HTC EVO 4G :: Minor WIFI Problem After Froyo Update
Aug 4, 2010
Yesterday at my office I noticed my wireless connection cycling on and off. I have a basic D-link wireless router that networks three computers. I couldn't figure out why I kept losing internet and the network. It would work for a few minutes then not work for a few.
I finally narrowed it down to my EVO. When I have the WIFI set to on in the EVO its messing up my network. Any ideas as to why? This didn't happen until the Froyo update!

I have now managed to update my phone. I hadn't realised at first that I had touse the update service software, rather than going through the phone or PC Companion. Still on Android 1.6, of course, but now have baseband version 1.1.25 and kernel version 2.6.29.
At first glance, the phone doesn't seem to have changed as lot. My contacts and applications are all as they were, as far as i can tell. The only change I have seen is that I can now use a different theme for Timescape from the rest of the phone. I use the normal black background for most things, but I can use light blue, dark blue, orange, green or pink in Timescape now. I don't think I had a choice before.
Has anyone else who has been able to update noticed anythign else...?

Prior to the Froyo update, if I had anything above 10% WiFi reception, I could watch videos over WiFi. It would be more or less uninterrupted.
Since the Froyo update, I virtually cannot watch streaming video over WiFi. When I do, it plays, but it halts every few seconds and may halt for long periods. Fortunately, 3G seems less flaky since the update.
But WiFi on Froyo on my device has gone from good to essentially unusable, at least for streaming video.
My only complaints about WiFi prior to the update were lack of support 802.11n (which I've been trying to verify may have been fixed in the last 2.1 update) and the fact that my laptop could use WiFi farther away from the router in my house than my EVO could.

After updating to Froyo, I can no longer connect to my home WiFi. anyone else having a similar issue? I've tried re-entering my WEP key with no luck. I know my WiFi is working, I took Froyo on it and my wife's Evo that hasn't been updated to Froyo connects fine.

The 2.2.1 update was supposed to fix the problem that causes wifi to disconnect when my N1 goes to sleep. As far as I can tell, I'm still having the same problem and it might even be worse because I've noticed that sometimes wifi disconnects even when the phone is plugged in, which didn't happen before.

I am a recent newcomer to Android, and have recently made the switch to the HTC Desire, on the Telstra network in Australia. I love the phone to bits, especially the level of customisability that the Android OS offers me. However, despite all the awesome, the roses have a few thorns, and I was hoping some people more knowledgeable than myself might be able to help me find solutions.I've been accumulating them over time, so there are a few. I have combed through all the settings I could find and have also tried google-ing the problems, and have come up blank. I apologise in advance if these topics have already been covered.

I've noticed that when using bluetooth audio in my car with my current setup (see sig), the audio no longer automatically resumes when I re-start my vehicle. When I was unrooted with 2.2, if I turned off the vehicle with audio playing, it would automatically resume when I started the car again later. Any ideas? I'm using MixZing as my player.

I used my Xperia X10 Mini Pro for a few dyas before I got myself a case or a screen protector. Unfortunately I picked up some minor scratches on the screen even though I was very careful! Can anyone suggest a way to remove the scratches? In the past I have used Displex but I not sure this should be used on a touch screen.

I've had a HTC Evo now for 2/3 weeks, and I love it! But over the last few days it's started to act funny....
What it's doing is lets say I unlock the phone and have it laying on my desk, in the past it would show the screen in portrait orientation....but over the lat 2/3 days its been jumping to landscape and I have to pick up the phone, tilt it to get it back to portrait, and if I lay it back down it will go back to landscape.
This is mainly annoying when checking emails/texts/etc, but also if I am on the train and holding it near my waste, depending on the angle it will bounce back and forth from portrait to landscape!
I originally did a reformat when I bought it, and I am going to do it again shortly to see if that helps....just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if it's fixable (and yes i do want auto rotation)....
My phone has a few other problems such as minor light leakage, and a dead pixel (which I was going to look past and keep the phone)...so if this is something wrong with the hardware it would be a pretty good reason to get a replacement within my 30 days....

Has anyone else noticed this? While responding to a SMS (using the physical keyboard), I will hit the "Enter" button on the keypad to send the message. Once it's sent, I will close the slider and hit the Home button (or Back button to get to my conversation list) to get back to the home screen, and either the "Message" icon or "Phone" icon is highlighted (has the default orange background) and you have to touch something on the home screen to make it go away.
I know this isn't anything HUGE, just a minor annoyance that happens to me. I have restarted the phone, but it still does it about 70% of the time. Curious if anyone else has noticed this or if it was just a specific glitch on my phone?

Developed a problem holding onto a WiFi signal after the Froyo update. After Froyo, I was getting a good connection intermittently, sometimes for only a few seconds before it was lost--the phone was switching to 3G and then back again, over and over. This disrupted downloads, browser connections, etc. I'm using an Airlink101 wireless-N router on the Comcast network.
I changed the router settings from G+N to N only. No more disconnects. Seems that the two protocols were conflicting with each other--fighting for a connection to my phone. My connection speeds went way up immediately (12-13 MPS download/3+ MPS upload). My wife has an Eris that does not have wireless-N capability (only G). I set up a secondary channel for wireless-G and gave it a different SSID name. This did not conflict with my phone--I didn't manually set up the login for that channel so it's just being ignored by the DInc.
Not sure if this is necessary for some wireless-N routers but it definitely worked (so far) for the Airlink.

I listen to music at work with some Bluetooth speakers. I also occasionally connect to WiFi while at work. Since the Froyo update if I am connected to both Wifi and Bluetooth while listening to music, the bluetooth will turn itself on and off over and over again. This did not happen to me prior to the Froyo update.I guess my question is, can we not be running and be connected to WiFi and Bluetooth at the same time with Froyo?

Does Froyo Fix the DHCP Netmask issue on the Galaxy S? Does it actually take the DHCP info from DNS and populate netmask as 255.255.255.0 instead of 255.0.0.0 on some networks? THIS IS ALL I WANT OUT OF FROYO! I want to finally be able to connect to my workplace's damn Wi-Fi. I take a lot of crap from my Motorola Droid and iPhone coworkers because of this enormous issue with the Galaxy S.

I launch the wifi tether program, but my laptop (a whopping 6 inches away) finds NO SIGNAL. I am running Bugless Beast 0.1 Froyo with P3's 250-1000MHz kernel. Everything else works great, including Flash 10.1 but I can't seem to get wifi tethering working. Not a show-stopper, but a nuisance I would like to fix. Anyone else with this problem? And have any of you figured out a fix?

Has anyone managed to get it to work with a Linux laptop? In the countryside where i am my mobile broadband fails frequently so it's a good feature. My Win7 laptop connects easily, but my LInux laptop doesn't. Haven't spent much time on the problem either - so before I do, anyone got it to work or is it a waste of time trying to?

Does anyone have any idea as to whether Froyo will address the wifi issues on the SGS?My wife's phone will not connect to any wifi hotspot unless she is virtually sitting on the router. At home it is ok as the router is in the same room, but she has tried to connect to many wifi hotspots in public places and she can never connect as the signal is so weak.Other people with iPhones, HTC etc connect with no problem, but hers will not do anything. Is this something that Froyo will address, or is it more a hardware issue with the SGS?

As you've heard, Verizon confirmed they will not support the wifi hotspot nor the tethering features on the original Droid. They claimed it's for technical reasons.Since everyone on the technical community agrees that it is not true, is there something we can do to catch the attention of Verizon and convince them to enable those features?A mass email? A petition?

Can it be done? Obviously Verizon and Motorola have disabled it because they want us to pay $20/month for the Verizon app. Yeah, sure Verizon. Anyways, if it requires a custom ROM to enable, then we're SOL until someone breaks the bootloader encryption or we have to use the free WiFi Tether for Root Users app which only supports Ad-hoc mode and WEP encryption, which basically is the same as no encryption really.

I am not sure if this has already been answered, but can't find it. So, I am starting a new thread. Please close this if there is similar thread exists.I have not received a froyo update on my EVO 4G. Once I waited long enough, here is what I have tried so far to get the update.
- NO update via OTA so far.
- Reset the phone to a factory setting, no luck.
- Manually tried going to setting --> System Update --> HTC software update --> check Now and have been getting "Your phone is up to date" for over a week now.
- Tried to install it myself by downloading the zip file. Followed all recommended steps. Tried this at least 3 different times, using different zip files I downloaded from different locations. I kept on getting "signature verification failed"
- Called sprint, transferred to several tech support people, who knew nothing about android 2.2 (froyo)
- Went to sprint store, and was told to give it another week or so before they consider this as an issue.
The only option I have left is to accidentally throw the phone under a Bus and get a brand new one since I got full insurance from Radio shack.

Does the Evo come with 2.2 installed already? I was thinking that if the Evo comes with 2.1 and 2.2 is an OTA update maybe us fellow DInc users will get it the same day as the Evo, maybe on June 5th the release day for the Evo. HTC and Google have listed the Evo and DInc many times together as the first phones to get it. The only problem we may have is the difference in carriers. I really hope its sooner than later for this update. I wanna watch World Cup off my Slingbox on my DINC.
