HTC EVO 4G :: In-call Volume - Callers Sound Extremely Faint
May 26, 2010
I've been using my google I/O Evo for a few days now, and i've noticed that i'm having quite a bit of trouble hearing people talk during a call. My hearing is pretty average(I think?) and I'm holding the earpiece directly toward my ear. I've tried pressing the volume rocker to the max for high volume output, but callers sound extremely faint. I've never really had this issue with my past flip phones. Am I missing a volume control somewhere, or do you think i have a defective unit?

The microphone on my Aria doesn't seem to be working properly. When in a quiet room speaking in a "normal" voice over the phone, my voice on the other line (as I have been told multiple times by different people, and as I have tested myself) sounds very faint and distant, as if I'm talking into the phone a mile away. On speakerphone, the volume doesn't change - I still sound distant regardless of how far the phone is from my mouth. Of course, if I talk louder, and I mean VERY loud, I can be heard "normally", but my voice still sounds obviously distant. I did a hard reset of the phone and have not installed any new apps, but the microphone performance has not changed.
Is this a software bug? Or is it just a defective microphone? I'm thinking of exchanging the Aria with a new one from AT&T, hopefully the policy (since I've owned the phone not even for 30 days now) won't require me to pay full price. Or does anyone know anything about their exchange policy? Because the website is not very clear on pricing (if any) on exchanges that take place before the device has been owned for 31 days or more, in which case it's free. I think, I don't know. The site is just plain confusing.

I actually dont have the echo problem everyone seems to have. Call quality is really good on my end, but everyone I speak too says that I sound way too low even after they blast the volume on their phone. I have to angle the phone towards my mouth in order for them to hear me at a decent speaking level. Is there a way to increase the microphone sensitivity? I have voice privacy off and EVRC-B on.

Alright so i got my droid yesterday, everything was fine. It was loud and everything. Last night i was looking up a youtube video, could barely hear it even when the volume was up on high. Now even my notification "droid" voice is so low, even my music is.

scoured "call volume" threads and not sure if this is experienced by anyone else. Intermittently when I answer a call I can barely hear the other person. Call volume is at the highest setting. I try making it lower then higher and nothing changes. If I end the call and call the same person back I will get normal call volume behavior. This happens every 5-10 phone calls.
sound like an issue with the hardware?
1.) Model Number ? Droid
2.) Firmware Version ? 2.0.1
3.) Baseband Version ? C_01.3E.01P
4.) Kernel Version ? 2.6.29-omap1-g0dd7e0b android-build@apa26 #511
5.) Build Number ? ESD56

I have two questions:
1) Before the update, there was a sound that indicated when the call was ended. Anyway to get that back?
2) Has anyone figured out a way to change the end button behavior that was previously controlled by the Spare Parts app? I would like to end button to go home and then go to sleep but Spare Parts can't do it under the new software. Any ideas?

I work in a shop and it tends to be loud so i don't always hear my phone ring, or hear my notifications. Is there an app or a way to make the volume louder besides the side volume buttons etc... Also i don't want to blow the speaker on the phone either.

I've been trying for a week now to figure out how to silence/change or disable the 'plink' sound that I get when waking my EVO from sleep. I use 'no lock' and it allows me to wake the screen without using the power button but that 'plink' is driving me nuts.

adjust the sound volume of the "touch sound". In my audio settings the "touch sound" is checked also the "lock screen sound", but both do not work. The touch sound exist in my /system/media/audio/ui and it sounds!

I was wondering where the volume sound effects are. What I mean is when you go into settings --> sound-->volume ,and then change the volume, there is a sound that plays for each one. When I change the media volume there is a song that plays that I like. So where is the file stored. I am rooted and have a samsung phone.

Just wanted to make sure if this is a common issue or something wrong with my handset (so that I can try getting it replaced).
When I hear calls using phone's default speaker, the sound comes okay till one volume level. If I move up, the sound distorts.
If I use speaker-phone, things are worse. After a certain level, sound crackles a lot.
For music via phone's loud speaker, the sound doesn't crackle. But as identified by many, I can hear music with no bass & lots of treble.
Is this normal for Desire?
Comparing it with my wife's N95 (which has stereo speakers) was a nightmare for me.

Anyone else getting a crackling sound out of their headphones when media volume is 100%? If I turn it down one notch the crackling disappears. Headphones are not the issues as I have verified this on 3 different pair. Im gonna see if my wifes droid does the same thing but figured I would post up and see what others thought.

I currently use Timeriffic, which has been great at managing settings for different times of the day. What I am looking for, however, is an application similar to that where I can define the sound behavior for one specific application.
What I am trying to do is make it so all notifications are at 10% volume during the night, but Id like to make notifications from Google Talk louder, like at 50%. I haven't been able to find anything that would allow a rule like that, but thought Id ask since you guys seem to know everything!

I just lost sound on my EVO.
No ringers, no audio in videos, no touch tones, nothing. All the ringers are turned up, it's NOT on silent mode.
I can however talk on the phone, the ear piece works. Mic works too.
I just flashed Fresh 0.5.x coming from 0.3

I've been having a problem with my media volume setting which is causing it to stay silenced. I usually have my phone set to vibrate but I'm unable to change the media volume in any way. Ringer and notification volumes don't give me any problems. I have found that if I turn my phone off and then on again the media volume will be turned on too but it will get stuck silenced again shortly after.

I love my Evo 4g but I have to say it lacks in sound quality. Phone calls get distorted if the volume is set too high. It sounds bad like the speaker is blown, I wonder if this is an actual defect or if it can be fixed with a software update. I also use Pandora and mp3 player and when I use my 3.5 mm to cassette adapter in my car the low/mid range frequencies are hollow sounding. I use many other devices in my car (ipod, laptop,Samsung mp3 etc.) And none sound like this. I've also plugged directly into home surround system and bose inner ear head phones and noticed this. I hope they can fix this with a OTA update .....

Has anyone else noticed some type of faint scrolling lines on their screens. I notice it more when on lighter backgrounds, like the blue ink splash. Both my behold II and a friends has the same thing. Is this a property of OLED screens, some type of refresh? They are horizontal lines and dont always cover the whole screen.I really read how awesome an OLED screen was supposed to be, but eh I think the Iphone screen is still nicer. Any thoughts on these lines, I doubt this is limited to two phones.

First post here. I've tried searching for this issue but have come up with nothing, so if it's been posted, please point me in the right direction.I've had my Hero since January (Sprint) and this only came up in the last couple of days. About a week ago (05/28/10) my Hero froze and Sprint issued me a new phone which they updated to 2.1. On Thursday (06/03/10) I noticed the sound when I use my touch screen is much louder than it used to be. I'm almost positive the new phone wasn't quite this loud when I first got it. The sound I'm talking about is not the 'tone' sound as I've disabled that, but the 'ticking' sound when you launch an app or shortcut. Does this make sense? Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Is there a way to make this sound quieter? I'd rather not disable it completely as I like a little bit of feedback that a button has been hit.

Does anyone else find it annoying when your in a meeting or lecture or church and someone tries to turn down the volume on their phone, only to have the phone beep with every change in volume? Is there any way to turn off this volume response when using the volume controls on the side of the Sprint Hero? Likewise, any way to turn off the sound when turning the phone on/off?

Last night I was bored and browsing through my soundboards looking for a new ringtone. I was opening and closing apps, running task killer, if I thought it necessary. Everything was fine, until all of a sudden my media volume stopped working. On screen, while I'm playing media, I can pull the volume up and down, but no sound comes out. The Alarm volume, and ringer volume continue to work. So this morning I snooped around the forums and decided to reset my phone. All was going well, until I accidentally played some mp3's that were on my SD card. Now the media volume has stopped working again and when I turn on my phone, my music app has attached itself to that screen that you have to pull down to log in.
I didn't request that, and can't find a way to turn that off in the settings. To be honest, I am a new user. I've had my hero for two weeks, and I'd love to know that my problems are user error and not a faulty phone. I've also re-downloaded task killer and am wondering if that was a bad choice. I'm still at the point of just playing with my phone: launching apps, installing, uninstalling, etc, and it seemed like a good idea. In a worst case scenario, I'm thinking of deleting the mp3's and doing another reset. But if I have to keep doing this regularly, the exercise will get a little old.

I have an I Tech Clip M bluetooth head set. It appears to pair correctly, but I don't enter the 0000 code.
However, no sound seems to come from the music player. I mean it comes from the G1's speakers, but nothing though the headphones.
Tried adjusting volume on headset, nada
Is there a setting I need to set?

My volume buttons seem loose. Is that normal you think? Perhaps its a petty thing to think about, but play (I can hear them rattle a bit if I shake the phone gently) in my experience leads to quick wear.

Mine feels a little loose, and it make a rattle sound, am i the only one with this? its like the plastic isnt tight or something, but when you press it its nice and firm to "click" up or down.
also the bottom of the screen/whole left side where the KB is kind of dips down about a hundreth or tenth of an inch wen you press something on the screen on that side, im guessing thats normal for a slider.

I have a samsun galaxy s2 t989 from t mobile, and i have a aquestion, how I can adjust the volume. I enter the options menu sound system and upload volume but low volume listening. I saw on the internet a key * # 197328640 # I can get but I can not change the speaker says the value of 53, this would be the reason why I listen to low.

I bought my captivate 3 weeks ago from Amazon. It works well overall and I do enjoy a lot. Besides the GPS issue, low in-call volume bothers me all the time. Calls can only be heard clearly in a very quiet place, otherwise I need to keep saying sorry to people on the other end of line. I did search around the forum, no useful information on this subject can be found. So I am curious whether this issue only happens randomly on some handsets or it is a already solved issue which no one even bothers now?

I've noticed many threads on the volume levels of the HTC Desire, all to do with the speaker volume for music, notifications and alarms. I have no problems with these, they're perfectly acceptable to me. However, the in call volume on this phone is ridiculously low, if there is any noise in the room at all I can't hear a thing and this is with the volume maxed. Using headphones or the speakerphone it is fine. Is there a fix to increase the in call volume beyond the current maximum?
