May 10, 2010I keep my phone on vibrate most of the time and I've found that when I'm on the phone talking to someone and I get a new email, the phone vibrates so I can hear it, which is great. But the caller on the other end hears it too and they always end up saying 'WTF was that noise'? How to turn this off so callers don't hear the vibrate mode too?

Nov 24, 2009For historical reasons (from when I had a LG VX-6000 before I upgraded to a smart phone), I have several email notifications that are sent to my phone by way of <my number>@vtext.com. This is the Verizon email-to-SMS gateway that has been around forever.
The default 'Messaging' app is smart enough to extract the email address from these messages and look it up in my Contacts list, so it shows up as from the proper contact.
I have been looking for an app to alert me with a different tone depending on who sent me the message. I have tried 'Missed Call' and 'Ringo'. Both will let me assign an alert tone to a contact, but when one of these SMS messages is received, both 'Missed Call' and 'Ringo' show the message as from '6245' (which is 'MAIL' transposed with a telephone keypad). As a result, it won't look up the proper alert tone because it won't extract the sender's email address.
Is there a better solution? I could have these messages sent to my Gmail instead, but the Gmail app won't play different tones depending on the sender.

Nov 18, 2009I'm sure this can be done but I'm not finding it. Coming from BB World, I would like to be able to get audible notifications of Facebook wall postings, etc. I know the only way to get this is by an email which I'm fine with. But is there any way to get a "sms" type of notification for just that email? I set the email up as a contact and I see where you can add a ringtone but I really don't want a ringtone, just a small "sms" tone, if you will.

HTC Incredible :: Mic - Received Call Could Hear The Caller But They Could Not Hear
May 13, 2010Just got my Incredible and love it. I charged it up last night for the second time. Turned it on this morning and all looked good. Received a call this morning and I could hear the caller but they could not hear me. Several more incoming calls and the same issue. Then I made some calls...I could hear the person but they could not hear me. Finally turned phone off and back on and it is now fine. Mute was not on.....anyone know what this could be?

I have set up the Internet carrier APNs (HSDPA, EDGE, 3G etc) and I wonder if it is possible that Android asks me for confirmation when connecting to one? I don't like the idea of changing the APN name to cheat/workaround it (to make it impossible to connect by setting up non-existing APN), I like to see what connection possibilities are around me. When I'm at home I have a WiFi and also would like to be sure the whole transfer is being done by WiFi, not EDGE. With each connection request confirmation I'd be sure I have it under control.

Nov 26, 2010I've done a NAND backup, and I downloaded the full pay version of titanium backup and have frozen the bloatware and backed up everything on TB as well. so, now wondering how to do the fun stuff.
1. Should I try a new rom? If so which one is a good place to start for a noob? I am just looking mainly for something cool, clean, hopefully increase speed, eliminate lag, and has some cool stuff built in so I dont have to figure out how to do that stuff myself.Also I would want a ROM that still allows 4g etc.. and all the good stock stuff
2. Now that I am rooted, how do I backup things to the SD card? Previously I used the appstosd app from the market, shoudl I just keep using that? Anything that I should NOT transfer to SD, or can I just move everythign that it allows me to?
Android :: Runnable Posted Successfully But Not Run / Fix It?
Nov 3, 2010In an existing Android project I've encountered the following piece of code (where I inserted the debugging litter) code...
with not a trace of the messages from the Runnable. So appearantly the Runnable doesn't run(), although img.post() returns true. Pulling the ImageView in onCreate() and declaring it final doesn't help.
I'm clueless. Simply setting the bitmap directly, while blocking the UI thread, does fix things, but I want to get things right. Does anybody understand what's going on here?
(ps. this was all observed on an Android 1.6 phone and android-3 sdk)

1. Unlocked d bootloader (followed instructions on htcdev)
2.Flashed twrp recovery using d All-in-one-kit-for-Htc-Desire-X
3.booted in d recovery...installed d superuser manually included in d All-in-one-kit-for-htc-desire-x as the perm root wasnt working..
but d device isnt rooted...moreover d app superuser su says "cant find d su binary" i want to install a custom rom badly..

Feb 10, 2009I'm trying to implement my own ActivityGroup to mimic TabActivity (without tabs) but I'm having trouble "closing" activities.My ActivityGroup has a ViewFlipper, each housing a separate activity's window.When I attempt to switch "activities" I call ViewFlipper.setDisplayedChild() on the view of choice.However, when I scroll up and down in the view of choice, the OTHER non-visible activities' views are responding to these actions, so it seems like I'm not successfully "switching" the activity fully.When I use a TabActivity to run this code, this doesn't happen; when I scroll up and down in one activity, I don't see any event firing from any of the other activities. I'm wondering what does TabActivity do to handle these activities as separate, individual entities?

HTC Eris :: Notification Bar Will Display A Message That It Was Not Successfully Installed
Sep 16, 2010I've been rooted for about two weeks now. Originally, I was using the kaosfroyo rom v34, just now I changed to the nonsensikal vanilla 5.4. With both roms I'm getting the same error. It will download an app with no problem. However, as the app is installing, the notification bar will display a message that it was not successfully installed.It did it first with the kaos rom; I switched to nonsensikal thinking it would help, but no such luck. Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong?
