HTC Eris :: 1.49.2 Hboot In Update.zip Format
Aug 2, 2010
While tested, and working on ECLIPS3's test device, this is a risky flash. Flashing this is at your own risk. If data or property loss occurs, its you fault, not mine.
The s-off spl allows you to use fastboot, and can make recovery of a "softbricked" device much easier.
Flash this like any other flashable file through recovery.

I'm trying to run TripNDroid ROM (check here), but currently that ROM on 4.2.1 doesn't support my HBOOT, 1.12.
I checked me CID, which is HTC_304, and I see it is compatible with HBOOT 1.39.
Now, I read somewhere that if I update to a more recent HBOOT I might not be able to flash some ROMs only compatible with older HBOOTs. So, should I update my HBOOT or not? If so, how?

Hey everybody, I've looked for an answer on here, but to no avail. I tried to root my replacement Eris with 1.5, and HBOOT 1.47. Everything was going well until it got to the point of making a recovery, which for some reason, my phone wouldn't let me do. Infuriated and frustrated, I followed the steps to go back to 1.5 to a tee. However, I miss Vlingo so much, and i went to install the OTA 2.1, and it aborted the installation. I now have HBOOT 1.49.2000, so does my phone basically think I have the 2.1v3 leak, or am I just flat-out screwed? Done multiple factory resets, etc. and they haven't helped either

I root my phone, installed Fourth Wave without a hiccup. I do my co-workers phone the same way and now he is stuck in HBoot. Radio won't update either. I removed the battery for 20min and tried, no luck. Goes right into HBoot. Anyway to get the phone back to normal?

I got my eris 2 weeks ago so 2.1, and it has hboot 1.49 (can someone tell me wht that is/means?) was already on it. I've found out that the hboot is why I can't root. Has anyone came up w/ a workaround yet?
I only want to root to be able to use the Eris as a hot spot for my itouch, so if there is another way to do that.

Ok this may possibly be the dumbest question asked, but how do you tell what your Hboot is? I see people saying that with 1.49 you can not root, but I rooted my phone and for some reason I remember seeing 1.49 on my phone somewhere but I can not remember.

So I downloaded the unroot file, installed it onto the SD card (formatted by the phone), and when I load Hboot it finds no update. It just brings up the normal menu (fastboot, clear storage, simlock, etc.).

I have been messing with my eris. I held the power and send button and as usual it checked the leak file and asked if I wanted to update. At this time I noticed a list from one to four., one thing that was listed was bootloader and another was hboot My question would there be a way to get into the 2.1 leak file and some how switch the hboot and bootloader in it with the hboot and bootloader that is on the official ota file or some other jnoot or bootloader. Then convert it back to a zip file and reinstalling it like out was a v4 leak. Sorry if this was a stupid post but just trying to help leak users or devs brainstorm a little.

I'm currently on my third Eris. My first had the silent bug extremely bad and I upgraded to 2.1v3 instead of OTA, so I got a new one. The 2nd one was perfect at first; it came with 1.5 stock, but soon I found that it had a broken trackball and clearly HTC didn't fix that before shipping it to me. So after further complaining I got a 3rd Eris, which works fine although it shipped with 2.1, which I suspect is really 2.1v3 not OTA, but no definite way to check. I've recently decided I wanted to root my phone, but discovered that my HBOOT version is 1.49 which from what I read can't be rooted? My question is is it possible to a root a phone on this HBOOT version and also does this mean that I'm probably running 2.1v3?

I see these components discussed all the time on xda-developers. I have a vague understanding of what they are and how they're related to each other, but it's not perfectly clear. For example, the radio seems to be a lot more than just the radio. I have a good understanding of the basic ideas as a Linux user and software developer. To kick things off, let me present my current understanding. I could be way off on some things:"Radio" - I'm not sure if this runs before the bootloader or after HBOOT is the bootloader, the first thing that runs when you boot up your phone. Like your regular Linux bootloader, it lets you boot off of different partitions. There are multiple partitions on the system, at least one for HBOOT (maybe? or is it in some kind of MBR type of area?), recovery, system and data. All of these partitions are in the system's "ROM" which is not really ROM it's actually NVRAM or flash or whatever. Hence, each of these areas can be independently flashed.Recovery is a partition you can boot into. It's originally meant to be a kind of "recovery" mode and so offers a base for hacking. This is typically re-flashed so as to follow further modifications. From the recovery image, you can also access the sdcard which is useful for fetching update.zip files etc. update.zip - these are updates that can be applied from a custom recovery image. It seems like these updates can contain more or less arbitrary code, but I'm not clear on how they get applied or where they get flashed to or applied to./system - gets mounted read-only (what control this?) unless you do some hacking Where does the kernel sit? Is there a different one in the recovery versus the regular image? which parts form a custom ROM like CyanogenMod? What is the NAND and what does it mean to unlock the NAND? What is an RUU? SPL? Where do the WiFi and 3G radio images sit? PC36IMG.zip? PRI?I've seen some of this explained elsewhere but I don't understand how they all fit together.

Just a quick question. Can an Eris with HBOOT version 1.46 be rooted? I know v1.47 can, but I couldn't find another mention of 1.46 (and search won't allow that search term).
This is for my fiancee's phone that I bought her back in November. She is willing to swap Eris's with me since both mine and the replacement I just got are v1.49.

Anyone know why I would be getting the errors below. The message below is showing up in the Console view, and I'm getting a "Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1".
My app has been working quite well for some time, and I just tried to update the SDK and DDMS to 0.9.9, and now it won't build.
I've done a search for the CharBuffer class and don't find any matches in my files, but I am using several API's (BUMP, C2DM, Admob). I definitely don't use any of the core-library in my code. If the error message is correct, I just can't quite figure out how to tell which API is the problem without almost wiping out my code base, or starting a new project and copying a few files at a time.
Oh... but the two files at the bottom of the file are missing android-6sdk.properties and android-5sdk.properties. Anyone know where I find them?
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but so far, no joy :).
CODE:.........................
In something other than a core library. It is likely that you have attempted to include in an application the core library (or a part thereof) from a desktop virtual machine. This will most assuredly not work. At a minimum, it jeopardizes the compatibility of your app with future versions of the platform. It is also often of questionable legality.
If you really intend to build a core library -- which is only appropriate as part of creating a full virtual machine distribution, as opposed to compiling an application -- then use the "--core-library" option to suppress this error message.
If you go ahead and use "--core-library" but are in fact building an application, then be forewarned that your application will still fail to build or run, at some point. Please be prepared for angry customers who find, for example, that your application ceases to function once they upgrade their operating system. You will be to blame for this problem.
If you are legitimately using some code that happens to be in a core package, then the easiest safe alternative you have is to repackage that code. That is, move the classes in question into your own package namespace. This means that they will never be in conflict with core system classes. If you find that you cannot do this, then that is an indication that the path you are on will ultimately lead to pain, suffering, grief, and lamentation.

I tried a few different google searches on the subject and most of the results were about playing different video format, not recording. I'm wondering if there is a way to change the factory default video recording format to something like generic avi or mpeg formats?

It is my first smartphone. I put in all my contacts manually so that I could get the feel of the phone and learn the basics. On all my previous stupid phones, the contact phone number automatically formated to 901-555-1212. With the Eris it is 9015551212. Anyway to change this? I have searched other threads with the same question but no one ever replies. I have search the net with no luck. Should I just take it that there is no way to automatically change this. I have gone through and put in the extra ticks between the numbers manually but that is a pain in the arse.

So I see that the Eris is supposed to support MP4 format. I converted a DVD to MP4 and put it on a friends Motorola Droid and it worked great, put it on my Eris and I could see the icon but it said it could not play the video, like it was an unsupported format? I know the Droid is using Android 2.0 and the Eris is using 1.5, anyone else play MP4 movies on their Eris?

So my I randomly got a notification tonight saying my SD card was corrupted. My Eris told me I had to format it, so I tried through my phone, and nothing happened. When I connected it to the computer, I tried formatting it through there and when I click on format (Using Windows 7 32-bit), it tells me there is no drive at drive F: Does anyone have any ideas? I used to have a microSD converter so I could use it in a card reader but I don't know where its gone too, and don't know if it would help anyways.

I had mounted my sd card to transfer files between pc (XP) and eris.
i correctly unmounted from pc (safely remove hardware) and then stopped file sharing on eris.
i took the card out and put in a different one (i don't have a card reader and was trying to transfer some stuff).
when i tried to put the original card back in, my finger slipped as i was pushing it in and it got like halfway in and then popped back out.
the eris saw this as an unsafe removal.
now, it keeps telling me "the sd card is blank or using an unsupported .." something. if i tap on the notification, it just takes to me a window to format it. i keep saying yes to format, but it never formats.
i've tried formatting from settings and tried mounting it again and formatting from the pc. when i do that, the pc says that the drive size is 1.08 TB (?!?!?). this is the 8GB sd card that comes with the eris. and it also won't let me format.
what gives? i've tried taking it out and putting it back in. it keeps saying unsafe removal but the option to unmount is grayed out and i can't choose it.
i tried taking it out, turning off the eris, putting the card in and turning back on. still nothing.
what's going on here?

The 0 added to format the string always coming as '.' (dot). Can anyone know ,from where the number patterns are getting loaded in Android? I gone thorough the code, Its related the following file, androiddalviklibcoreicusrcmainjavacomibmicu4jniutil Resources.java ->localeData.numberPattern. How the pattern for particular locale is loaded, What could be the problem for the above?

Is there anyone that can give me step by step instructions on how to use hboot to install files from the root directory on my sd card. Ex.
This is what I did: I downloaded Clockworkmod 2.5.0.5, renamed the Clockworkmod zip to PB31IMG.zip, and placed it on the root of my SD card. Power-off, and boot into HBOOT (pressing the down vol+power button).
Then I downloaded Superuser 2.3.6.1 and place it on the SD card, use Clockworkmod Recovery and choose "Install .zip from SD" option.
Restarted my phone, and there's Superuser."
I have tried going through hboot and never see these files once I have installed them on the SD card.
