View 13 Replies View RelatedGoogle today announced a free, turn-by-turn GPS navigation application for the new Android 2.0 smart phone platform.
This new feature comes with everything you'd expect to find in a GPS navigation system, like 3D views, turn-by-turn voice guidance and automatic rerouting. But unlike most navigation systems, Google Maps Navigation was built from the ground up to take advantage of your phone's Internet connection.
Among the features included in the application:
- Up-to-date map data: Automatically includes latest map data from Google, which is constantly being refined by Google and by users submitting corrections
- Plain English search: Locate destinations by entering business business name or landmark; no address needed
- Voice search: Speak destinations and Google Maps Navigation will automatically interpret and plot routes
- Live traffic data: Indicator warns of upcoming traffic issues
- Search along route: Find businesses along path of travel
- Satellite view: 3D view of route to aid in understanding directions
- Street View: first-person perspective of route and destination images
A video preview of Google Maps Navigation has also been posted.

Can anyone confirm if Google Navigation can be used to just show your progress/location on a road while driving, without having to have an actual destination input?I know this was shown on a few of Rob's videos as not being possible, but just wanted to confirm if anyone had any further info on it.
View 30 Replies View RelatedI recently just rooted my phone to 2.0d and added the live wallpapers to it. Well after I added the live wallpapers my google navigation wasn't working properly. Whenever I try to use it, it doesn't show my route like where I'm going. It looks like just a black screen in the middle and the voice doesn't work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA client of mine also has an Eris and I was helping her get her navigation system set up and teach her how to use it. I wanted to put the google navigator icon (the blue arrow) on her home screen but could not find it anywhere in her apps. I did find the google navigation (map icon) app and set that up for her. So, my questions are: What is the difference between the two? How come I couldn't find the navigator app on her phone (on mine, it's under "programs")?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my Moto Droid since just after the release and since rooting and ROMing in January, I'm really becoming more obsessed. Cyanogen has had a huge affect (for the better!) on my Android experience. Just curious what phone you guys think has the biggest developer community. (I'm obviously going with DROID ). I'd love to also hear the opinions of those with multiple Android phone experiences.
