Android :: Listview Custom Row Layout - Tried Many Combinations

Jun 13, 2010

I am having trouble getting my layout to give me result I need, I already tried many options and it seems that I'm doing something wrong or completely missing something.

I have a listview with a custom row layout I can't seem to working although it shouldn't be complex. I need of the list row to insist of:

Icon -- title text (bigger and bold) with a short multi line text under the title -- ImageButton

My problem in most of my tests is the icon to the right usually doesn't appear, I guess my center group grows and takes all the space of the button. My last failed attempt was with a Relative Layout, didn't have too much luck with a Linear Layout either.

Here is the row XML:

Android :: Button Not Centered Vertically In LinearLayout?

Feb 3, 2010

I have a LinearLayout, which only contains one button. I want this button to be centered vertically and aligned to the right. I tried many ways, but I couldn't make this button centered vertically. It is always aligned to the top. I also tried to put a button in RelativeLayout, the button can not be centered vertically either.

The XML is as below. Is there anything wrong with this layout?

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="#E8E3E4">
<Button
android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="More" android:layout_gravity="right" />
</LinearLayout>

Android :: Resize Options Menu - Get Icons Centered?

May 2, 2010

I created a basic options menu, here an example of creating an element of me menu: menu.add(0, MENU_BACKWARD, 0, "").setIcon(R.drawable.btn_backward);

As you can see I don't want to show any text in this menu, just an icon ! But when the menu is showed, there is a "ugly" blank under the icon (the text is supposed to be there) and I want to avoid this. A least if it's possible to center the icon the options menus, it will be great.

Android :: How To Keep The Selected Item Of A ListView Vertically Centered

Nov 18, 2009

1) A ListView with many items (i.e. scrolling will occur at some point)

2) At the beginning, the selection is at the top (item #0)

3) User is scrolling down (i.e. we're not in touch mode)

4) For the first items, the selection is moving down without the list to scroll.

5) Once the selected item is reaching the middle of the list's viewport: the list starts to scroll-down.

6) Then, toward the end of the list: scrolling stops and the selection keeps moving down until the last item is reached.

It's a common feature in (keyboard-enabled) UI frameworks but I don't believe it's possible to achieve with Android, as for now... Right?

Android :: How To Write Centered Multi Colored Text To Canvas

Sep 10, 2010

I am writing to a canvas from a thread.

public void draw(Canvas canvas) {
Paint p = new Paint();
p.setAntiAlias(true);
p.setTextSize(30);
p.setColor(Color.WHITE);
p.setTextAlign(Paint.Align.CENTER);
canvas.drawText("Centered", xCentre, yCentre, p);
}

My problem start when I have a multi colored SpannableStringBuilder which I want to write to the canvas, and I have no idea how to do this. SpannableStringBuilder has a drawText() method which I have been unable to use. Or is there some other method to write a string to a canvas where some of the letters have a different color?

Android :: Gridview To Scroll Horizontally?

Also I have question on performance issues on how horizontal scroll view works.

I have to show 1000 objects and for this I have to create objects and add it to view and scroll view works fine. This seems a lot of memory is there a way we can make horizontallscrollview behave like gridview so that it request for only particular objects to be created when needed.

General :: 7 Inch Galaxy Tab - Display Moving Google Map With Current Location Centered?

Any widget that will display a moving google map with my current location centered? There are a couple apps I've found that are close, they just don't update in realtime. The reason I ask is because I have my 7" galaxy tab mounted in my truck. I use a program called torque to add gauge widgets (coolant temp,boost pressure, rpm,etc) to my home screen and would like to have a moving map display as well. I understand this would be a battery hog,but the tablet is always plugged in.

Android :: Loop Device Started Horizontally - Odd Freezes

Jul 5, 2010

I currently have three different phones, a Google ION, HTC Evo and a Droid. I've been receiving reports of weird bugs since 2.1 was released, I'd hoped they'd magically clear with 2.1-update1 but they haven't. The bugs are for specific devices and can't be tested in the emulator. On the Droid, I had a reoccurring loop when the device was started and held horizontally. Didn't happen on any other device. On the HTC Evo and Incredible, odd freezes when the screen was panned. Didn't happen on any other the other devices as far as I can tell.

None of these problems caused a crash or even an error in the log. They just caused the app to act weird. Testing with the physical devices for these bugs is absolutely critical to resolving these issues. I found the Droid problem easily, that one is fixed. The HTC problems still are present but I've managed to mitigate them with some clever programming. Regardless of how things are supposed to work, in the real world, having the actual devices in hand makes life a lot easier. It would be great if the device manufacturers would create some sort of program where we could get our hands on these things without signing up for contracts or paying $500+ for each one. They could be units that didn't pass quality control, scratch and dent models or returns, as long as they worked on WiFi, that would be all that's necessary.

Android :: How To Center Buttons On Screen Horizontally / Vertically?

Apr 10, 2010

I've been racking my brain (android newbie here, so not hard to do) for awhile trying to figure out how to accomplish this: Desired Layout using a Relative Layout or something other than AbsoluteLayout which is what this was created with. I'm coming from a Windows programming background where the device adjusts the 'absolute' positioning for you and GUI layout was a non-issue.The first layout works great in the emulator, but doesn't format for my Nexus One or any other screen that differs from the emulator size. I expected this because it's absolutely positioned, but haven't found a solution that will format correctly for different screen sizes. My goal is to have the layout work for different screen sizes and in portrait / landscape. Here's the Code that I'm currently using: [main.xml]
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<AbsoluteLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
><Button
android:id="@+id/Button01"
android:layout_width="188px"
android:layout_height="100px"
android:text="A"
android:layout_y="50px" android:layout_x="65px" android:textSize="48sp"/>
