HTC Hero :: Need Ad Blocker For Apps
Nov 15, 2010Forgive me if this has already been asked and answered. But when I find a great app, I support the developer and no more ads. But I've found some that don't give me the option to kill the ads.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need a good ad blocker. I go back and forth between Google Chrome and IE for my internet search. My biggest pet peeve is all those ads and popup videos! On my laptop I have avg internet security, malwarebytes, SAS to fight the battle of viruses, malware, spyware but I need a good adblocker. Im not tech savvy, frankly, I'm sooo afraid that I'll crash my laptop with one of my visit to a unsafe site, that it prevents me from truly enjoying the net. So, I was adviced to get the ad blocker advisor app from google or should I get an ad blocker extension? I realize I really dont know the difference.,,an app or extension? Is there one for IE too?

This person seems obsessed and at times honestly scares me. They've sent over a hundred texts in less than an hour. Pls I've tried googling but come up with year old posts that lead to nothing. Market searches lead to only bad reviews.

One of the really cool things about Inc is that it includes web browser support video streaming. The flip side is that if you use this on sites where it's offered, you will likely get annoying ad popups! Why is it then that neither the Marketplace nor Appbrain offers any software to control this? I realize that Firefox software tweaks, which control everything from popup ads to cookies, script control, and much more, are called addons but with Android the browser would be Google Chrome. Is this the problem, or can I get controls like this in Google-world too, specifically for Android?
Suppose I changed the default browser to Firefox, would I be able to use most of it's addons (I already know most of them work in Linux for PCs, but Android hasn't quite impressed me so far with much PC-like tweakability). How would I go about doing this, anyway?
Currently I use NQ mobile call blocker. When I receive a call from the blocked numbers, this app respond to the caller by allowing two or three ringing and after that cancel that call. I need to know are there any app that can use zero ringing? Which means no ringing respond to caller, instantly cancel call.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs anyone aware of a listing of apps that require Android 2.1 to run (e.g. apps like Google Goggles, etc.)? I've searched the threads here at Android Forums and elsewhere and haven't been able to find such a list or site.
Now that I upgraded to 2.1, I'd like to "see what I've been missing" and take advantage of the new OS.
So, I installed the N1 News and Weather App and find it to be awesome!
My question...are there any other apps from the N1 or other android phones that will work on the Hero?
I would like to know whats some free ringer apps? browser apps? fb apps? music apps? and theme apps?
View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if the upcoming Android 2.1 update to the Sprint Hero will allow us to save apps to the SD card without having to root the phone? And also, some things to think about: remember that the Hero only runs class 2 speeds, even if the card is class 6. Do you think this will change once we receive Android 2.1? Because if not, I would imagine that the phone would be slow opening apps (assuming apps to SD will be available).I know that if they do program the Hero to allow class 6 speeds, and allow apps to SD (without root) then the Hero could run MUCH faster than it does now.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to remove pre-installed programs?
For example, the following programs were pre-installed:
Amazon MP3
Footprints
Teeter
And maybe some others.
I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?
Sprint TV
Sprint-Nextel
NFL
Nascar
Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?
A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.
I have a rooted HTC Hero, and I was, until a couple of days ago, running MoDaCos 1.6 ROM.
I decided, (foolishly perhaps?) to try to move my apps to the SD card. I partitioned the Sdcard using Amon Ra's boot recovery screen and all went fine. I then used the option "move apps to SD" also included in the boot recovery. I am now using Froyd Villain's newest froyo ROM, and all the apps are working fine but the apps aren't on the phone, and they aren't on the ext- partition of my sdcard, so i come to the conclution that they must be on the fat 32 partition, but how the heck do i access them? Neither the phone nor my computer can access the fat32 pertition of my sdcard.
The problem being that I've just bought a larger sdcard, and I want to transfer all my apps to that card, but I can't since I can't even locate the files.
I have tried backing up all the aplications using titanium backup, but the phone won't boot without the sdcard, so i cant import them onto the new card. Any suggestions?
I upgraded to villain 5.2 today and I'm eager to check out the apps I've been missing whilst I was stuck on android 1.5
So, what's the best 2.1 apps that people can recommend?
I've got Google Goggles and seen the update to Maps to all navigation, but that's it really.
Also, I've noticed that the battery widget supplied by HTC on the market is not 2.1 compatible. I went to install it and it throws out an error. Typical HTC
For some reason whenever I put my card details into the store checkout it fails to connect to the server, its quite annoying because I would like to buy a few games!I wonder why there is no iTunes type system or the payment just gets added to the bill/deducted from credit..

View 3 Replies View RelatedI introduced myself as a "digital dog" barking for "Apps! And so I quickly filled my Hero until getting a notice saying it's too full with only 15MB left. Trouble is, I'd like to add even more. So is there a way to make room in my phone (not my SD card) other than uninstalling? I don't think it's possible to move apps to my spacious card and link them, right? I'm still going through the apps to see which ones work and fit into my life, and don't want to uninstall any just yet. Is there another way?
