"You can tell that the processor is fast, but the UI still has a jerky quality to it - it's not totally fluid. We'd say that's more of an Android thing, though."Quoted directly from engadet's preview."Dont get me wrong: the Droid X is a delight to use. But at times, the hypothetical finish feels a little rougher than it should, and its lacking a certain refinement in how it switches between screens, in how it responds to the touch that one sees in an iPhone or even iPod."Quoted from Zdnet.com's preview.I have hopes that the phone is nice and fluid. I remember the droid when it first came out was lagy, especially on the home screens. Lets hope the X is not.

Lately I've been downloading a lot of apps and trying them out, only to find out 8/10 times i don't want them anymore. I've noticed a few leave behind folders on my SDcard that I had to delete. Just wondering if that's all they left or maybe something left in the system too.

Don't get me wrong, I think its great what they are doing by integrating search with all the "smartphone features", along with trying to bust up the Mirosoft entrenchment, but it seems like they can potentially have access to too much personal info. I know much, if not all of Google access can be turned off, but if you want to use the phone to its fullest, everything you do can be stored/monitored on a Google server.
- If you want to transfer contacts from a non Android phone, list has to go to Google for conversion (Exchange excluded).they know who you associate with.
- Turn on GPS, use for application and search assistance.they know where you are.
- Create custom maps and use Nav they know your habits and where you're going.
- Calendar they know when you're going to go.
- Use search/browse history to aid Google in helping you find what you're looking for they know what you like.
- GDocs, stored online they know what you're working on.
- "Backup my settings".they know how you use your phone, and copies of personal files store on the phone (full flash of phone and SD card, still got wallpaper back then some?).
- You want a decent POP3 mail app, "have" to use Gmail they have all your personal email.
I understand that being able to get free "stuff", there has to be some sort of give/take, but working in IT and being the cynic that I am, I can't help but think that this phone was rolled out more for Google's benefit than ours (read, Data Mining). But I'm more concerned about a security breach given that so much personal info is stored in one spot.

10 yr + Blackberry user here. Waiting for NexusOne or Incredible to hit VZW. I am looking to move 5 BB users to Android. I am going to "test" out either phone to make sure the users will be satisfied prior to pulling the trigger and I have a few questions. f you have Exchange and use touchdown could you answer a few questions? How does TD work as far a your "homescreen" is concerned? What about if you have that PLUS a gmail account (or 2) work on homescreen? In a more detailed way, I am used to having a all my email come into one account on my BB and I know from reading various posts here this is not the case with Android. I am curios to know how an exchange account and gmail account play out on the phone's home screen. Can you have icons that show each account with notifications? I am confused at looking a touchdown screen shots and it looks like your exchange account consumes the entire homescreen. It's odd I know BB so well and feel like the new kid in school and it bothers me that my knowledge is not up to par yet. Although not having a Android phone yet, I am anxious to find some things out prior since obviously VZW is not fast enough.

Does anyone know the main differences between the full HTC version of 2.2 and the T-Mobile version that has just been rolled out? From what I have seen in some articles the camera and camcorder functions / look and feel haven't changed. anybody else know of differences other than the addition of crappy new apps i didn't ask for... thanks T-Mobile

I am having my Galaxy S delivered tomorrow and was wondering what protection people are using. I was going to use some sort of film protector, such as Zagg invisible shield and a Flip Case. But the only flip case I can find for the Galaxy S looks horrid, and I am not sure on the texture of Zagg Invisible Shields.I have also considered silicone gel cases, but I am having trouble finding one that is nice, and pouches in combo with a screen protector. What would you use and if I did buy a screen protector, which brand should it be, I want one that will protect but with minimum difference to the feel or colour of the screen.

I used to be a C/C++ programmer before getting in to android. I am not sure how people maintain 2 versions of a program without using #ifdef preprocessor macros. Right now I am changing the package name in eclipse and changing the code manually, but this seems really inefficient. Can anybody suggest a good way of having 2 or more projects that share most of the code?

I'm planning on getting LockBot when I get my EVO and I was wondering, what's the difference between the free version and paid version. I basically want the Moto Droid lock screen on my EVO for the slide to toggle sound on/off feature due to the lack of an external switch on the EVO. Would I be best to get the paid version or will the free version do that?

Let's say for example that I have some Android app that does X. The free version has ads or basic features. I want to have a paid version that removes the ads and adds extra features. How can I use the paid app as a "license key" to unlock the features in the free app? So the user would install the free app, then install the paid app to get the extra features, but they would still run the free app (which would now be unlocked). What's the best approach to doing this?

I got my Evo on the first day. I rooted it and was using the Bugless Beast. I then really wanted 2.2 so I did not do the OTA. I did whatever was recommended at the time to go to 2.2 and not lose root. I just followed the guides and unfortunately don't remember what method I used for either one. Months later, my phone starts to reboot whenever, so I try to do research and I see I am on the PRI 1.34.
Now I know that has nothing to do with my rebooting but now I am trying to get a better version of the PRI. So I do the 2 step unroot method (HTC Sync and RUU) after doing the unrevoked forever with the S-ON feature. Well I'm still on the 1.34 PRI. My phone does not reboot anymore. But now where I work I am always on 4G Roaming or 3G Roaming. How I can get back to stock 2.2 with at least 1.70.

So, I rooted my EVO days before the recent September framerate fix was released. Now I need to "re-root" with the new version. Hate to be dense, but how do I do this, as simple as possible? (steps, where to find the best ROM, etc). I'm just not sure what step to pick back up on and re-do the root with the new version. By the way, I used this walkthrough to do the initial 2.2 root (the videos are so easy to follow)

Found myself needing to compare old and new app versions on my EVO but couldn't find a quick way. I was hoping there might be an alternative to the methods I used. I have a TON of apps installed and aTrackDog is slow to generate the information. Plus you then have to view the exported file separately from the app used to create the file. App List puts together a list quickly but rarely exports the version info. And I know that one can get app version info from Manage Applications on the phone but that too is slow to generate the information. Is there a FAST and easy way to see the version of the app? Would be nice to able to see something right from the App Drawer but I don't see any option other than the Manage Applications section of the phone and having to wait.
