I am the lucky owner of a new HTC Hero. I sure like the phone, I only got one problem. At my college, we have WiFi with encryption. But I cant find out how to access the internet.
This is our encrytion:

Any idea on how I can apply these settings? I have a username and password.

How exactly do I set up WiFi work most efficiently on my EVO? Does it know to choose the best option for getting to the internet? (WiFi or 3/4G?)
Here's why I ask: I have an app that syncs info between the internet and the phone. When I can't get a signal, it can't sync. Often I have crappy reception at home, one or two bars only (a whole 'nother thread), but I do have a strong wifi signal.
Being a newbie to all this, in my little world, logic assumes that the phone would automatically switch from 3or4G to wifi for the exchange of data (but not for talking). But I think I don't have it right. Can someone explain it to me? And how to best set up my phone to take advantage of the strongest signal for data exchange?
It worked last time I was rooted but just rooted again after 2.2. My computer recognizes it but when I try to connect it just says no internet access.

I am able connect via WiFi to home network just fine - connects quickly and I get a proper IP.
However, nothing will connect - email, browser, marketplace, etc...
Everything works fine from my laptop on the same wireless network. Never had any issue w/any guest laptops at my home on the network. I don't have mac address filtering or any other settings like that...am using wpa.
Any ideas? Never seen this happen before...previously I've used my phone on wifi from home it worked, but that's been quite a while, can't remember when/which ROM.
Again - I connect fine to my wireless network, get an IP, but when I try to access anything from my phone it acts like I'm not connected. Go back to 3G and all is fine. Tried going back and forth between wifi and 3g, and it behaves the same way each time...appreciate any help.
Now it's working...weird. Didn't change any setting. I was trying another ROM (that wouldn't even boot for me - Chevy has a new 2.1 w/working auto-brightness, mute, keyboard lock) and after flashing back to 7.9 now wifi is working.
i just picked up a unlocked a moto cliq.. my concern is that i have never had a data plan on my account (at&t). this phone seems to have alot of different apps and widgets updating themselfs continuosly.. i have no problem with while im at home beacuse of my wifi that i can connect to.. but when im not on a wifi connection it seems to still be updating.. which i dont want until i upgrade my plan to unlimited data.. How do i turn off these features or turn off data/ internet acess all together when im not on a wifi connection?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus Slider Sl101. Around 3 days ago, our router had been changes as the previous one wasn't working properly. Our carrier is Charter and our router is Netgear. We hooked every device up to that new router and everything worked fine, including the tablet. But later on in the day,the Internet on there stopped working.
It shows that it's connected, but when I try to access the internet through the browser, it does not work. The blue line at the top of the browser starts up, moves forward a little, and stops entirely while the browser then says "Webpage Not Available". Apps that require Internet, such as Accuweather and my SAT apps, fail to work as well. Other devices that use our wifi include another computer and Nintendo DSi and 3DS. They all work fine. Our router shows that our android is connected to it, as well.
I've tried the static IP stuff, restarted the router, left the wifi off on the tablet for a few hours, and turned it off and off. I even factory resetted it and not even that worked.
I'm interested in encrypting my phone (rootbox 4.2) including the external SD Card (if that's possible..?) but i need to know if you do it, then let's say you take that sd card out of the phone and plug it in your pc, how do you access the data? And is that still impossible to unencrypt the phone after it was encrypted (i mean on last android versions)?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Belkin N router. The hardware version is F5D8236-4 v2 (01). I for the life of me cannot get my EVO 4G to connect to my router. I normally use WPA2 for my encryption. At the suggestion of another member here I tried WPA, then WEP and then I finally shut off all encryption and just opened my network. Nothing worked. My EVO 4G just simply refuses to connect. As an experiment, I finally tried to connect to a friends 2Wire AT&T wireless router which was WEP encrypted and it worked the first try.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm a very light mobile phone user (100 minutes per month at most, often much less, with a sprinkling of texts) and I expect to need intensive mobile internet access only sporadically. Since much of this will be while travelling abroad I don't want to get locked into a large regular commitment to a UK carrier.
If all I wanted was phone access (calls and texts) the obvious answer would be a standard PAYG deal where the value of each top-up stays on the phone indefinitely until I use it. However, so far as I can see, this kind of deal doesn't seem to be available for internet data access (except at ridiculous prices like ?1 per MB).
At reasonable rates per GB all I can find are "rolling" deals where I pay monthly until I cancel or one-off "add-ons" (for example from Three where I can buy 500MB for use within 7 days or 2GB for use within a month). In either case, any allowance I don't use within the period goes to waste. What's more the one-off add-on carries the risk of forgetting to look out for the end of the 7-day or 30-day period and getting hit by penal charges.
I am working on an Android application which does http request and download contents etc. I want to test such cases on Android Simulator. I am using Android SDK 1.6.As my computer(Mac OS X) has Internet connectivity via Wifi, I'm trying to activate Wifi connectivity in Android Simulator as well, so that my code can get data connection access to download the data from http server. But when i try to connect it, it says 'Unable to start Wi-Fi' in the simulator wireless settings. If i try to browse in emulator browser, it says 'page not available, check connection etc'. Can you please tell me how to have Internet connection on Android Emulator? I don't know how to set Wifi settings in Android simulator. Could someone help me on this?

Please give me step by step procedure to have Internet connectivity on Android Emulator as i didn't find anything from anywhere.
I'm new to the forum and to Android. Last week I replaced my Palm Centro with the new AT&T Xperria X10. About a week before the new cell phone arrived, I replaced our old Netgear wireless router with a new Cisco-Linksys E2000 router. All was well, except my daughter's PC (XP Home) and my other daughter's laptop (Vista), could not connect to the router. Got the new X10, and it connected without any problem.
Then - trying to get the other two computers to connect, I changed the 801.b security from WAP2 Personal to WEP Shared (One of them has an old Linksys wireless adapter that won't allow anything but WEP). Then my daughters were both able to connect, but not the Xperia. I have tried everything I can think of - no success. I changed the router security mode to disabled, and I could not connect. I changed the Xperia to Static IP - no connection. I entered the password in both ASCII text and HEX, neither succeeded.
Just got a new Hero using a PAYG o2 sim and I am having trouble connecting to the internet without Wi-Fi. I remember someone saying that it was easy entering the settings for o2. Can some kind soul give me a simple step-by-step instruction for setting up the hero with o2?

How do I know if the phone is accessing the internet through WiFi or not? Obviously WiFi doesnt count towards the limit, so I want to know that I'm using it as often as possible.
Do widgets on the home page count towards your data limit? I've got a weather widget, facebook, bbc news, email, all getting their info from the internet. Is this going to be raking up the MBs while the phone is just sat in my pocket?
Is there a number I can ring to see how much data I've used? I'm with Orange. A number to call to check my texts and minutes would be helpful, too.
I've got a Sprint Hero with Android 2.1 (.6 and not .5 as required for unrevoked). All I want is root access (no custom roms) for some applications (mainly WiFi tether). I'm a complete noob to rooting and what I gathered from the guides is that all data is erased. Is there any way (regardless of how complicated) such taht I don't lose any data/apps and just gain root access?
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy hotspot is all set up. I turn it on and I can see it from my laptop. I connect the laptop and EVO says there is 1 connection. But, the laptop connection gets no Internet access. I've tried it with and without security set up. I've rebooted. I even took the battery out and let it rest. (All of that cleared out the Error 67 on the phone but still the laptop sees no Internet.) Internet on the phone is great - even got 4G, but. What in the heck am I doing wrong? How can I get Internet access for the laptop?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with HTC One. The problem is the phone CAN connect to wifi / mobile network, but it CANNOT access internet. Every time I try to access any websites or apps that require internet connection like Facebook, it takes so long for the page-loading thing, and then it said:"The webpage is not available" or "No network connection." I also attempted to shut it down and restart, disconnect wifi and re-type the password. It doesn't work at all.
P.S: I did test the other devices, and the network works fine. So, apparently, it's not the network problem itself.
My wife did the froyo update today (8-8-10) she is unable to access the internet and receives this message : The application Internet (process com.Android.browser) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Then the " Force close " box pops up. She took it to the Sprint store and they were stumped, the phone says that it is connected even though it is not!

After that i closed adb shell command prompt and my emulator. and then opened my emulator but webbrowser is not opening any page(web page not available messaage) .
I've been using this method to gain access to internet from my Android emulator. emulator -http-proxy <> -avd <>
It works but is that the best way to do it? It just doesn't feel right that I need to open the emulator from command line and can't just do it from Eclipse or something.
Can't seem to find an internet option on the "AVD Manager" either.
I had my mobile unlocked from the T mobile network, so i could use my three sim card in the HTC Desire. However the sim works fine making calls, and using the wifi, but I cannot access the mobile internet. Three have told me the mobile is not compatible as it is not a three phone. Can anyone please assist? When i boot up the phone T Mobile branding appears, has this got anything to do with it.
