I'm wondering if there is an app out there that i can use to set time for the mobile network to be on and off. I.E i want it turned off while i sleep and on during the day, i know i can do it manually but i keep forgetting and using up more of my allocation that i need to.

So I just got the HTC Hero for sprint and I love the phone. However I am not receiving any texts from anyone that is not on the sprint network.

I've searched and the best I've seen is someone saying it was 'high', without presenting any concrete numbers. I suppose latency fluctuations are important as well - does anyone have any info on this?
I have a problem with my android tablett, with sim card slot.In the mobile network settin, we can find this :
GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) - automatically switches between 2G/3G modes. When signal strength is low, 3G is favored more
GSM only - 2G only mode. When 2G signal strength is low, you get no data.
WCDMA only - 3G only mode. When 3G signal strength is low, you get no data.
But in my case, i can't switch to " GSM/WCDMA " or " WCDMA only ", it still changing in gsm only, when i change to " GSM/WCDMA " or " WCDMA only ", the setting goes automaticly in " GSM only ".
I have the following problem with my Milestone (~Droid): the mobile network status is always disabled no matter what I do! I have tried to switch the WI-FI network off, and I have tried to apply the airplane mode (as suggested here: Mobile Network Disabled?? - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum). Nothing helps. Actually, I have never seen the mobile network (3G/H) working on my Milestone since I got it.
I have a SIM card of my local operator, and that same SIM card is working fine on my HTC Hero. So there I can use 3G/H normally. It is also sad that there is no manual switch (I mean an option) in Droid/Milestone to switch the mobile network on/off manually just like in HTC Hero.
Just wanted to refresh for those that arent aware of this coming merger.

most uk networks who say that their plans include unlimited internet allowance actually have a limit of 500mb per month. i am on o2's pay as you go and i get unlimited internet on my phone for each month that i top up �15. i used my laptop to tether my phone's wifi once and ended up wuth a huge bill when i found out that the "unlimited internet" was actually 500mb. if you are listening to internet radio all the time or watching online videos then this 500mb is not enough. so my question is are there any networks who actually do provide unlimited internet allowance for your hero?

What is the efficient way to quickly lookup my local phone contacts database and "match" them based on their name. Since there are firstname, lastname and displayname this can vary.
What do you think, how can the best match be achieved?
Also how do I make sure I don't parse for each JSON item the whole database I want to avoide having JSON_COUNT x MOBILE COUNT steps
I got 2 Sprint HTC Heros 3 wks ago. They work fine with any WiFi network that shows up as available. Other WiFi networks are completely ignored and do not show up in the list of available networks. I installed WiFi Analyzer and it is also prevented from seeing the same "invisible" networks. One WiFi network which does not show up is my home network. Last weekend I was at a B&B in another state and had the same problem with their network. Their network was up and running and visible to other hardware but not to our Heros.
Our home WiFi router is a Linksys WRT110 running WPA-2 Personal AES. There typically are three devices on this network: 2 @ g and 1 @ n. I have seen other WPA-2 Personal networks show up as Available while traveling but have no idea what routers were used. I called Sprint support and eventually got to someone in Tech support who put me on hold after I explained the symptoms. 20 min later the call was dropped. So much for Sprint tech support .
I got the Hero on 3UK yesterday. As soon as I booted it up it found a number of wireless networks and I was able to connect to my BeBox with no problems. Later on last night and continuing today, it can't find any networks in range. It shows the BeBox as 'remembered' but not in range. Even tho I'm obviously sitting near it. I've rebooted the phone today and no change. I installed the Fonera application yesterday and thought it might be causing problems so disabled it and still the problem was there.

Also i couldn't get this to work with the stock orange 1.5, but didn't really explore why either. As i was ok with home use. I am traveling away from home more now and would like to connect to a open network. I have asked if i need a password and username but still no joy.. Is it a safety measure from orange i need to unable?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a pretty new T-mobile G2 Touch (HTC Hero) user. I got it 2 weeks ago. So today I shoot my first video with it. I used the default settings. Such as: Encoding type: MPEG4, and I shoot it with the sound on. When I finished I could reviewed the video on the Hero, along with the sound. But the problem showed up when I transfered the video on my PC. Firstly the file showed up like 3gp file, not like MPEG4, and when I tried to play it with VLC it showed me some problem and play back without sound. And the video quality was 3gp quality, although it was set to high resolution and MPEG4 format.

Have tried with my prepay O2 card, PAYG O2, 3 and T-mobile cards and only the T-mobile one works.Flashed it with various different ROMs but each time I get no service; when I go to mobile network settings network settingssearch networks I can see O2-UK but when I select it I get "your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network" (although it works in my Touch 3G). have looked everywhere, but for the life of me I can't find a fix for this.Would really appreciate any suggestions; my Touch 3g is very flaky and I need a reliable phone asap- live deep in the country and wife about to have a baby!

I've heard that there are many ways to unlock it, but as far as I know they all result in the disabling of the 3G network, which I really don't want to happen. I want to unlock so that I can use it with a Tesco mobile SIM, who use the o2 network.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a new HTC Hero but I'm having problems setting it up w/ T-Mobile's MMS. I looked around various sites for the correct APN settings but none of them seemed to work for me.
I actually had it working before, where I could send pictures w/ wifi on and to receive, I would simply have to turn the wifi off.
If anyone's in my situation (unlocked HTC Hero w/ T-Mobile network), I would appreciate it if you guys could provide me the correct APN settings.
So far I have had a really bad exp with Orange, can't really flaw the handset but found so many problems with their service.
(People say 'Three' are bad but the last 18mo with them have been a dream compared to the week with Orange)
Any thoughts? Do you reckon T-Mob are any better than Orange or about the same?
1.) Is it 3G compatible with AT&T or T-Mobile?
2.) Does the Android 2.1 update enable this phone for Live Wallpapers?
A friend of mine has just bought one, and cannot connect to the internet using his SIM card at all. He can receive calls fine but for some reason the mobile internet does not work even though his SIM is enabled for it. His phone does not have Market, but SlideMe, which suggests it is a Malaysian Hero (I think)? I don't know if this is the reason.
I tried my SIM card in his Hero and, again, it will not connect to mobile internet. I checked the settings and under Mobile Network Settings/Access Point Names there is nothing and none of the fields are completed (I never had to set this up on my Hero, it was automatically completed by my SIM Card/Provider once switched on).

Have had my Hero since Friday, and so far i'm loving it - apart from a couple of minor teething problems, which i hope you can advise me on. I apologise if these questions have been answered before - i have done a thorough search (of the web, too!) but not found exactly what i'm looking for.
My main problem seems to be with Peep - i like the interface and would be more than happy to use it as opposed to downloading another app, but it seems to be very temperamental with the updates/notifications. I have it set to update/notify me every 15 minutes - which it doesn't. And when i go into Peep myself, (even if i do a manual refresh) it rarely gets the latest tweets. I downloaded Twitdroid to try, but this force closed about 4 times before i got fed up and uninstalled it!
There seems to be an annoying lag on the phone too - reading about, it seems this MAY have something to do with being logged into Peep?
Should i do a ROM upgrade - would this help? Build number is 1.76.110.6 (if i'm looking at the right thing!)
Oh, and apparently my hubby texted me a few hours ago, too - this hasn't come through either!
I have a G2 touch UK and the USB cable that plugs into the phone end has not got a mini usb port but rather something shaped like it but not quite the same. Tried a usb to mini usb adapter on it and it wouldn't fit. What connection is it? It's not micro usb either.
