I'm using a HTC hero on the stock android 2.1. I would like to install a Custom ROM, so please suggest the best one . I've been contemplating FroydVillain 1.5.0 n VillainROM 12, also how to go about rooting like back up n installing.

View 15 Replies View Relatedim running the latest MoDaCo custom rom along with setCPU (set to ondemand) and CacheMate, plus a class 6 SD card - which from reading these forums leads me to believe is about the fastest you can make an Orange Hero.one, i was unsure when rooting to MoDaCo whether i automatically got the latest radio installed too or whether thats something you gotta do seperately (if so, am i missing better signal by having just the stock MoDaC two, when 2.1 comes out should i ignore it completely? i know how i did everything and why, but im still unsure if MoDaCo rom was the best choice for stability and speed ( i use the phone mainly for calls and music player, no games or apps really) - some ppl on the SetCPU forums say you should use some other ROM.

Every time when i try to enter Hboot I get this error : Searching HEROIMG.zip ,HEROIMG1.zip and it doesn't finds it and returns back. I also cannot do a flashrec. I renamed image into recovery-backup,recovery etc,etc, but it says Flash failed,I changed version from the newest to the oldest tried many image files. Nothing helps. When I try to enter a recovery menu I cannot get a custom recovery menu,I am only being stucked at normal hero recovery menu.
View 5 Replies View Relatedso now that im comfortable with flashing rom's, radio's and kernels i would like to partition my SD card.Although learning i am still not 100% clear on how the 3 partitions work.I understand one is for where all the apps (apps 2sd) music, photo's and video's go, another one is for increased system performance like increasing the phones virtual memory or something and i have no clue what the other is for.Also i am hopeing that you all can recommend what custom recovery you are all using, i understand that some of the new recovery's have a few diffrent options on partitioning the sd card.So basically i am looking for a little clarity in what the diffrent partitions do and recommendations on a good custom recovery tool. also do i install the new recovery tool just like flashing a new rom? i don't know how to replace the new recovery over the current one. and i cant seem to find a forum thread that explains enough of this for me. been looking for a few hours.still learning

Was wondering if it was worth upgrading?I'm happy with the way the phone is, so unless there's a serious improvement I probably won't bother.
My build number says 2.73.405.5 MCR2.2c.On another note, if I did upgrade, would it put the phone back to factory standard (i.e would I lose all my customisation, apps, etc)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI believe I've just rooted my phone, but haven't put a custom ROM on yet. I've got a few questions about it:
1.) What Sprint apps can be removed without affecting other things? (such as weather widget)
2.) Is there a way to eliminate some of the boot screens (especially the Sprint one) without putting a custom ROM on?
3.) Will root alone, and the removal of those worthless apps speed up my phone a bit? (especially the occasional lag in bringing the notification screen down)
4.) Can these changes be undone one by one rather than doing a complete recovery?
got bit bord at work so made this its a cradle for my phone for in the car.was just my first attempt so plenty room for developement.

Im still trying to get a good feel for what i am doing before i go and root my phone and flash a custom rom. my last real question is i see so many different custom roms people are using. where can i find all these to put on my phone. also i am on 2.1 do i have to use a 2.something custom rom or can i use any custom rom. im at about an 95% user ability as far as using my phone and computer. i have never hacked/ flashed/ altered anything like a phone or computer or video game system. i have always just used as is. i wanna try this becuase i have read i can go back and go stock on this if i cant do it or dont like the results.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been around these forums since the Hero came out. I was lurking then and became a member when I bought a Hero 2 weeks later. I enjoy my Hero although yes it is slow at times. I love watching my SprintTV on my phone and listening to Pandora. I have read that if I but a custom ROM on and SetCPU and a few other goodies, I can speed the phone up a lot and have a better experience. I also hear that I can tether without having to use PDANet.
1. Can I still use Sprint TV?
2. Is the speed boost really worth installing a Custom ROM
3. What is the benefit of just Rooting the phone and keeping the Stock ROM?
4. I see this voids the warranty, but if you put the stock software back on the phone, does sprint ever know that you rooted if you take it in for service?
5. And can some of you that have done this process list out the top 5 favorite features you got out of this. Makes these actual results, not just what you heard about.
Just wondering which is the best Rom to use can you only use a Rom if you have rooted your phone..
