HTC EVO 4G : Possible Link With Sluggish Performance

Jun 17, 2010

I've been experiencing slow scrolling and overall sluggish performance like others. I got rid of the big sense clock/weather widget because it was covering my new wallpaper. Now things are moving MUCH smoother. I even make less mistakes while using the on-screen keyboard. I also switched to a still background and things got faster. Anyone else have a similar experience?

The only large widgets I'm using is favorites and bookmarks.

HTC Magic :: Sluggish Performance / Poor Battery

Sep 12, 2009

I just got an HTC Magic from Rogers a few days ago and I'm noticing that it's running REALLY slow. The lag is unreal when I text and the battery dies very quickly. I have TWO widgets open (calendar and Google search) and the transition from sliding screens is sluggish. I rooted my phone a few days ago. Could this be the problem? Has anyone else experienced this? I heard that Sense UI is supposed to cause problems, but I haven't heard anything regarding Cupcake.

Android :: How Does Emulator Performance Compare To Real Device Performance?

May 23, 2010

I'm looking into writing an Android game, tough I don't curerntly own an Android device. For those of you who own a device, how does the performance on the emulator relate to real device performance? I'm especially interested in graphics related tasks.This obviously depends on both the machine running the emulator, and the specific device in question, but I'm talking rough numbers here.This question is a duplicate, but since that post is heavily outdated, I figured it's irrelevant by now.

Android :: Webview Anchor Link - Jump Link - Not Working

Jun 14, 2010

I have a WebView in my Android App that is loading an HTML string using the loadDataWithBaseURL() method. The problem is that local anchor links (<a href="#link">...) are not working correctly. When the link is clicked, it becomes highlighted, but does not scroll to the corresponding anchor.

This also does not work if I use the WebView's loadUrl() method to load a page that contains anchor links. However, if I load the same URL in the browser, the anchor links do work.

Is there any special handling required to get these to work for a WebView?

I am using API v4 (1.6).

There isn't much to the code, here are the relevant parts of some test code I've been working with:

HTC : Turning On 4G Makes My EVO Sluggish

Sep 1, 2010

My apologies if this has already been discussed in a previous thread, but I tried to search and didn't see it mentioned...

It seems here lately that whenever I turn on my 4G radio (I'm in a 4G area), my phone becomes very sluggish. Browsing and pinch-to-zoom using the Dolphin Browser becomes stuttered, swiping between home screens is delayed, pretty much anything I do is slower. I've killed all apps, but still get the same results. Once I turn the 4G off, the phone works fine. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue. It seems to be counter-productive to have a faster data speed when it makes your phone slower, basically canceling each other out.

HTC 4G : Why EVo Running Sluggish After Recent Upgrade

Sep 27, 2010

I noticed my EVO is running sluggish (2 second delay when touching screen) after the recent upgrade (not 2.2), but the most recent upgrade. I'm trying to figure out why? Right about the time I upgraded the software, 4G was becoming more available in my area. so I'm trying to figure out why my EVO seems to be slower in regards to previous upgrade/4G. Those are the only things I can think of that would cause this and of course, I'm probably wrong.

Sprint Hero : HTC Just Started Getting Really Really Sluggish

Sep 30, 2010

I loved my hero when I first got it and even more so after the 2.1 update but it's just started getting really REALLY sluggish..

I've been ruthless in uninstalling all the apps I don't really need and have recently done a factory reset (after having to change from a googlemail to a gmail account before I could re-access the market) and I also use quick app cache cleaner and advanced task killer.. but it's still so ridiculously slow that i'm contemplating spending ridiculous amounts on an unlocked iphone 4.. Can anyone give me some advice to put some more life back into my phone?

My phone is on Orange UK, 2.1, never rooted and currently showing 90MB of internal phone storage.

KitKat 4.4 :: Samsung Galaxy S4 Being Sluggish?

Apr 4, 2014

I upgraded my firmware to 4.4.2 kitkat and now my GS4 seems to run abit sluggish. I get some delay when entering and exiting apps and also some delay when you hold the home button to open the task manager. Also when I type sometimes what I type takes awhile to come up and also takes some time for the phone to react to the buttons I press. Is this an issue with the new update. I have the Rogers version of the Gs4. Also if I have to end up restoring my phone, software because I used Samsung Kies in the past and found that when you restore your apps back to your phone. Samsung Kies does not restore your save data for the apps.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Stock Launcher Sluggish In 2.0d

Apr 8, 2010

Running 2.0d for several days now and love it. Very quick and stable when using sense ui, however when I switch to the stock launcher some very strange stuff happens.

The thing takes 3-6 seconds to open from sleep, it just hangs on the background image with no icons or nothing. Then after that finally loads there is an even longer delay when you try to pull up the programs.

After you do this the first time the launcher becomes very quick and normal, that is until you put the phone back to sleep, when you put the phone back to sleep and re-open the whole process repeats.

This does not happen with sense, so is autokiller, killing launcher causing it to completely reload everytime? Is there a way to switch it where it kills sense and lets launcher run?

Android :: Media Player Sluggish To Play Sounds

Mar 31, 2009

I have an Activity that plays a brief OGG "pop" sound effect when bubbles pop. To keep it fast and to ensure I can play several pops, I create four MediaPlayer instances. I synchronize access to a pool of instances, so I can play up to four pops at once. Once a sound completes, I call seekTo(0) and return the MediaPlayer instance to my pool.

Here is a rough sketch of the code:
// when the activity resumes... for (int i=0; i<4; i++) {
MediaPlayer mp = MediaPlayer.create(context, R.raw.pop);
mp.setOnCompletionListener(this);
mp.setVolume(1f, 1f); players.add(mp); // put into a pool of available players }

HTC Desire : Init Process With Busy Loop - Sluggish Phone

Sep 23, 2010

(HTC Desire running 2.2) Sometimes the init process enters a busy loop, consuming all CPU time. This has happened to me three or four times now. When it happens, Android System Info shows 100% CPU usage and if you run top in a terminal emulator, you can see that it's the init process eating up the CPU.

This makes the phone real slow and the only cure I know of is a reboot.I was going to check out the logs while the init was looping, but I forgot. I don't know how to repeat this - today it happened when I exitted VLC Stream and Convert, but it happened before I even installed this application.

I think this happened before the 2.2 upgrade as well and my son said his Xperia X10 eats the battery real fast sometimes - so maybe the same problem exists in Android 1.6 already.

HTC EVO 4G :: Poor 4 G Performance?

Jul 13, 2010

Am I the only one, or is there a problem with the EVO and 4G speeds? In the Houston Area, I get anywhere from around 600 kb/s to 2600 kb/s speed. In most all cases, the 3G speed is faster than the 4G. At home, I average around 700 kb/s with 2-4 bars signal strength showing. Tech support is working on this with me and trying to determine if it's a phone problem, or tower problems. I had a chance today to journey around the area within about a 10 mile distance, thus insuring it changed towers. Service stinks on 4g, to say the least. Clearwire tells Sprint Tech Support that the tower for my home has low use, and good throughput. If the tower is good, and the software on the tower, then there may be a HTC EVO problem of some kind as this is the same on 3 different HTC EVO's purchased within 2 days of each other.
