View 4 RepliesI'm coming back to Android and getting my Hero soon. Is there anything I NEED to know before I get it? Pros and cons of rooting? Must have apps? Bugs and fixes? Or anything else I should know?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI know their are plenty of topics about how to root, what it does, and roms and everything. But I and others are a still a bit concerned I am sure. If you don't plan on helping or contributing to this then don't say their are plenty of topics on the site and other websites. I have read the forum on xda developers on how to root the CDMA Hero, but I am still a bit confused. If you root what are some benefits, I have heard sometimes the device runs alot faster and snappier, and I have heard it is slow and sluggish. Also what are some other things that can be tweaked/customized, I would want to do this to screen capture, change to a white taskbar, and maybe try and add a rom. What is the best method to changing Roms, what program do I need? Also is it possible that if I were to change roms to go back to the stock rom and stock settings without bricking or screwing up my phone. If anyone can give me the best method, and a 2.0 or 2.1 rom for the hero, I don't care if HTC sense is on their or not. I like 2.1 without it. Anyone who can give details on why I should, shouldn't would be greatly appreciated and I am sure many people would too. Anything that gives or lists benefits and things you can do if you root would be great. Also a link to the best forum or youtube video that gives detailed responses on step by step instructions on how to root for the Sprint CDMA Hero.
View 14 Replies View RelatedLet's say the user starts with a 16GB, class 6 SD card. What are the benefits of storing apps to the SD card? Does it let the phone run smoother? Does it allow you to install more apps on your phone? What are the cons? Do apps take longer to open/load? Is there a risk of damaging the SD card and/or the phone? If someone could explain this to me as thoroughly as possible.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just received a text message from HTC stating the follow: "The rumors are true! Hero will be getting an Eclair update. We ask for your patience as we update Sense for the fancy Android OS." This is awesome news! Now what will Eclair offer us?
View 9 Replies View RelatedCan someone explain to me the pros and cons of rooting and if its easy? Can it break your evo?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I'm considering rooting, but don't quite know what all I will be able to do with it. Just a list of the advantages and risks of doing it would be cool.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had my Droid for about 4 months now and I love it. I came from a long line of BB's so it's refreshing. But I get tired very quickly of having limits I guess. I don't know whether to go Droid X, wait for Froyo release or Root my Droid. I know it's a smaller processor in my Droid but it's not exactly SLOW. I have pdaNET and don't need to Root due to tethering. I just want something a little quicker. Pros and Cons are what I am after?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering, would I only be able to take advantage of my phone (were I to root it) from my computer at home as far as making changes that I can't do now, or will I be able to do a lot of it from my phone too? I ask because I have more time to use my phone than my computer since I'm away from home working a lot of hours during the week. I am also nervous that I might mess my phone up if I root it, or that it will need warranty replacement after being rooted and be broken to the point that I can't undo that before I take it in. I am not a tech expert or computer nerd but I can follow directions and I'm far from technically challenged. I don't doubt I could do that if I wanted to. I'm just not sure if rooting is for me, although I think a lot of stuff I want to do I can't without rooting, I just hope I don't get in over my head.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have read up a lot about rooting my phone, and I think I might give it a go, mainly to get rid of some of the bloatware on the sprint hero, and also for the apps2sd capability. My question is however, how will this effect my ability to update to android 2.1 in the first half of next year. Will I have to wait for a custom ROM to be made or will i be able to update as normal?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have rooted my phone just to delete some of the sprint crap apps. Now my question is since I did not flash a custom ROM on to my device will I be able to update the phone when Sprint releases the OTA Update or will I have to use the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.56.651.2_signed_release.exe to put my phone back to factory stock. (Also can I just do a hard reset to accomplish the same thing).
The Apps I removed:
Sprint Nascar
Stocks
Amazon Mp3
just updated my Htc hero (GSM) firmware 1.5 to 2.1 through the system settings>update without Rooting it ;( Now it wont go ahead of boot screen, just hangs on the hero screen
1) Tried removing battery/sdcard didn work
2) Recovery mode - It is showing me a Hero with a triangle having " ! " mark
3) In System recovery utiltity (home+power)
- tried wipe data, it works
- but when i try apply sdcard:update.zip -> E:cant open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file/directory).Installation Failed
it also shows me this error : E:can't open/cache/recovery/command
I have seen the rooting video by theunlockr and it seems easy enough. And I can follow instructions so installing the ROM should not be an issue.
What/where is the radio update and how do I install it?
If I backup my apps with MyBackupPro, will they be able to receive updates once reinstalled using MyBackupPro?
Is there any word on an official update? Would I receive it direct from HTC or need to wait for an Orange allowed one?
Should i jump ship to villain6? what are the pros and cons? no gps on either i take it though right? also, what app would i use to backup my apps and contacts?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an unlocked, unbranded Hero (bought without a SIM, currently being used with a 3 UK SIM) and am waiting (patiently) for notification when an update is available. Nothing has arrived on my phone and I can't see anything relevant on the HTC Support website. Meanwhile I understand that many Hero users have already been able to upgrade and so have presumably experienced the pros and cons of the upgrade. Googling for information I find a number of reports of "issues", especially with the Sprint version of the Hero. Do people generally find that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a little bit of opinion and a little bit of inside info (if anybody's got any) with regards to upgrading hardware. As everyone is aware, the Hero came out in October 2009, meaning that in a few short weeks, anyone who purchased the Hero at launch (at least those with "Premium" standing) is eligible for a hardware upgrade. I have been on the fence about pulling the trigger on upgrading to an Evo (as I'm sure quite a few people are as well). I've taken a look at some of the pros and cons and I'm still weighing my decision on those. I'm not going to go into the pros and cons because that's not the goal of this post. I understand fully that technology, especially in the world of smartphones, is a very fluid animal and that "the next big thing" is always around the corner. No matter what you do, anytime you purchase a phone/computer/etc, it's obsolete within 3-4 months, and sometimes sooner. I can accept that. What I would like to avoid, is upgrading my phone and on the 31st day (the day after you can return it) have Sprint announce that the next big thing is around the corner and will be released in November/December. I've done some research over the past few weeks, and I can't seem to find any information on any new phones coming to Sprint, so I was hoping that the fine people in the forum could provide guidance. I haven't even really heard any rumors with regards to the next Android phone coming to Sprint.
View 49 Replies View RelatedI was looking at the searches for chomps vs handcent, but didn't see anything for the sprint version of this. I am going to get a Hero very soon (switching from a Palm Pre) and so was just wondering what you use? Are there any pro's or con's to using Handcent or Chomp? (battery life, speed, crashes, quick replying, etc)
View 35 Replies View RelatedHas anyone one been using the launcher Pro Beta, would like some feedback, on weather this app helps in resolving some of the dialing issues that are in the HTC stock UI, just curious, the lag on calls is really a PITA, any input on this app.
View 29 Replies View RelatedHow do I change the lockscreen to like maybe the eclair lockscreen(without using an app)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs we call know, our Hero (at the moment at least) runs Android 1.5. Also, it WILL be getting Eclair, which from what I've heard has native CDMA support? What, doest that mean 1.5 did not have CMDA support?
What can we expect from an OS that has native CDMA support? Does it have anything to do with the phone's software performance? I'm just a little confused on this, and if someone couldnt shed some light on it that would be very nice...
I am currently running Fresh 2.0d and i'm starting to love it. I was previously flashed with Fresh 1.1 and was using LockBot, but when i tried it with Fresh 2.0d i started have some issues, so.... is there any way to create lockscreens that are like the ones that are lockbot? (i.e. Flan, Eclar, Iphone)
I know in the [Guide] Creating Custom Lockscreens there's discussions about adding a tutorial for 2.1 roms, but nothing yet.
Do i have to be rooted to use this method? How to start over: Fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 in one shot (no adb!) - xda-developers
View 1 Replies View RelatedI read that a new OTA update is coming for the EVO. When a new update comes from Sprint, should I wait for a rooted version of it? If so, how do I apply it? Through recovery? Sorry if these have been asked before, but search results were kind of wonky and all over the place.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi obviously have 1.47.651.5 ota update, the one that no one has. i have tried unrevoked, and toasts root method, and i have reasons to root like wifi tether overclocking and deleting stock apps
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a US Cellular Desire - I rooted it with Unrevoked 3 forever - only to free up some memory and take some apps off that were preloaded. I did not delete any stock files - or use a custom rom of any kind. My question is - when the 2.2 official OTA froyo update comes - will I be able to do it OTA since there is no custom rom? Or will I have to do it another way. If I have to do it another way -what is that process? I dont care if it stays rooted or not - I am new to all of this - and would actually prefer just to go with the 2.2 official froyo update and not be rooted in the future.
View 7 Replies View Relatedis there a root method for the evo 3d after you got your 4.0.3 update that will work?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the phone and not particularly computer savvy. I've been doing my homework and research about rooting and I was wondering... a friend mentioned that when Verizon releases an upgrade to Android OS 2.1 (Flan), Android will likely remove the exploit that allows for rooting. If that is the case, you will not be able to root in the future. But if I rooted now I would always be able to. He also mentioned if I rooted I would lose the ability to upgrade to 2.1 over the air and would have to download the upgrade via a computer and USB. Is this true?
View 11 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody know how we would root this rom without flashing one of BH_MAN's kernels? Would we have to use that try3 file again?
