HTC EVO 4G :: Unable To Flashing ROM
Oct 14, 2010
I can't seem to be able to flash a ROM to my evo. I used Unrevoked, backed up with Titanium, then backed up with ROM manager. I tried downloading ROM's from my Mac and putting them in the root of my sd card to no avail. I thought maybe something on the Mac was messing it up so I downloaded straight from ROM manager..same thing. I went to "install from sd card" and checked both boxes, it starts to install for a second then stops. I click reboot and it reboots into the stock rooted ROM. I probably tried 6 or 7 times now. I searched everywhere and just can't find an answer

ive decided finally to bite the bullet, having a desire on 707.6 not being able to update OTA maybe due to the great firewall of china or HTC either way, no matter how many times i got to settings > about phone > check for updates, .....so the only option here is to flash a new rom....im not going to wait any more while everyone has Froyo...
How To: Load a Custom ROM on the HTC Desire | TheUnlockr
now here is my question upon looking at roms it states i need to also install a radio as well, this guide does not really tell me how to go about that (yes im very green at this) can someone please enlighten me because i clearly do not know something im supposed to common sense would dictate that i would repeat the install zip step and install the radio...but i know sometimes computers do not use common sense

I have an eris flashed with PB00IMG and I believe I have root access. I am able to remove apps through terminal. I cannot get the google maps to update. I have removed maps.apk, htcnavi.apk and com.google.android.maps.jar. I have removed these separately and all together. I have been able to get it to update before, but I reflashed the PB00IMG because I could not get youtube videos to play without the stock browser. I got the youtube videos working again but cannot remember how to get the maps to update again. I wanted to try flashing different roms. I have downloaded a couple, placed them on the sdcard, and booted but I cannot get them to boot.

Last week, I flashed my LG Nexus 4 (16GB) phone with stock Android 4.4 (Official Image), before that I was on CyanogenMod 10.1.3 Stable.
Now, for some reason I didn't like the stock 4.4 and tried to Flash back my CyanogenMod 10.1.3 from CWM "Install ZIP" but the problem I'm facing is that it CyanogenMod doesn't boot, hangs on "Spiral Splash Screen". Then I tried Flashing CM 10.0 stable, still loops into boot forever and at times boots (after 15-20 minutes of booting on spiral splash screen) and doesn't recognise SIM card, Camera, Storage, WIFI or anything.
Then after getting fed up with this I tried flashing MIUI V5. This also takes a 15-20 to boot and fails to recognise - SIM, WiFi, Camera etc.
So lastly like a loser I flashed back my Android 4.4 it works fine.
I've my boot-loader in unlocked state.
and Yes before flashing CM or MIUI, I did - wipe data/factory, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache from CWM Recovery.
So I want to get back into CyanogenMod 10.1 stable.

I rooted using this method from 2.2 and in the thread they say that you need to flash something else to use cm6
[GUIDE] How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G - xda-developers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752832
This is the thread that is for what i need i was just wondering if something goes wrong if i get stuck in the bootloader how would i make my h-boot back to what it is now instead of the 76 or whatever i need for cm6 to work? and will i need to flash back to a different version of h-boot to flash back to fresh or other roms?

I have rooted my Desire. Now want to get the FroYo update. I know this can be done by flashing a ROM or can I get the OTA update if I go to phone>software update? But 100s of questions...
1. How do I get the official ROM from HTC? (Is official ROM called stock ROM?)
2. What are the differences between leedroid rom or Modaco rom and official ROM
3. I also want the A2SD feature. Would this be available on leedroid or modaco rom? What is the partitioning to do with this?
4. If something goes wrong, can I revert back to old version?
5. I took backup of all my data and apps using Titanium and my backup. But what is nandroid?
6. Most of my backup is stored on my SD card so if a full wipe is needed (what is full wipe and how do i do it?) will I lost all my information, settings and apps?
And I dont understand most of the features listed under different ROMs. Do I need to be aware of them?
Also with the new custom ROM will I get the OTA updates in the future without waiting for the official release by the career?
I probably will have more questions but will be really grateful if I could get the answers for the above. I thought development with the android devices are user friendly but they sure arent if you are just a basic end user like poor me.

Have a Desire running stock Vodafone 2.2 at the moment. Made a gold card a few months back (a day before before Voda got their act together with their unbloated 2.2) and now finally got round to rooting it last week (unrevoked) and have been looking around for a rom to flash since then.
Have a couple of questions around apps built into roms :
1) Stripping built in apps, does it make more space for your own apps? Seem to remember reading somewhere that it doesn't - different partitions or something. I'm sort of toying with a Sense rom but wondering if the space saved with a vanilla rom has any real point. Space is my priority for rooting - a2sd+ is the only reason I'm doing it to be honest (okay apart from an insatiable desire to tinker). Is this just a performance thing?
2) Apps added into the rom - lots have Ti Backup etc. I assume there's little point unless the app doesn't get updated much or you don't mind flashing a new version often? An update from the market will just go into user space.

Ive rooted my phone with unrevoked, and i think im about ready to flash myns 2.2 rom with kings 11 kernal. before i go ahead id like to make sure all of my ducks are in a row... ive done a nand backup with clockwork mod recovery, synced all my apps also. saved my contacts on my sd card. ive been reading threads and watching tutorial videos all week, id like to ask a couple newb questions first....
1)do i have to partition my sd card before i put the rom and kernal on it?
2)do i need to download the stock rom and kernal incase i want to revert, or should the nand backup do the trick?
3)do i need to flash google apps, or will myns rom come with it?
4)do i have to delete the rom and kernal zips from my sd card once ive flashed them?

Loving the Jager 1.1 ROM. Just wondering if it is ok to due the OTA that keeps popping up? It is the 3.6 MB update that I believe dropped a while ago. I have just kept pressing install later. Any one know if it is ok to do this OTA update?

1) Instead of using ROM manager/clockwork(?), how can I wipe the cache/dalvik manually? What exactly do I need to do?
2) When I flashed RLS3, I followed the steps in the thread "Rooting for dummies." All went well, except I had to completely set everything back up. Is there a 'magic' button I can push that will restore all my settings after flashing Myn's RLS4?

I've rooted my Desire, and am currently using the deFrost FroYo ROM.I'm trawling through and looking at different ROM options.I currently have all of my applications installed on the SD Card.If I take out the SD Card with the installed apps, and use a 'fresh' SD card to flash the new ROM, will putting the original SD card in the phone retain all of the apps and just work 'as is'? Or do I still need to back them all up somehow?

I recently rooted my Evo using UnRevoked 3.2 and flashed Fresh 3.3 on it. I'm generally happy with the results, the upgrade seemed to fix some problems with random reboots and screen locks I was having on stock (I'm thinking that moving a lot of apps to SD may have helped, as I seemed to be always low on memory).
In any case, I do think the phone is a bit "laggy" after the update. I downloaded FPS2D and checked my FPS, seem to average right around 50fps with std dev of 9. It seems like many people are getting much better screen performance using the custom netarchy 4.1.9 kernel. I'd like to give that a try but I have a couple of basic questions...
1. I will do a nandroid backup and Titanium before I flash, but I noticed that restoring apps last time was a drag...I use FolderOrganizer and it's a pain to get them all set up the way I had them. Does flashing the kernel wipe your phone clean? How much app/Sense restoring would I have to do assuming all goes well? I'm assuming that flashing the kernel has little to no effect on installed apps or Sense screen layouts...he cried hopefully...
2. I'm assuming here that Fresh 3.3 is compatible with netarchy 4.1.9, correct? Also, I saw an indication that netarchy 5.0 may be around the corner...is it better to wait? Or is reflashing a kernel that easy so there's no reason to wait?
3. It looks like an overclocking app is included in the netarchy kernel? Is it necessary to tweak the profiles, and if so what are the recommended tweaks for best performance? I have some experience with this coming from an overclocked Palm Pre, but I care a lot more about my Evo...I don't want to hurt it!
4. Battery performance is less of a concern than screen performance for me...I have chargers everywhere. Still, I'd like to get the best battery performance I can. I believe there may be "rogue" services on my phone that are eating up the battery (for example, I use Exchange ActiveSync and I turned it off recently because sync problems were causing it to stay on in the background). What's a good way (or app) to identify rogue apps/services and kill them?

I have the HTC EVO 4g and used the unrEVOked method to ROOT my phone. I got ROM Manager and Titanium Backup Pro for all my backup/flashing needs. I downloaded cyanogen mod 6.0 (stable release I believe) and when I approve the phone to go ahead and backup/wipe my phone, it just goes to the bootloader screen. No code runs down, nothing happens. I rebooted and I still have the same ROM installed, the froyo 2.2 ROM. Any suggestions to where I went amiss? Also if I'm using the incorrect lingo sorry, I'm new to hacking phones and such

I am roooted and currently running CM6.1, loving the speed and the extra battery life. I now however want to get my apps to run on my SD card, I am think of using darktremor to do the job but wonder if someone could help with some questions.
Will the partitioning of the card and formatting it wipe the Goldcard section of the SD card?
Do I need to put all the stuff I take off the SD card back onto it, I want the music and photos back on but there is a lot of stuff hung over from when I installed every app on the market?
Reading through everything I can find it seems like a 512mb partition seems about right, I believe there is a swap and cache part involved, any ideas on what to make these?

I rooted my Evo Froyo 2.2 using unrevoked 3.2.1 I Installed Titanium and ROM Manger Premium and Wireless tether.2.0.5-pre9. Id like to flash the new OTA rooted myn-OTA_Supersonic_3.29.651.5-DEODEXED.zip ROM to get the better frame rate. I have never flashed before (not true, in the 70s in collegeerr, skip that) But I still have several unanswered questions.
1) I understand that even though this 3.29.651.5 is an upgraded ROM, I still have to flash it. If I were not rooted I could take the OTA upgrade from Sprint. So do I need to do a data wipe and wipe cache and dalvik cache using ROM Manger before I flash this new ROM version?
2) Someone told me I would use to Titanium Backup to backup all apps and settings, do a wipe, flash the rom, then restore using Titanium Backup If I do a wipe and then flash, and all apps are gone, how could I restore from Titanium? Isnt that gone too? Will restoring from Titanium also restore ROM Manager and the Wireless tether.2.0.5-pre9?
3) I also got this response, Also, don't forget to flash the new radios that came with the OTA Are these not included in the 3.29.651.5 rom? Do I have to hunt these up separately and flash them separately or with the 3.29.651.5 rom?
4) I have removed some bloatware programs such as NFL and NASCAR from the apps using Titanium. Ive read where some say they had to replace these to flash this update. Is that true? What happens if I flash and do not have those apps present?
As much as Ive read, I still see conflicting advice on how to proceed. When I read instructions on something, I usually see another post 5 or more down from someone else that then says, Oh dont forget to do So if anyone can help with these, Id appreciate it. I may develop new questions after this, but Ill be a step closer to having the answers and my first root.

Just flashed with Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo. Went very smoothly. I used Titanium back up (free) and Astro file manager to back everything up.Take note this is my second time flashing a rom. First time went fine. I have restored all data and apps. Everything is restored perfectly except my text messages which i need the most. Don't worry i did a nandroid back up before even flashing. I thinking i did all the restoring correct. Whats the deal lol? I would hate to restore back to the android back up and redo the whole flashing process again. Any alternatives?

I'm running a branded Vodafone desire with software 1.24. I am trying to debrand by flashing the rom and then updating to froyo. I have created the working gold card but when I run:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
It starts the update but then I get a usb connection error (171) and I then have to disconnect, take the battery out and boot to recover my phone. Has anybody encountered this and is there anything i can do get around this? My original only slightly branded desire died by drowning and this is what the insurance company gave me as a replacement! Ooh forgot to say I am running windows 7 x64.
