Sprint HTC Hero :: Damage Control - From 2.08 To 2.09?
Jun 6, 2010I'm running Damage Control 2.08 (not 2.08.1) and am very, very happy with my Hero. 4G comes to my area in July, so I MAY consider the Evo then, but now right now I'm not itchy to switch.
Sprint released their 2.1 update and my understanding is that the good folks at Damageless have based their latest 2.09 on Sprint's new 2.1, adding their own tweaks.
Even after reading the changelog, I'm waivering over whether it will be worth my time to wipe and upgrade again.
Has anyone else gone 2.08/2.08.1 to the new 2.09? What is your experience with 2.09? Was it worth the time and effort? Did you notice any difference in performance? Or maybe a better question - anything in the Sprint release that I don't already have?

May 13, 2010So I just joined the rooted side of things and it was quite nerve wrecking to root for someone who isn't experienced, but I did it and it worked.
Issue is as follows:

Trying to update with DCupdater for damage control 2.0.8.1, but the screen gets stuck on SU request. Also I had to redownload Rom manager by clockworldMOD and it won't flash clockword MOD recovery so I can use it?

Jul 29, 2010I rooted my phone (HTC Hero 200 running 2.1) a few days ago, went with Fresh 2.1, but after having some trouble with WiFi Tethering I opted for Damage Control. I did a lot of searching online and found Damage Control 0.999999% and installed it on my phone. It is working okay for the most part, but I found out that there are a number of 2.0 versions out there so I decided I wanted to update to a new version.
1) Version 2.09.1 would not load (and I read that it was unstable so I removed it and rolled back.
2) I went with version 2.08.1 and when I rebooted the phone it would get stuck on the boot-up screen and would not go any further (I went in, wiped the phone, went back to the initial Kernel I installed (2.6.29-8f4e5478 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1), but it still wouldn't work.
3) I research other Damage Control ROMS and went with 2.06.1 Lite to download the DCUpdater, thinking that if I went with this edition I would use it to get to 2.08.1, but same result as before.
Do I need to download a new Kernel? Do I need to start from scratch and root my phone all over again?

Can anyone point me to a link for instructions on installing it from stock release day rom to newest Fresh version. I also updated with the OTA when it was pushed to my phone earlier if that matters.

Jul 24, 2010Okay, I don't use sense anymore because I am totally loving launcher pro. However, I have noticed with fresh 2.3.3 that there is a lot of junk on there that I don't want or need, like "coin," "battery," "Dice," etc. Since these are system apps I can't remove them through the uninstall app. Does anyone have any idea of which of these sense apps are safe to remove through adb and which are not?

May 18, 2010I was running Fresh 1.1+Gumbo and decided to take the plunge. I made my android backup, and backed up all my apps+system files with Titanium Backup and then flashed to Fresh 2.1.1. My question now is, how do I restore all my apps that I backed up. Do I just re-install the app from the market? And then use that to restore my old apps? Any help would be appreciated. Also... how do I enable apposed in 2.1.1 in the notes, flips stated it's turned off by default. I'd like to turn that on. I like me lots of apps, and would rather have them on my SD card.

Jun 7, 2010I have Fresh 2.1.2 loaded on my Hero. When trying to launch MetaMorph it tells me to make sure i have enough space in /system. I have wiped and reinstalled the rom and have almost 90 mb free on the phone. I also can't get root explorer to work but am more interested in getting MetaMorph working. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know of anyway to fix this?

Feb 16, 2010I rooted my phone and flashed with Fresh 1.1 yesterday, and so far so good, I'm loving it. However, I noticed that my texting applications, Handcent SMS (as well as the stock messaging app), they no longer showing my contact's photos. It just shows a blank profile image of a head, with a question mark in the upper righthand corner (the stock messaging app is the same, just a dark silhouette instead of contact photo now). My contact's photos are all still in my phone, they work fine and are viewable in the "people" application (both FB photos and my own photos that I've assigned to contacts), or when I'm making a phone call, but in both messaging applications they don't have images anymore. I've verified in the Handcent SMS that "Display contact picture" is enabled (I've tried disabling it, then redisplaying it at both sizes... still no luck). I've also tried uninstalling Handcent SMS, then reinstalling the application from Market, still no luck. Any suggestions on how to get those back? I'm thinking that since it's not working in either messaging application, that it has something to do with the contact photos database (which I don't even know if something like that exists).

I'm trying to get rid of the standard music player (Rock On from SlideMe is still a tad glitchy, but it's mostly fantastic for it's ineffable ability to land artwork for every album and the last.fm tour finder) and also Sprint Navigation (pointless with Google Maps).

Apr 7, 2010I have recovered several water damaged phones and thought maybe this could help someone else. If its a toilet or some kind of non-chlorinated water, your phone most likely can recover. First shake it out as best as you can. If it is not off turn it off. Put it in a bowl of rice for about 12 hours. (just with the back off and the battery removed) then disassemble your phone as far as you can.
Take all pieces and set in the sun (preferably outside, unless you live in a humid climate) Seriously do not try to reassemble for 2 days! If you turn it on and any part is wet, you take the risk to short something out. Reassemble it. At least it works for me!

May 24, 2010So, I've been having random problems with my phone for a few months now. Nothing debilitating, but enough to cause a hassle. I took it into sprint to see if I could get a refurb or something, and when the tech opened it up, she noticed the water damage indicator was red. Now, not only do I know for sure the phone has never faced water damage, but the sticker on the battery is still in tact. I am one of many who suffer from dust under the cover, so I know that if dust can leak in, moisture would seep in even easier. I looked on ebay to find stickers that I could just replace, but couldn't find anything with the same design/size. Regardless, the Sprint store said there was nothing they could do. Is it worth calling their CS? In all actuality, I'd love it if Sprint would just allow me to upgrade to the Evo with their discount, but i'm sure that's not likely.

May 18, 2010a little background info, rooted my first hero no problem using fresh kitchen, but ended up bricking my phone. got my new hero today from sprint, came home connected it up to 2 different computers to try and root it but in both cases both htc sync and kitchen dont see my phone, but i can run the tests in kitchen and see my sd card if i mount it.my build number is 1.56.651.2 cl85027 release-key and it says my hardware version is 002 if that helps.
