HTC EVO 4G :: Multiple Nandroid Backups Of Different ROM-kernel Combinations?

Sep 8, 2010

I just rooted my phone and i'd like to play with different ROMs and kernels. I'm currently using Fresh 3.2 and the netarch-toast kernel. Just a few questions though:

1. Can i make multiple nandroid backups?

2. Is using the recovery method with AMON the best way to make nandroid backups?

3. is restoring a nandroid backup like going back in time to the exact same state i had my phone prior to making the backup?

HTC Eris :: Restoring Nandroid Backups

Jul 10, 2010

I have a question about restoring nandroid backups. I have quite a few ROMs saved as backups, for switching if I want to try something else. I have White Widow 4.4 installed right now, and am apparently stuck with it since when trying to roll back to Aloysius or anything else. When I go to restore a back up, after wiping dalvik/data, I get this error. Error : run 'nandroid-mobile.shrestore' via adb! What the heck are they talking about? I hope this isn't something simple and stupid, but I am out to sea right now with no access to my computer. Please assist! Thanks guys! Also, WW4.4 rules.

General :: Nandroid Backups Obsolete After ROM Update?

Nov 13, 2012

4.2 of Jelly Bean update could be imminent for my Nexus 7, and I'm wondering about what and how to backup before the update. The question I think is a general android one though... which is why I'm posting it here.

This was going to be a question about factory reset... but reading other posts I think I now understand that factory reset just deletes data/cache, so I think any time you do that it's just gonna return the device to a clean ROM state without changing the ROM. (whatever flavour/version ROM is)

When a ROM update is applied (either official or manually flashed), I guess it wipes everything, is it like a disk format or something like that? I have installed CWM recovery and rooted my device, I think the update will unroot it, but will the CWM recovery still be loaded?

And then, what backup should I take before the update... I think a Titanium Backup is a must, I understand how that works. But a Nandroid backup too? Or is that more like taking a disk image, would that be useless to restore after the ROM has been updated? And if so, does that mean any old Nandroid backups should be discarded?

Once the new update to 4.2 is installed, is it advisable to take a Nandroid backup immediately, or better to download the stock 4.2 image and keeping it as a starting point? (does this amount to the same thing?) I guess this is where a factory reset would return it to stock (providing I haven't moved anything to the system apps)?

Or is it possible/better to use a Nandroid backup as a point in time image of everything that's been installed on the device after adding back all the apps etc? I guess that leads me to wonder if the Nandroid backup is needed at all if I'm going with the Titanium Backups...

General :: Xperia Arc - Recovery Mode Nandroid Backups (after Rooting / Flashing)

Jun 29, 2013

I flashed + rooted (strangely in that order, which means I must have rooted my phone ages ago.. and then locked my bootloader after flashing..?)...

I do have Rom manager installed... but I don't quite recall how I ended up flashing the stock rom onto the phone..
Anyways, as I did seem to reset my phone, I upgraded all the apk packs and I'm pretty happy with the speed upgrade + ext2 internal space expansion.

As I now want to create a nandroid backup, so I can always come back to my current status, when I want a clean reinstall..!

My main question is that as I seem to have skipped creating a CWM recovery... if I do so now, will I loose all my data and go back to the basic stock rom?

The problem I'm facing right now is that I'm unable to boot into the recovery mode using either "adb reboot recovery" or the power on + vol buttons / menu button. (which means that I don't have the recovery mode installed.....)

So.... will I loose my current upgrades + phone settings (reset into factory mode), if I flash the recovery mode?

HTC EVO 4G :: Possible To Save "scenes" In LauncherPro / Multiple Backups?

Nov 23, 2010

I've been experimenting with LauncherPro and want the ability to try out a couple home setups, wallpapers, icon arrangements, etc. I LOVE the HTC Sense feature that allows you to save "scenes," name them and open them at any time.

Is it possible to somehow save "scenes" while using LauncherPro? I noticed in the preferences that there is a home settings backup option (with the caveat that widgets will not be saved and have to be reloaded) but it does NOT appear that MULTIPLE, DIFFERENT backups can be saved in LauncherPro.

If there are no "scenes" available in LauncherPro, is there a way to do something with the LauncherPro backup file??...to rename and save it and then bring it up to reload a different LauncherPro configuration anytime I want?

I looked through the LauncherPro_backup folder and there does NOT seem to be a single "backup" file that I can rename to accomplish the above. Perhaps I overlooked it?

Android :: Listview Custom Row Layout - Tried Many Combinations

I am having trouble getting my layout to give me result I need, I already tried many options and it seems that I'm doing something wrong or completely missing something.

I have a listview with a custom row layout I can't seem to working although it shouldn't be complex. I need of the list row to insist of:

Icon -- title text (bigger and bold) with a short multi line text under the title -- ImageButton

My problem in most of my tests is the icon to the right usually doesn't appear, I guess my center group grows and takes all the space of the button. My last failed attempt was with a Relative Layout, didn't have too much luck with a Linear Layout either.

Here is the row XML:

Samsung Moment :: Joeys Kernel And Get Stock Kernel Back

Jun 11, 2010

where I have got right now on my phone, which is:

1. I updated to stock 2.1 using the sprint update tool.
2. I followed the video tutorial to root the phone
3. then i used joey's page (http://www.joeyconway.com/sdx/custom/index.php) to install the his kernel (joeykrim-SDX-kernel v2.0.4 (includes root)).

I have done nothing else to the phone but this and removing a couple of bloatware apps (i checked the list of permitted deletions before i removed anything.) I have not installed a new recovery..at least i dont think that I did as part of one of the other operations I performed (as an aside, i am not really sure what the custom recovery is or what it is used for, so i didnt install it...i guess i need to read up more...)

So that is where I am..but i have a couple of questions.

1) i am now having issues with my wifi connection - the signal reception is very spotty in areas where i should have atleast 2 bars of reception, and the wifi often cuts out completely....Is there any know corellation between joey's kernel and this wifi issue? I have searched the forums and have found nothing that answers this.

2) Is there an easy way to get back to the stock kernel? I have read that i can get back to stock everything by using the sprint download center where I did my original 2.1 update. But is there a way to get back to just the stock kernel without wiping the phone?

Android :: A Few Data Backups ?

Jun 30, 2010

Phone: nexus one

Love android....and love n1, but got a few issues/?'s

1) are my phones settings saved to my Gmail acct?

In SETTINGS>PRIVATE I have it set to "backup my settings".....I'm assuming this is to my Gmail account?

But after my one and only hard reset, all of my settings carried over except my text message settings.

In MESSAGING>SETTINGS>STORAGE SETTINGS I have it set to no limit to the amount of texts to save. I have one really important thread I don't want to lose. But after the hard reset, it went back to the factory default of only keeping 200. So I lost about 2 months of texts when I carried on as if the message storage settings were then same as before the hard reset.

After hard reset, I didn't lose the thread entirely. Just everything over the 200 limit. Oh well....I'm not getting em back, but I'd like to fully understand where I went wrong in my understanding of android/Google/gmail.

2) since i didnt lose the thread entirely, does this mean my texts are saved/backed up to my Gmail account? If not, where are they backed up if at all?

I'm beginning to think that this is the way it works (please correct me where I'm wrong):

- Gmail acct: saves most android phone settings, app history, contacts, email threads
- SD card: app data, pic & music data
- Phone flash memory: text threads & settings, internet bookmarks, apps
- Sim card: ?

3) Couple things....now moving forward:

Bought a new SIM card so I could get a new number/same phone.
- I want to put in new SIM
- do a hard reset
- login to my gmail
- keep my old internet bookmarks
- keep my old text threads from my old number
- keep my old settings
- re-download my old apps if necessary

How will a new SIM affect my situation/intentions?
