Sprint HTC Hero :: Phone Died In Middle Of Taking Video - Restored Factory Settings

Feb 19, 2010

My phone died in the middle of taking video. Came home a couple hours later, plugged my phone into the charger. I turned the phone on, after it was plugged in. My phone froze during the little HTC and Hero intro. After the freeze, it was back on, but my screens were all back to factory settings! It also asked me to calibrate my keyboard, and the little popup bubbles to guide the user with their "new phone" came up! All my apps were gone!! I lost ALL of my contacts! The only thing that stayed was my pictures and videos. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Motorola Droid :: Phone Died / Stuck In Reboot Loop

Jun 30, 2010

I've been rooted for quite some time to it. Not exactly an old pro, but I know my way around at this point. At any rate, I decided to give the BatteryLeft widget a try today since I went to Fab's xTheme and it didn't have a battery percentage in the notification bar. The dev recommends that you let your phone completely discharge a few times so that it can accurately predict the remaining percentage and the time until the battery dies.So I let the battery completely discharge and I connected it to my home wall charger to begin recharging. The problem I have been having is that my phone will not stay powered off and continually tries to boot up. I tried charging via car charger, USB and in the media dock and I had the same result.

The problem is that the phone won't charge long enough to stay powered on and continue to charge. The process of rebooting seems to prevent the phone from charging appropriately and uses up the small bit of the charge the battery gets for the 2-3 seconds before rebooting.I tried rebooting into CWR and letting it sit to gather enough charge to stay up, but that doesn't seem to have worked either.I'm at a loss for what to do. I can't get the phone to stay on to do anything, I can't get it to stay off to charge.

HTC Droid Eris :: Advanced Task Killer - Phone Died

Nov 15, 2009

I downloaded atk a couple days ago and everything worked great! Last night my phone died. When I charged it and turned it back on this morning I went into task killer to clear out all the apps that turn on automatically and then I hit home. Whenever I did this before, it took me back to the home page, no problem. Now I get a black page with HTC on it and then it resets the home page and I lose my weather. Eventually, it comes back, but why all the sudden am I getting the black HTC screen?

HTC Incredible :: Sd Card Died On Rooted Froyo Phone / Lost Market & Other Apps

Aug 23, 2010

I still have some apps and my phone and wifi seem to be working fine.I don't have Market, Rom Manager, Titanium (but I DO have SuperUser). When I USB my phone to PC - the PC doesn't see either the phone pr the card although I haven't reinstalled HTC Sync). At this point, I don't really even know if I'm rooted or have busybox.I'm really puzzled as to what I should do next:I don't know whether to do a phone restore from Settings or, perhaps from Recovery? Or whether to find a RUU (Is there one with the updated radio or with Froyo? Or, I guess I could wait for the OTA - but that's a wimped out way out and it might not even work at this point. Or, do I want to try reinstalling Rom Manager and do the permission fix - then reflash one of the Froyo Roms. But would that get me Market back? In all cases I'm gonna have to reinstall most of my apps since most resided (at least partially) on the dead sd. Fortunately appbrain has a record of all my apps. - but, from what I understand, there's no way to install the Market, except via HTC/Google/Verizon.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Phone Reset On Its Own

Feb 14, 2010

I've searched around the forums to see what happened but none have had any answers. My phone died last night and I charged it and turned it on and it reset itself. All my phone contacts are gone. My apps are gone, but I can just redownload them. I know that I did not hit the reset button combo. Does anyone know what/why this happened? And is there any way to get my contacts back? My phone is rooted with Fresh 1.1 and Gumbo kernel with Set CPU.

Sprint HTC Hero :: After Hard Reset Phone Working Well

Jun 2, 2010

I was having a bunch of issues with crashes, lag, bluetooth, and 100% awake time. And now they're gone. The only thing is - I don't know why. And my past experience with the hero is that issues you think are dealt with, sneak back in when you least expect it. I was experiencing issues even after I wiped my phone, then installed the official Sprint Rom (replacing the leak). Then I hard shut the phone down and was going to hard reset it again. But first, I swapped batteries. Then did a hard reset. Does anyone know if taking the battery out could have had any effect at all? I don't want to start an old wives tale about the phone if there's really no technical reason this should have done anything.

Whatever the case, I've re-installed all the apps I was using before. I've run every single program I could to see if there were any that would crash - and so far nothing has. I had WiFi and mobile network turned out, my bluetooth connected and was using Google Maps without any problems. I have yet to experience the landscape keyboard lag that everyone else is talking about. The phone can still be a bit sluggish here and there - it seems especially when I have my bluetooth headset connected, the phone can take a couple of seconds to make a call when I push on an picture in the "people" widget. But honestly - that seems to be the only complaint I have and I've been pushing the phone really hard trying to replicate old problems or find new ones.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Phone Working Slow After Reset

Jul 6, 2010

Ok, probably been talked about but it's very annoying. I have the 2.1 update and the firmware update that came a week ago. I like that they fixed the keyboard vibrate problem(where it would vibrate long once, and then every other vibration would be half the length) but the lag is still unbearable. How come the iPhone perfected the touch screen and when HTC made the Hero(years later), it comes out worse? I can't type as fast as on an iPhone, nor can I make calls fast enough. Why does it always take so long for the phone to go into "call mode"? Even though I have no programs running in the background it is slow as balls. I'll reset the phone and delete all my text messages. The keyboard is unresponsive for fast typers. I'll tap a button and it will lag and act as if I held it and puts a symbol instead. Anyone else suffer from this problem?

HTC EVO 4G :: Live Wallpaper Went Away When Battery Died / What To Do?

Jun 8, 2010

First off, I purposely killed my battery. I bought the phone and that night (June 5th) I charged it to 100%. I have since let it dwindle with periodic use and only marginal charging from when I copy files to the SD card via USB.

So it finally dwindled down to 20% today and I decided to kill it. I busted out android-wifi-tether and played YouTube and refreshed web pages from my iPhone on its wifi hotspot, and in no time got it down to 5%. I kept playing with it and finally it died. w00t! Mission accomplished!

So I plugged it in and began charging it. I waited about 10 mins and then powered it on. It booted up and immediately I noticed the carbon wallpaper. No more live wallpaper. I set live wallpaper and it works but I wonder why it showed me what looks like a carbon wallpaper (a bunch of gray pixels tiled all over). I wonder if Android disabled live wallpapers in a fleeting attempt to conserve battery. Any ideas?

BTW, I'm still VERY pleased with the battery and in about 45 minutes of USB (not wall) charging and idling it's already up to 20%! That's pretty quick! More info: Another 50 mins another 20% charge. So I think it charges ~20% every ~60 mins it seems. So I guess 10% every 30 mins or so.

HTC 4G :: Evo Hardware Failure - Screen Died / What To Do?

Jun 12, 2010

I had to return my Evo today because the screen died last night while I was trying to take a picture of my girlfriend. I accidentally hit the zoom button instead of the shutter, and when I went to close that menu the screen went dark. The backlight was still lit, but nothing was visible on the screen. I tried taking the battery out and then trying again and a couple of times got the android recovery menu to load or the Evo boot screen to load, but shortly after lines would show up on the screen and the image would kind of melt away. Sadly, my radio shack is sold out and now I have to wait for their next shipment while I struggle to deal with a crappy free feature phone that I'm essentially loaning until my replacement comes in stock.

Anyone else have a screen failure, or am I extremely unlucky?

Android :: Process Died After Exiting Application

Jan 14, 2010

I am seeing a curious behaviour in my app. I have a widget that gets updated by a service every # hours, when the service finishes I stop it, using "stopService(new Intent(this, MyService.class));", the widget if pressed launches an Activity. Now it gets interesting, while im on the activity everyting works fine, then when I exit the app(by the back key or a button I designed which simply calls this.finish() ) the ActivityManager would tell me that my process has died, I do not see any error of any kind, just that the process has died.

Why I am seeing that message and what does it mean exactly? That is having a side effect on my service regarding static variables getting set to default. Could my code be the cause of this? Is there any way to know that your process has died? I have tested my app on a HTC Hero running 1.5, it always works well on the emulator and I never get that message. I know android kills processes to reclaim memory but Im always careful to close apps heavy on resources.

General :: Soft Keys Died On GT-i9000

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant GT-i9000 (Bell Mobility, Canada Edition).I am running Darkyrom V10.3 (NO! my problem has nothing to do with Darkyrom)The device is Rooted via Superoneclick

Here is the problem:

My back button has always seemed a bit glitchy and one of my friend told me to hit *#*#2663*#*# and hit "Touch key FW update".

I did that and my back button was acting even worse so I went back in and hit "TSP FW update".

Now my buttons do not work at all! I read somewhere that old me to do a factory reset but I really REALLY don't want to as I cant even backup my stuff in Titanium Backup Root because I have no menu key.

Both times the update came back with a pass and there was no error.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Died After Attempted Software Update Will Not Turn Back On?

Oct 14, 2010

I connected my X10 to my computer two days ago and was prompted to perform a software update which I chose to do believing it would get rid of some ongoing issues I've been having with the phone

The computer found the phone ok, then PC companion prompted me to disconnect the phone from the USB cable, making sure the battery was at least 50% full (it was), switch off the phone and wait at least 5 seconds (waited 30), then plug it back into the USB while pressing and holding the "Back" key.

All of this I did according to instructions, and the information on the screen said it was downloading the update, but broke down and stated that an unexpected error occured during installation. I was prompted to try again, which I did, same thing happened.

At this point the phone just shut down and point blank refuses to turn back on. I tried removing the battery and putting it back in, nothing, I also tried to charge it thinking maybe it was drained during the attempted update (power surge?) and again, nothing.

When I try to switch it back on while it is not connected to a charger or the computer the light flashes red three times. When I connect it to the computer it turns green for a few seconds then goes off again. Currently it's flashing red every few seconds, but will still not switch on.

My biggest problem is - if I take it in to be serviced, will they be able to retrieve my contacts from the phone memory? A backup was done but I no longer have access to this either as I had to reinstall my computer system and this data disappeared (i have a bunch of empty SE folders on my backup disk)

I'm in Croatia and support here are very, very fond of flashing the software as the easiest way out and swearing blind there is nothing they can do to keep the data - if nothing else I'd appreciate feedback from anyone else who has experienced this problem and got their phone back with contacts intact so I can argue more coherently when I take it in to the store tomorrow

I honestly don't care about any of the other data than my contacts, the rest is replaceable, but I have no way of contacting a lot of the people to get their numbers again.

Sprint HTC Hero :: How To Do Master Reset?

Jun 23, 2010

Here is the process as I keep reading in threads on peeps asking how to do it, maybe a Mod can sticky this for all to view when needed A master reset restores the original factory settings and will erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, contacts stored in the handset memory, etc. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). Back up all necessary data on the device memory before proceeding.
Menu Path Method:

1. From the Home screen, press the Menu Button and select Settings.
2. Select Security.
3. Select Factory data reset.
4. Select Reset phone.
5. Select Erase everything.
6. The device will dump all of the data and reload.
Key Stroke Method

1. Power the device OFF.
2. Press and hold the HOME and Back Arrow buttons. While holding these buttons, press the End Call button once.Release the Home and Back Arrow buttons and press the Trackball to execute the Hard Reset.
3. The device will reboot once the process is complete.
