HTC EVO 4G :: Frequent Loading Home Screen Since Froyo?
Aug 5, 2010
Not sure if anyone else is getting this, but every once in awhile when I try to go back to the home screens the HTC logo comes up and a "Loading" window comes up for a little while before I can access the home screens. Anyone know what could be causing this? This never happened before froyo. At first I thought it might be from widgets that I have saved to SD but I don't have any apps with widgets saved to SD (I don't think). Ideas?

I downloaded a couple widgets from HTC this evening. They show up in the widget list but wont load to home screen. Instead when I select them I am taken to a screen with uninstall and details as choices. Usually if I tap the widgets they are placed on a home screen where they can be launched.

I got my Droid about a week after release, and have really loved it. A few minor issues here or there, but nothing overly worrisome. In the past few weeks, I've noticed when I'm in an app (and it's not just one or two, it can be almost any app - Dolphin, USA Today, Pocket Kingdoms, etc), and I press home, it takes about 3 seconds for the app to go away and my home screen to show up. However, when the home screen does show up, it just shows my wallpaper, and then takes 5-10-15 seconds for the shortcuts and widgets to load.
My home page(s) are not terribly widget oriented at all. When I restart the phone it fixes it for a couple of days, but then starts up again. I've really just noticed it since the most recent OS update. Anyone else 1.) have this issue, and 2.) know a permanent fix? It's really rather aggravating, especially when I'm in a hurry before going into a meeting or something. I can give some more specific information if needed, as far as specific widgets and apps I'm running, etc. I'm using stock 2.1, no mods or anything.

I'm Running 2.2, CyanogenMod 6.0.0, using a Chevyno1 LV 1.0 ghz kernel with FRG22D.My home screens take forever to load after i do anything, from checking a text message, to reading the news on an app. It takes about 4 or 5 seconds to have all my widgets and icons load up. I'm OCing it to 1.0 ghz and it still loads slow. My phone performs fast overall except for this. I have five screens on my Launcher Pro home, and each one has just one widget. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? Can I clear any caches?

I Finally rooted my Sprint HTC hero and was happy after two hours of figuring it out. Well I did a factory reset and I accidentally removed the two IM apps and now my home screen wont load it says the HTC sense has stopped unexpectedly.

I upgraded my Nexus One a few days ago with 2.2 (Froyo). This morning when I went to use it I saw a Dialog sitting atop the home/launcher screen notifying me that an update was available and that I could choose to upgrade now or later. My question is, what API mechanisms is this using to show a Dialog (perhaps an AlertDialog) atop the home screen? Having written an Android app, it was my understanding that Dialogs could only be shown atop an Activity, and that a Service cannot show a Dialog (only a Toast).

I've looked through the documentation and I can't seem to figure out how to have the screen blured/greyed when I select an activity that may take a while to load.
This seems to be an Android standard (both the Camera app and the Camcorder app do it when first selected), but I don't see any documentation on it. I even tried looking through the source of these apps on git, but couldn't seem to find it.

My screen turns black when i wake up my phone. frequent reboots, that it does on it's on, not to mention the lines showing up across my screen. this phone has never been dropped and has a screen protector and case on it. looks like i'll be calling verizon for a replacement - totally unacceptable, but understandable considering it's a new phone.. and it seems these days things are being rushed out the door.

I seem to posting a lot here lately .For whatever reason, I've decided to go back from the Custom ROM's I've been flashing to the official "HTC Telstra Froyo" here in Australia.
I've installed HTC Sync, downloaded the official RUU file from the HTC Website, and following instructions ... (Open HTC Sync, select HTC Sync from Connection Drop Box), then running the RUU exe file.
Confirmation screens follow, and it all goes well up until it tries to load the Bootloader in the phone.
The boot splash screen is displayed, but after a few minutes the computer informs me that it cannot load the bootloader.
If the USB cable is unplugged, it displays the bootloader, and the only option given is "RUU".
Plug the cable back in, and it goes straight back to the boot splash screen. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I still have rooting on 2.1 but every time I run 2.2 (with the superuser icon), I try to run a program like setcpu (y'know because I thought I was rooted) or any other program that requires root. It still doesn't work and says "no rooted access detected". I load up the superuser app no messages or anything just a black screen. I've tried the "update.zip fix" about 20x and still nothing. Am I doing the update wrong or something? Cause reboot in recovery with clockwork mod and hit "apply update.zip".

I am running a droid x currently unrooted (but have been rooted since 2.1).
I have rooted every install of 2.2 except for my current one (for testing purposes).
The problem is that every two or so weeks ever since installing the 2.2 OTA I have to do a factory reset in order for my 3G internet to work on the phone.
Let me explain the symptoms. Randomly the phone will refuse to finish loading webpages or market items over 3G. Sometimes after waiting a real long time or clicking a lot it will load the pages... but sometimes it will not. The internet still functions fine on the phone over wifi connection, and here's the real surprise: I can tether my laptop via both wireless tether and barnacle I get full speed on the computer even though on the phone it won't load. It always ends up taking a factory reset before it will work again.
I have 3G and my signal bars are fine.
I have been trying to figure this out for weeks. Here are the things I've tried so far:
-Cycle phone off and on multiple times.
-Cycle wifi and airplane mode multiple times.
-Multiple battery pulls.
-Clear cache and force close every application and service known to man.
-Uninstall various applications to see if they are causing problems.
-Remove SU privileges from different/all root apps.
-Try different browsers.
-*228 both options 1 and 2
-Repair privileges.
I have done a facory reset with froyo 4 times now. Each time within 2-12 days the problem returns and I can't fix it without a reset. The last three times I've reset I have gone through the whole process skipping every option to install accounts etc. as recommended to many guides.

Two things I'd like to be able to do with my incredible.First is reduce the number of homescreens. Seven is really pointless for me, it makes finding the right screen take a little longer and there's just not enough good quality widgets that I need to use. I could do better with 5 and possibly just 3.Second is that when I'm not on a homescreen and I hit the home button, I'd like it to go back to the LAST homescreen I was on, not the center one. And if I'm already on a homescreen, once again pull up the homescreen select menu, instead of going to the center homescreen. It's a waste of a button press to always go to that center screen when pressing the home button.

I updated my Droid Maxx to 4.4. The change I first noticed is that the home key takes you back to the home screen instead of just leaving an app and returning to the screen I was originly on. This is definitly new. Is there a way to turn it off?

Whenever I am using any app and press the home button, the home screen blacks out for a few secs and it takes around 10 sec to get all the icons back and before I can start using my phone again. I am using a non rooted mytouch 3g.
This problem does not happen if I exit an app by pressing the back button. It becomes very annoying at times.

This is more of an annoyance, but whenever I reply to a message off the home screen widget, it automatically defaults to the home number for that contact, instead of replying to the same (cell) number that it was sent from. If I go into the messaging app, it works as it should (replies to the same number).

I am designing a home screen widget. I ran this widget on a HTC Hero device, which has a screen of 320 pixels * 480 pixels with mdpi. It ran perfect on HTC Hero. The widget takes 3 cells * 2 cells space, i.e. 240 pixels * 200 pixels. Then I ran this widget on a Nexus One device, which has a screen of 480 pixels * 800 pixels, mdpi. Since Nexus One also is mdpi, so I though 240dip is equivalent to 240 pixels on Nexus One and 200dip is equivalent to 200 pixels on Nexus One, so the widget will not take 3 cells * 2 cells space on Nexus One device. To my surprise, when running on Nexus One device, the widget take exact 3 cells * 2 cells, about 360 pixels * 300 pixels, on Nexus One device.I am confused. The layout xml above specifies 240dip in width and 200dip in height for the widget, but why did it take 360 pixels * 300 pixels on Nexus One Device? What am I missing?

I downloaded the leaked version of Froyo for my droid the other day. so far, so good. But I do have a question, that I have yet to see answered. The new one has a new version of Car home which appears to have open sockets for apps that can be added, but I cannot figure out how to add them. Is this just an issue with the the leaked copy of FroYo or is it just not customizable?

So I just got my car mount for the droid yesterday, and was wondering about the car home screen. For some reason, the car home screen has about 4 blank spots where it looks like you could put apps in there, but you can't do anything with it. Is there anyway to put more apps on those screens? I wanted to put pandora on the car home screen but I can't figure out what these extra spaces are for.

My Incredible has recently started to crash frequently and it seems to keep getting worse, now at least once or twice per day. It never crashes while I am using it, but I will go to check it later and it is dead. This is getting frustrating because I am missing calls without even knowing the phone is off. I either have to pop the battery or plug into power to force a reboot. Im not sure how to figure out what application might be causing the problem or if maybe it is a hardware issue. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this, or know what I might do to start troubleshooting?

I'm trying to write a clock widget that displays Epoch time and I need it to update every second.
Currently I'm doing this using a Service that uses a Handler:
CODE:..................
The problem I'm having is that over time, my home screen appears to get noticeably laggy. I'm fairly new to Android so I'm not sure if what I'm doing is the correct approach or if there's a better way to achieve this (maybe with AsyncTask?). Is there a way to update a widget frequently without suffering from UI lag? If I need to post more code, please let me know. My widget simply starts and stops this service, and my appwidget-provder has android:updatePeriodMillis="0".

There's a sports blog that I read on the train every morning on the way to work. However, something with the blog's mobile site causes my phone to freeze frequently and not be able to be turned off via the sleep button. My only solution is to complete a physical battery pull (HTC Droid Eris). My question is this: Are frequent battery pulls for the phone bad? It seems like the answer would be "very much so", or "not at all, pull away!".

I've been flashing my Optimus 2x with different roms from miui to cyanogenmod 7 to 9. I've been wondering because earlier some of my apps were perfectly functioning (e.g. market, temple run, and titanium backup) until I attempted to flash an update zip of titanium backup and Go sms (manual install). Now these apps are keeping force closing on my SelfKang 3 ICS.

I've been running launcherpro on the latest kangerade and I've been having some widget issues. On every reboot, my widgets fail to load, I get the problem loading widgets screen, and I have to uninstall and reinstall the application to fix the problem. Any ideas on what could cause this and how to fix it. Launcherpro and those apps were all installed on the phone. I had a similiar problem with the default launcher, and I must say its the only drawback I've seen with android so far.

I recently did some update on my Hero, and now on the home screen, one of my widgets just has a black rectangular box that inside says "Problem loading gadget".
I did an internet search and see that I need to load it to internal memory. I've gone to Settings, then Applications, then Manage applications...but can find nothing when I click on an widget where I can load to internal memory. How do I do that? or.....how do I get rid of this "Problem loading gadget" box (and I don't even remember what it was).

I just upgraded to HTC Magic from Vodafone UK and I love it, but I seem to have a problem with the calendar app. When I load it I just get a blank (white) screen. The context menu button had no effect (apart from greying out for a few seconds) and I just have to exit the application. As I have always had Nokia before now I assumed that the app would still load a calendar and allow me to add appointments, to-do's, alarms etc.I have NOT tried to synch with Google as I use Outlook and was hoping to synch with that. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with the Calendar?
