran it through, and other than truncating address fields to 25 chars, it all worked fine. But then I ran it again, to cehck it was all ok giong forwards (ie expecting no updates), and it:Deleted 32 of my 200 contacts (seemingly at random) from Outlook - left them on the phone. If I manually replace them oon Outlook then duplicates are created on the phone on next sync. Altered 3 recurring appointments (birthdays, 3 out of about 40 in my calendar) in Outlook so that instead of running from midnight to midnight (ie all day events) they run from 23:00 to 23:00, and hence show up over two days. Claimed to have updated a handful more contacts, though I can't see what may have changed. how to avoid? Number 2 is particularly odd. I'm guessing it's something to do with daylight saving, but why only 3 of 40? I've checked the settings against other non-affected appointments, and can see no difference!

I'm using two different devices (iPhone and HTC) and I was able to sync contacts photos from the two devices without problem using Outlook...after I replaced Touch Pro, installed HTC Sync 2.0.18 and did my first sync... I noticed something weird...HTC Hero only synced contacts photos that were set by the HTC Touch Pro originally! and didn't sync any contact photo was set by the iPhone! sure thing the photos are working with Outlook without problem and I was able to sync them to the Touch Pro without a problem...

I just got my Hero. I used HTC sync to sync my calendar/contacts with outlook. Outlook has previously been synced with Gmail. Now I have a ton of duplicate contacts. Obviously I shouldn't have synced contacts from Outlook and just let them sync from Google. Is there any easy way to fix this and get rid of all the Outlook contacts?

I apologize in advance if this has been answered already but my search revealed nothing.
Question:
Does Microsoft Outlook need to be installed on a computer before that computer will recognize the phone so the SD can be mounted for file transfers back and forth?
I have tried to mount the SD on my wifes' HERO with no luck while its attached to her lappy. She does not have Outlook installed on that lappy. I do however on my pc and my pc recognizes the phone, allows me to Mount and Un-Mount the SD and transfer files.

Is there a better calendar that will sync with outlook? It's annoying that the calendar can't cope with categories and that I don't have the same functionality when inputting appointments that I do in outlook.
Is the same calendar that was on the TC touch available?

I got my hero about a week ago and since then I'm still trying to import my contacts from outlook, but no picture imported although in outlook they appear with picture. All my contacts with picture in outlook were backed up from my old iphone. I tried to synchronize my hero with those contacts, but no picture. After that i tried to export contacts from outlook in a *.vcf file, uploaded them into google contacts, but still no picture. Also another problem: i deleted all my contacts in google and then synchronized my phone with it, but instead of downloading them from the hero, it appears that google overwrites the phone contacts. Is there any way to overwrite google contacts with the phone ones? Or at least merge them?

I am a leader of 3 different organizations and have 3 different calendars in Outlook. Is there a way or an application to Sync multiple calendars to the Sprint HTC Hero calendar?

Has anyone tried using HTC Sync to synchronise Outlook Calendar and Contacts with the Hero on Vista (Ultimate)? I have had great problems getting the phone and PC/Laptop to recognise each other, despite turning off Firewall and Antivirus and allowing HTC Sync to run as Administrator. I have only got it to work once on my Laptop, despite uninstalling and reinstalling, and I only got it to work a second time on my PC after several reboots. I don't have problems synching other devices (Treo 650 and TomTom) so I don't think it is a hardware problem.
If you use Categories for Calendar entries in Outlook then watch out, as the Hero Calendar does not support them and deletes them all, which resulted (for me) with a lot of duplicate entries in Outlook. One-way syncs (PC -> Hero) might be the only solution if I want to keep Categories. Other than that, the phone is great. I am sure that the inevitable teething problems will be sorted out soon.

I'm a proud new owner of the HTC Hero, I have a very specific interest in getting my email 'just so' on my Hero, and I made it work great. I think others may be in this situation so I made some detailed instructions that I thought I'd share in case it helps some people.
First off this is for those who (but not limited to):
1) Use Microsoft Outlook POP3 Mail
2) Want to keep that as your main mail source, but want to receive duplicates on the phone.
3) Want to be able to reply to a message from your phone and have it appear as if you wrote it from your computer.
4) Receive it as fast as possible
5) Conserve battery life
6) Want to use the HTC Mail widget to preview your messages and have a mail envelope icon in your notification bar.
7) Filter spam and other unnecessary messages from getting to your phone
The best way to set up email on an android phone:
Benefits:
- Email pushed to you, so its recieved quicker and preserves phone battery life. I went from about 8 hour battery life to about 27 hours.
- Combines addresses into one neat mail location
- Lets you reply as if you're replying from any of those addresses
- Filters spam and unwanted messages from getting to your phone
- Many mail options in android by setting it up this way. Ability to flag messages, sort messages, etc.
- Lets you view and quickly flip through or delete messages in a widget.
- Eliminates the "on behalf of" statement when sending through gmail.
How to set up:
- get gmail account
- set up gmail account to receive your mail account(s)... as many accounts as you may have.
- set up filters to filter spam, and any regular messages you dont want forwarded to your phone
- set up outgoing smtp servers instead of using gmail's. I use authsmtp.com. they are good and cheap. This will let you send your messages as if they were from your Outlook account and not send it saying from <your gmail address> on behalf of <your address>
- If you have troubles sending, you might want to set your smtp server's option to send as SSL, and do the same in Gmail...then they should talk nicely.
You probably have a bunch of other settings you want to set between Gmail and your Outlook as well. For example, you want to set your Outlook to leave the messages on the server, and then probably delete them after 2 days (so they don't build up eating up hard drive space). Then in Gmail, make sure that that too does not delete the messages from the server, so that if Gmail checks it first, it leaves it there for your main Outlook account to still get. Gmail is very powerful, as is Outlook so go through your settings to make sure they are all set up the way you want. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things you need to do, so take this guide as a starting point.
On your phone...
Menu->Settings->Data Syncronization->Google
- have auto-sync turned off, & background data turned on (for other apps that likely need it)
- shut off gmail syncronization from the settings menu.
- set up microsoft exchange activesync with gmail:
the whole point of doing this instead of just using the gmail app is to do two things:
1) let us use HTC's nice mail widget to preview and flip through messages, and
2) to have an envelope indicating we have new mail up in the notification bar instead of an @ sign that the Gmail App shows.
Also, if you just set it up as POP3 mail (which you could do to achieve the same thing) the mail notifications will be much slower, and it will eat up your battery life. The Exchange ActiveSync will preserve battery life and push mail to you like the Gmail app does. So again the point here is so you can use the HTC Mail Widget (2 points above)
So to set up ActiveSync with Gmail:
email address (all lower case): user@gmail.com
server address (all lower case):m.google.com
domain:<leave blank>
username (all UPPER CASE): USER@GMAIL.COM
password:<your password>
- Probably do not sync your contacts, this can screw up what you already have.
- Schedule as items arrive.
Now you can add the HTC Mail widget to neatly view messages in a widget, and you'll have an envelope at the top when you get new mail instead of the gmail @ sign, save battery, filter out spam and other unnecessary messages from getting to your phone, and other reasons listed above.

I'm having a strange problem with a new HTC Hero: I've installed the driver (recognized correctly in device manager) on Windows XP and also the HTC Sync 2.0.4 without problems. However, when trying to synchronize with Outlook 2003, it works with my contacts, but then it stops and says the synchronization failed and no calender entries are copied.

Hero newbie here. I'm currently a Blackberry user (the Pearl, smallest BB made, had it for 2 years), and have decided I want a larger screen and better browsing capability. I use the Blackberry "BIS" service, which means that I don't have wireless sync w/my company's exchange server - I sync contacts/calendar/notes via bluetooth with Outlook on my PC, and get email OTA of course. So I've been thinking about the Blackberry Storm2 to get a larger screen, etc., but when I saw the news today that the Hero is coming to Verizon I did a double-take. I've done some research and the interface and user customization available on the Hero look just great, best I've seen to date.My biggest concern is how it will work for managing my Outlook email/contacts/calendar/notes, and multiple gmail accounts. So what I'm curious about...
1. I have four gmail email accounts - I assume I can set up all four on the Hero, correct? What is the max number of email accounts I can set up on the Hero?
2. I can not sync my Outlook calendar/contacts to Google due to company security issues, so I can't use the Hero's Google wireless sync capability. Will the Hero Sync app allow me to sync Contacts/Calendar/Notes from Outlook to the Hero via USB?
3. If I modify a contact, calendar event, or outlook note on the Hero will Hero Sync the modified back the update to Outlook?
4. If I receive an Outlook meeting invite on my BB, it automatically appears on my BB calendar, meeting reminders appear, etc. Does the Hero have the ability to automatically add new meetings to my Hero calendar when meeting invite emails arrive on the phone?
5. Any issues w/setting up a work email account (Exchange) on the Hero? (I do have IMAP access to my work email account.)
6. The BB provides an individual email folder for each account, as well as an aggregate email folder that displays all messages received from all email accounts in date order. Does the Hero also offer a way to view all emails received from all accounts in a single folder?

I've imported all the contacts from outlook to my mobile without any problem but when I open People they are divided in two alphabetically sorted lists: i have some contacts sorted from A to Z and then the remaining sorted as well from A to Z but this second batch has dividers between contacts starting with different letters. All my contacts are there but it's very annoying to have them divided in 2 lists, any idea how to organize them in a single list?Second problem is that I can't sync new entries in the mobile's calendar with outlook. HTC Sync doesn't see them at all. Any idea how to fis this as well?

I've got a Windows 7 laptop with Outlook 2010 beta on it. Loving 2010, but HTC Sync doesn't seem to want to work with it. I've asked HTC, and they say it don't work with 2010. If anybody knows a way of making it work with 2010. Alternatively, I'm considering buying Outlook 2007 to use instead. Does HTC Sync work with Outlook 2007? I want to sync contacts, calendars, and anything else it might sync!
