Just a quick question. Can an Eris with HBOOT version 1.46 be rooted? I know v1.47 can, but I couldn't find another mention of 1.46 (and search won't allow that search term).
This is for my fiancee's phone that I bought her back in November. She is willing to swap Eris's with me since both mine and the replacement I just got are v1.49.

I'm currently on my third Eris. My first had the silent bug extremely bad and I upgraded to 2.1v3 instead of OTA, so I got a new one. The 2nd one was perfect at first; it came with 1.5 stock, but soon I found that it had a broken trackball and clearly HTC didn't fix that before shipping it to me. So after further complaining I got a 3rd Eris, which works fine although it shipped with 2.1, which I suspect is really 2.1v3 not OTA, but no definite way to check. I've recently decided I wanted to root my phone, but discovered that my HBOOT version is 1.49 which from what I read can't be rooted? My question is is it possible to a root a phone on this HBOOT version and also does this mean that I'm probably running 2.1v3?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis mostly applies to folks who have flashed the leaked ota and want to go back to legit stock. There is generally a problem with that, because we cannot use the RUU due to the upgraded Hboot (no radio has nothing to do with it).
Through my travels, I found a way to do it.
This is not without its risks, and I take no responsibility for any broken phones, knocked up cats, or homeless hamsters caused from the havoc it may wreak.
It did work for me, quite well. I was able to flash to an old RUU without issue like nothing ever happened.

Now, my instructions, which will hopefully simplify it. I take no credit for this by the way, credit is due to the original thread.
1. Download and unzip the files I have attached to this thread and put them somewhere that you can push them with adb.
2. You must used Unrevoked's latest tool to install clockwork.
3. Boot into clockwork recovery, go to partitions, and mount data.
4. Type this code...
If you've upgraded to official froyo you probably know that downgrading can be difficult, especially if you have an SLCD screen. If you did a branded upgrade (e.g. Vodafone) then the old methods won't work at all.Since current rooting methods won't work on froyo this can be a big problem.I've created a tool that will downgrade Froyo to stock 2.1. View 1 Replies View RelatedHey everybody, I've looked for an answer on here, but to no avail. I tried to root my replacement Eris with 1.5, and HBOOT 1.47. Everything was going well until it got to the point of making a recovery, which for some reason, my phone wouldn't let me do. Infuriated and frustrated, I followed the steps to go back to 1.5 to a tee. However, I miss Vlingo so much, and i went to install the OTA 2.1, and it aborted the installation. I now have HBOOT 1.49.2000, so does my phone basically think I have the 2.1v3 leak, or am I just flat-out screwed? Done multiple factory resets, etc. and they haven't helped either
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got my eris 2 weeks ago so 2.1, and it has hboot 1.49 (can someone tell me wht that is/means?) was already on it. I've found out that the hboot is why I can't root. Has anyone came up w/ a workaround yet?
I only want to root to be able to use the Eris as a hot spot for my itouch, so if there is another way to do that.
Ok this may possibly be the dumbest question asked, but how do you tell what your Hboot is? I see people saying that with 1.49 you can not root, but I rooted my phone and for some reason I remember seeing 1.49 on my phone somewhere but I can not remember.

I have been messing with my eris. I held the power and send button and as usual it checked the leak file and asked if I wanted to update. At this time I noticed a list from one to four., one thing that was listed was bootloader and another was hboot My question would there be a way to get into the 2.1 leak file and some how switch the hboot and bootloader in it with the hboot and bootloader that is on the official ota file or some other jnoot or bootloader. Then convert it back to a zip file and reinstalling it like out was a v4 leak. Sorry if this was a stupid post but just trying to help leak users or devs brainstorm a little.

The s-off spl allows you to use fastboot, and can make recovery of a "softbricked" device much easier.
Flash this like any other flashable file through recovery.
I had a legitimate problem with my Eris that I sent it back for, but was still hoping to be able to root again when I got my replacement. Turns out it has HBOOT 1.49. Any one else encounter this?

Just the minor complaints that most had.I'm currently running Plain Jane v2 with a2sd and OC. I'm clocking at 710/528, yet my phone is laggier than ever. I'm at my wits end trying to get this phone to work at a substantial speed before I go off to college. At some points my phone seems really super-snappy, but those moments are short lived.Linpack averages that my MFLOPS is about 0.96 at all times. I read that the standard for the eris is 3.0, and I'm unsure why my phone is running this slow.Does someone know some tricks, or a rom that may help my phone out? I'm dying to just have something to make my phone usable. Thanks a ton.

I have not updated the radio, flashed ROM, or changed kernel- just running stock.I have installed some root only apps and removed City ID, Twitter, and Peep.So what should I do if the expected OTA update comes through?Can I apply the update on a rooted phone? Now, before I send my Eris in, I just want to be absolutely sure there is nothing on my phone that indicates that it was rooted. Does anyone know what all they check? What can I check on it? Under settings, network, the operator name is unknown. Is that the same for stock phones? Or when I unrooted it, could that have cleared that out?

But I do miss Windows Live since I'm a hotmail user (no switch to gmail comments please).My desktop gmail through the web is set up to "Send As" my hotmail account, but if I send a new email via my phone, it sends it from my gmail username.I did a search and it was inconclusive. Does anyone know of a configuration to send new mail with the phones native email as a "Send As?"If not, does K-9 only poll gmail or is it a live sync?

I'm not confident that I did it correctly though. I am wondering if by accident I just simply upgraded my operating system to 2.1 instead. View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I rooted both mine and my wife's phone to Ivan's 1.0 (2.1 with OC). Her Market works totally fine. It's fast and loads everything and all tabs are there. Mine was sort of working at first, now it's completely come to a halt. The "top paid" tab is missing (when does finally load), most of the time it just gets stuck on "loading". I've tried clearing cache, doing a factory reset, reflashing the ROM, using the market fix (that puts the "top paid" tab back, but doesn't fix the slowless). It's just seriously broken.
Again, I've flashed the exact same ROM on mine and my wife's Eris, and hers works totally fine. I've searched for this issue on google and it seems this is a common problem, but no one has found a solution that works for me. I've tried them all, and none of them work. If I would have known rooting was going to break something so basic I possibly wouldn't have done it.
Used PdaNet in the past under the free trial without much problem, was told not to upgrade to avoid the blocking of https and to do backup with astro to save that feature.. switched to a different phone for awhile and just came back to the eris still had pdanet installed but had removed from pc and had to reinstall there.. I can log into alot of site with user/pass but not yahoo or ebay (the two I need most) When I re-installed on pc it also reinstalled on phone. Did this mess things up? WHen I go into astro the only options now are to uninstall or browse file.. Is there any way to get back to where I was? Is USB tethering an option with a rooted phone?
