I'm having a strange problem with a new HTC Hero: I've installed the driver (recognized correctly in device manager) on Windows XP and also the HTC Sync 2.0.4 without problems. However, when trying to synchronize with Outlook 2003, it works with my contacts, but then it stops and says the synchronization failed and no calender entries are copied.

FYI for other users that are switching to a G1: Basically I am huge user of Outlook 2007 & the rest of the MS Office family. I have/had a T-Mobile Dash and I love it but its time to move on The 2 biggest deals breakers for me was no tethering (sp?) with my laptop and no sync for outlook (basically for calender as contacts get less updating and go directly on the phone) Tether- hopefully someone will make it work (come on, I got the internet on my Dash for 5.99 with just 2 proxy settings) Well back to the point
There are a couple of ways to get your contacts to your G1. I tried downloading the Wrike program and guess what, it does not work because I don't have Exchange Server 2007 yet maybe 90% of this site doesn't either I tried exporting my Outlook contacts into a CSV file then importing them into my Google contacts but some names did not come up properly, so that did not work.............
would you use outlook to sync your contacts and calendar? i never really liked this program, but if i must, i can... and also, when i synced contacts, i only received 8, and i have a lot more than that... is it just pulling it only from the phone or the sim card? why is it not moving all of them?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an HTC Incredible on Verison running Android 2.1. With the Blackberry (NOT Exchange), I was easily able to sync contacts, calendar, Tasks, and notes with my BB. I cannot seem to do this with the Incredible.
I actually found an HTC Sync program on my phone which I installed and was able to sync the calendar and contacts once, but I have been unable to do so again. I have not found any snyc for notes or tasks. This seems like such a standard need that I cannot understand why it is not a basic ability on this awesome phone.
Anyway, I need to be able to sync my contacts, calendar, tasks and notes AND I would like to be able to backup my phone to my PC.
Is there any simple way to Sync it with my Outlook contacts and calendar? Also, can I connect it to my PC and tranfers photos and music directly or do I need to use special programs? If I want to transfer PDF's or Office Documents can I do that as a drag and drop?

Has anyone else noticed that an Outlook contact that has a birthday or anniversary date stored within the details, when sync'd to the phone is imported with 1 or 2 days earlier? For example my parents anniversary is stored in Outlook as June 4, 19xx and Outlook adds this to my calendar automatically. After syncing with my Droid Eris the Eris calendar item shows June 3rd. Then when I sync again it shows up in the Outlook calendar on the 3rd and the 4th. This has been going on for quite a while maybe since my 1st sync.

I have tried it for a couple of days and it works great the best all round android phone explorer, it is free but has a donate option which to be fair.
The sony ericsson PC companion can only sync with its website and i don't want to put my contacts online. I tried this www.android-sync.com but it is at very early stage and does not work well. Heard of a companionlink.com but haven't tried it yet. Anyone tried? Any other good ones?

I've imported all the contacts from outlook to my mobile without any problem but when I open People they are divided in two alphabetically sorted lists: i have some contacts sorted from A to Z and then the remaining sorted as well from A to Z but this second batch has dividers between contacts starting with different letters.All my contacts are there but it's very annoying to have them divided in 2 lists, any idea how to organize them in a single list?Second problem is that I can't sync new entries in the mobile's calendar with outlook. HTC Sync doesn't see them at all. Any idea how to fis this as well?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHas anyone tried using HTC Sync to synchronise Outlook Calendar and Contacts with the Hero on Vista (Ultimate)? I have had great problems getting the phone and PC/Laptop to recognise each other, despite turning off Firewall and Antivirus and allowing HTC Sync to run as Administrator. I have only got it to work once on my Laptop, despite uninstalling and reinstalling, and I only got it to work a second time on my PC after several reboots. I don't have problems synching other devices (Treo 650 and TomTom) so I don't think it is a hardware problem.
If you use Categories for Calendar entries in Outlook then watch out, as the Hero Calendar does not support them and deletes them all, which resulted (for me) with a lot of duplicate entries in Outlook. One-way syncs (PC -> Hero) might be the only solution if I want to keep Categories. Other than that, the phone is great. I am sure that the inevitable teething problems will be sorted out soon.
I'm using HTC Sync to sync my Outlook contacts to my Hero... The contacts sync as expected but everytime I perform the sync the time on my Hero is set 30mins forward which would correspond with the time in the eastern states of Australia. I've checked the timezones on my PC & Hero and they are set correctly. I've scoured the net for fixes but haven't found a fix for this annoying issue. I did discover that in a previous version of HTC Sync you could set the timezone within HTC Sync during the installation if it detected a mismatch, but I wasn't presented with the option to set it to get it's time from the PC...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got HTC Sync set-up to sync up my outlook calendar and contacts. ran it through, and other than truncating address fields to 25 chars, it all worked fine. But then I ran it again, to cehck it was all ok giong forwards (ie expecting no updates), and it:Deleted 32 of my 200 contacts (seemingly at random) from Outlook - left them on the phone. If I manually replace them oon Outlook then duplicates are created on the phone on next sync. Altered 3 recurring appointments (birthdays, 3 out of about 40 in my calendar) in Outlook so that instead of running from midnight to midnight (ie all day events) they run from 23:00 to 23:00, and hence show up over two days. Claimed to have updated a handful more contacts, though I can't see what may have changed. how to avoid? Number 2 is particularly odd. I'm guessing it's something to do with daylight saving, but why only 3 of 40? I've checked the settings against other non-affected appointments, and can see no difference!

I noticed something weird...HTC Hero only synced contacts photos that were set by the HTC Touch Pro originally! and didn't sync any contact photo was set by the iPhone! sure thing the photos are working with Outlook without problem and I was able to sync them to the Touch Pro without a problem...

However, all my annoying meetings from work are now popping up as "notifications" in my phone's status bar. I can't stand corporate meetings, which are a colossal waster of time, and i don't want to be reminded of all the meetings on my work schedule. I was able to successfully turn of the Outlook mail notifications on my phone (and I still get Gmail notifications, since they are two separate email systems, which is exactly what I want). How do I turn my "Outlook calendar reminders," but still be reminded of my Google Calendar reminders, which is my personal, and far more important, calendar?

Now the good news for those of us needing Outlook, Simply download HTC Sync for Eris (I am using the Incredible) found here HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID ERIS by HTC (Verizon) - Downloads Install on your computer (also download the manual from the same page). Restart your computer. Attach your powered off phone to the computer via the USB cable, power it on and when prompted select "HTC Sync" (in order to see the selections your screen cannot be in locked mode) Hope this is complete, I believe it is. I deleted all my outlook entries (calendar and contacts) from the phone because it was creating duplicates. Now, I am syncing my Hero with my Lotus Notes calendar at work, as well with my Google calendar. I can see all appointments on my phone. However, I can't see Lotus appointments on my Google account, neither my Google calendar entries on my Lotus Notes.
How can I sync them all? If I import my Google entries into Lotus, it will create duplicates in the Phone and vice-versa.
I don't see any advantages for Google entries to be separated from my other entries. I have one list of contacts and that list should be the same across all programs I use. The same for calendars (actually it is useful to have multiple calendars, as long as no duplicates exists).
That, for me, is the biggest drawback of the HTC Hero. My Moto Q was a lot worse phone than the Hero, but the calendar and contacts sync was much better.
exchange to sync email due to the fact you have more options on the email client that comes with phone as opposed to the basic gmail program that comes with phone? Is this a good way to go? Is exchange just as fast in pushing the email as google is when it syncs as it comes in? Thanks...
