View 3 RepliesI need to support Android 1.5 (Cupcake) for my application but I don't have any 1.5 device. I currently have a Motorola Droid with 2.0.1 and the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream) with 1.6 (Donut).
What I want to do is to downgrade my G1 to the previous official OTA release of Cupcake. I have no experience in rooting an Android device, so I would appreciate if someone could give me a step by step guide on how to accomplish this?
Okay, I have received several PM's on this but tonight, someone asked me to give a complete step-by-step walkthrough. It's Easter and I figured I could use the good Karma I have removed the name of the user that asked for this even though they didn't care...I just prefer to keep it anonymous and if that person identifies himself...cool...I just don't want to do it.I figured this might help someone else so here it is.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOK, here is a step by step on how I rooted and flashed my Sprint HTC Hero. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE! Basically to make it easier I'm just going to post the links to the sites where I got the procedures or downloaded the files, it's that simple. Here is the step by step guide I used to root my hero's. Worked flawlessly on both, just follow each step EXACTLY. The copy and paste idea on step 7 is a great idea so you don't get any commands wrong. View 3 Replies View RelatedI decided to manually root my phone, initially I had a device come up and everything was really smooth until step 15
1: Code: cd C:android-sdk-windows ools
2: Code:adb devices
If you've been following this guide you will see your phone's serial number. If you get "device not found" error, you either need to make sure you the drivers were properly installed or make sure you enable USB debugging AFTER you connect the USB cable. Continue on once you get the proper phone serial output.
3: Code:adb push asroot2 /data/local/
4: Code:adb shell
5: Code:chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2
6: Code:/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh You should see an output that says: $ /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh [+] Using newer pope_inode_info layout
Opening: /proc/857/fd/3
SUCCESS: Enjoy the shell.
#Now for a few last commands.
7: Code:mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
8: Code:cd /system/bin
9: Code:cat sh > su
10: Code:chmod 4755 su
You are now officially rooted. A few more steps and you will have flashed the recovery image.
11: Code:exit
12: Code:exit
13: Code:adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img /sdcard Pushing is equivalent of copy the file to the root of your sdcard. By the time you finished reading this it should be done. You'll know its done because the ouput will say something like transferred X bytes in X secs.
14: Code:adb shell reboot This will cause the phone to restart automatically. Wait till it is fully booted to continue.
15: Code:adb shell Now I receive the following Error: error: device not found
I tried to reboot the phone but there was not change.
I tried the following
C:android-sdk-windows ools>adb kill-server
C:android-sdk-windows ools>adb devices
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *

I was hoping to get my original device listed, but I still have nothing.
Can you please share a good Android tutorial with step by step basic programs.

Got some purchased apps including Touchdown so I definitely want to preserve those with minimal issues in reloading them without having to purchase them again. I use ADW as my launcher, it would nice to save those settings. Is there a step by step guide or instructions for doing this? I've done this 4 or 5 times over the years with PC's, can't imagine this should be that difficult with the DX.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOk so I cant get my dinc rooted, not sure why I have done this and checked it You must install the HOOT-Capable Universal Drivers. This took me a while to figure out how to do this because there is no directions how to check the SD card. I did it by mounting as diskdrive, when I clicked on comp there where 3 new drives, I found the one that was 1.83 gig (my sd card) then I formated as fat32, went back in check it it was correct, then I went and mounted back to charge only as in directions Verify that you have an SD Card installed with at least 2Gb free space. If the SD is smaller than 4Gb, make sure it is FAT32 formatted. Look at it on your PC or Mac to be sure. Now I run unrevoked 3 let it sit for 30 minutes and it stalls out, I have run it 3 times with the same results, unrevoked says: waiting for root, (safe to restart if this doesn't work) also says recovery image clockworkmod recovery.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOn Youtube, there is a user named thenewboston who posts videos teaching basic computer programming that are aimed at total beginners like me. His tutorials are really easy to understand, because he goes through the process as if talking to an elementary school kid.nyway, he just started a tutorial series about developing iPhone apps. Maybe it's time someone from the Android camp did the same? Sure, there are many tutorials already available online, but they don't appeal to the common person, and the good video tutorials on Youtube are all more than one hour long. By doing something like this, more people would be attracted to try develop apps for Android.

I am new to this
I fould this online and thought it may come in handy for some people 1. Benefits The CPU drains more power if it is running at a higher frequency. If the processor is running faster, the phone will be faster and more responsive, but the battery may drain more quickly. If the processor is running more slowly, the phone will be less responsive and take longer to complete tasks, but battery life will be increased. With SetCPU, you can set up profiles to manage the CPU speed based on certain conditions.2. Main Tab and Basic Usage To get started with SetCPU, start the app, read the introduction, and pick "autodetect frequencies." If you ever need to access this screen again, press the Menu button in SetCPU's Main tab, then choose Device Selection. If your kernel doesn't support autodetect, you won't see it choose the device that best matches your phone from the list. After you've passed the introduction screen, you may get a request from Superuser Permissions. Depending on your version of Superuser Permissions, either check the box for "remember" and press "allow" or press the "always allow" button. The sliders here allow you to manually control the CPU scaling bounds. The CPU frequency will always be between these two values. By default, the CPU should scale between the max and min frequencies based on need. The sliders also control the "main" profile as explained later. The "scaling" drop-down list is an advanced feature that allows you to control the behavior of the CPU scaling mechanism. See explanations for the different governors in the CPU Scaling Governors section.SetCPU also includes a widget for your home screen. Add SetCPU's widget like you would any other widget: long press on your home screen, select Widgets, and select the SetCPU widget. A screen will pop up so you can configure the widget's appearance. If you would like it to show current CPU speed, set the Active Refresh Interval to something other than "Passive," though a passive refresh interval is recommended to save battery.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have currently been testing the method of rooting leaked 2.1 phones. There was a little discussion running in that thread (and other threads, I've found) that poses the question whether or not the RUU is the same as 2.1 Leak v3. The RUU I'm using is referenced here: [ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URLs - xda-developers - which can be found here:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Desire/RUU_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_2.36.605.1_release_signed _with_driver.exe
Leak 2.1 v3 I'm using is referenced here: HTC DROID Eris OS 2.1v3 download -- which can be found here: PB00IMG.zip. So, the process that I've been using to root these phones involves flashing the RUU OTA onto the phone. With some help from user bftb0, I have taken the time to do the analysis. How did I get system.img and boot.img off of the RUU OTA, you might ask? Well, after I flashed the RUU OTA onto the phone, I went through the Incredible/Slide root method to root the phone I'm working with (without changing any phone settings within Sense).
After getting adb to recognize the device in recovery, I took the steps necessary to flash Amon_RA's recovery. I then took a Nandroid backup of my phone and extracted the system.img and boot.img files off of the SD card where the Nandroid backup was stored. Then, I used unyaffs to unpack system.img into 2 separate directories, and used split_bootimg.pl to unpack boot.img. So, for split_bootimg.pl I did this, starting at the directory where each respective boot.img file is:

I just spent half an hour going through each file in the OTA upgrade ZIP and comparing its CRC (checksum) to the same exact file in the "leak v3" PB00IMG.ZIP, including all of the files inside system.img. Process: First off, just by opening the two ZIP files with 7-Zip I can see that the boot.img, radio.img, and recovery.img are identical. In both ZIPs, their CRCs are EA7388FA, 54C41EEC, and 3F0153F1 respectively.
Since the OTA breaks down system.img into just the files that need updating (for the purpose of keeping the file size as low as possible), the only way to compare the files with system.img in "leak v3" was to use the root ROM created from "leak v3". (Thank goodness there's an unadulterated ROM of it, so the original CRCs are intact!) One by one, I compared the CRCs of the files in the OTA's system folder with the same files in the "leak v3" system folder. Findings: The files that are in the OTA are completely identical to the ones in the leak v3 system.img, with only one exception: The OTA contains an additional app called UpgradeSetup.apk. Obviously, it's only necessary for executing the upgrade..............
