Has an Evo, when he got it I guess he put his contacts on it manually before ever adding gmail account. Now those contacts are designated as "phone" contacts. How can we make them sync to his gmail?

I seem to be having a sync issue with my Droid.When I add a contact to my phone, it doesn't sync into "My contacts" in Gmail; it'll sync into "All contacts". So, a couple of questions:
1) How can I get the phone to add new contacts created on my Droid into "My contacts" in Gmail?
2) I'm trying to understand the point of "All contacts". Why does Gmail want to keep a list of anyone that I've ever sent an email to? Otherwise, it'll be simple enough to just merge the two groups and call it a day.(Note: When I bought my Droid I did NOT have the VZW sales person transfer my contacts or any data from my old Blackberry to my Droid. I used Google Sync on my BB and synced my contacts from my BB to Gmail, then when I got the Droid, it automatically pulled my contacts from Gmail.)(FWIW, yes, I did a search and found two great threads: http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting/15042-how-do-i-push-droid-contacts-back-gmails-my-contacts.html and http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/15069-contacts-dont-really-synchronize.html but I have a different situation than most of those guys and I'd actually prefer to sift through and merge a couple of contacts from "All contacts" to "My contacts" every once in a while than deal with a backup and factory reset.)
i use google contacts to sync my personal numbers to my phone but for some reason everytime i email someone from somewhere like craigslist that anonymous address is saved to my contacts? wtf? how do i stop this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wife's phone - which is a ZTE Blade running 2.2 - is losing it's favorites in the contacts manager each time it syncs to Google Contacts.
I looked up her Google Contacts [URL] and there is no "Starred in Android" group, as it should be. I think it should be automatically created when she fovorites a contac in her phone. But instead, it deletes the starring of the contacts in the phone each time it syncs.
I cleaned up my contact list, rearranged and merged a few etc etc but now those changes are not trickling down to my phone over wifi or 3g. It has been a week and still no luck. Even if I manually sync, I still do not see the changes...

I'm not too bothered about calendars etc, as the missus does that for me! I don't think I've ever used a calendar on a mobile phone or computer in my life!
My primary e-mail address is a hotmail address. Is it possible to have this on the Desire? My understanding is that it's possible, but not for "push" e-mail? Eg. I'd have to check it manually in the mail app?
I do have a Google e-mail address for the Market etc
Is anyone out there having trouble with their contacts not syncing correctly? I'm testing this out right now and have had some issues. When I make a change in my Google "My Contacts" folder or on the phone it fails to update the other. It is set to actively sync in my settings and I have manually synced to no avail.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got the HTC Desire and I like it a lot - except for one thing: It is really awful at handling contacts. I have 250 friends on Facebook and 200 contacts in my gmail contacts and some on my SIM card as well. When I want to send an SMS I really only need access to those on my SIM card, but I get all the information from both gmail, SIM card and Facebook. Some people have 5 entries: One from SIM card, one cell number from Facebook, one home number from Facebook, one email from Facebook and one email from gmail. It is really cluttering up my list and makes it very confusing to send an SMS. Strange thing is: When I enter my "people" list I have set it up so it only shows people on my SIM card.
How can I make "Search People" only show the information from my SIM card? Of course I could just delete my Facebook account from "Accounts and Sync", but that still leaves the gmail information.
When I create contacts in Gmail, they automatically appear on my phone. Contacts I create on the phone do NOT appear on my pc in Gmail. Help is needed, thanks in advance.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got my evo and downloaded froyo pretty much right away. I want to do a factory reset, but that will cause me to lose everything, including my contacts, right? I tried syncing my contacts to my gmail account but they are not showing up when I log in to gmail on my computer. Is there something special I need to do when I log in to gmail to get my contacts? Or is it as simple as just clicking on contacts once you sync them from your Evo?
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst night I got my evo, my first android phone, I was just going over the settings, seeing what control I had in the OS etc. I went into running applications and clicked on gmail and forced it to stop ("until you start it again" from what it said). Since then I have not been able to get push gmail to my evo. I've cleared the data and cache from manage applications to both gmail storage (or something) and gmail. How to get true push email again!
2nd question: I transferred my IPhone contacts into a .csv that I uploaded on my gmail contacts. I synced them from my gmail to my evo. But everytime I go into phone, it only shows me 3-4 contacts compared to the 300+ I synced from my gmail. How can I transfer them from my gmail account, onto my phone?
I want to sync a lot of my contacts that are either on gmail or facebook. The problem I have is that I only want about 10pct of the facebook list and only about 1% of the google contact list. And google has best email while facebook has picture and date of birth. Is there something that will allow me to combine these? how did you go about forming the best contact list?

I didn't download any app for this, and my contacts don't even appear in gmail.Anyone know what is doing this? I'm always worried about what apps send all my info out. Something seems fishy. The icon that appears on the top left is gray and spins.

I have a Gmail Account, Facebook Account, and a University Email Account that I pull my contacts from. All three of them are synced with my phone. The University Email uses Gmail and Google apps. I am trying to figure out a way to sync all my contacts in one place, preferably my normal Gmail account. I understand that you can't auto-sync Facebook contacts to Gmail, but I would like to sync the contacts that I've added to the phone to my Gmail Account.

yes i do get my new emails..but after i try to clear it all out it just pops back up again and again...i even went online and cleared everything out...still does it...
So I have a couple hundred or so contacts on my phone and NONE in gmail...on the sync process it synced over my folders and categories, but not my actual contacts...GMAIL contacts sync is turned on.

According to my phone it synced last on 20/12 even though I have just tried now. If I then create the contact on my phone it will double it up when it does sync!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI synced all my gmail contacts to my phone but now when I go into gmail and check my contacts I have 1 that keeps showing up multiple times. Last time I looked he had over 50 entries. I deleted all but 1 and an hour later he's back another 25 times. I just put the 2.1 leak on my phone yesterday. Maybe that's the problem? Strange that it's only the 1 contact though.

I have a rogers htc android phone and I have been testing the sync functionality of HTC Sync. From what I can tell, HTC sync will only sync contacts created as phone contacts with outlook/windows address book. And will not sync the google contacts to outlook. Is this because the google contacts are saved on the gmail servers and are already synced anyway? Does anybody know of a way to sync google contacts through HTC Sync? Or am I right in assuming that it cannot be done?

However, all my contacts are stored as phone so i know i either need to change them all to Google or export them and import into Gmail (a pain but there you go).
I have no contacts in gmail so i added one and it synced perfectly to my phone.
However, as a test, i added a new google contact to my phone and synced. It didn't show up in Gmail and I believe this can take some time, and this would be fine but it has disappeared from my phone!
It seems as if the sync has wiped out the contact from my phone because it doesn't appear on my gmail account. THis means it only syncs one way which is useless for me as the whole reason for me doing this is to get a backup of my contacts in case of emergencies!
I went into settings/accounts yesterday to stop weather from syncing, and noticed a red exclamation mark next to my 'myname@googlemail.com' account.
and below it says 'sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.'
when i click on the google account it shows 3 tick boxes, all ticked, contacts, gmail and calendar.
but the contacts again has a red exclamation mark by it, and a date for the last sync of 23.08.10 which is when I updated to 2.2 using the RUU (i think).
I can use the marketplace, gmails come in ok, my calendar works fine and all other features of the phone are great. But its not syncing contacts anymore?
presumably I cant delete this account and recreate it as its the one the phone asked for on 1st boot and setup?

I recognize that the HTC EVO doesn't have the "Sync Groups" option on some other HTC Sense phones, where you can sync specific contact groups from Gmail.So from my research in this issue, it is the "My Contacts" group that gets synced over to phones, yes?Provided this is all correct, here's my issue:When I set up my phone it originally synced all 100+ contacts in my "My Contacts" group.Once I did the research & understood how this worked, I went back into Gmail and audited my contacts.Now I only have about 20 users in the My Contacts group the users I want to show up on my phone.However, now that I'm running a Sync on my EVO, the 100+ contacts are not reducing down to the 20 that I selected for the "My Contacts" group.In short, it doesn't appear to be genuinely syncing the group changes that I made on the Gmail web client.
Can anyone advise me what I need to do? Shouldn't the syncing be two-way, as in any changes I make to my contacts on Gmail be showing up on the phone?Little stuck here... hoping it's an easy fix. Not sure if this is because I'm rooted, since I'm pretty sure I did that around 9/5. My calendar and mail sync perfectly, but the contacts section tells me it is experiencing problems. I'm running fresh ROM latest with netarchy kernel.

When I go to settings/Accounts & Sync on my Desire, and sync, it seems to sync from the Desire to my googlemail page on my PC, but not the other way round - which is a problem for me because all the correct contacts are on my PC. It also tends to duplicate or even triplicate most of contacts. On the PC there is the merge setting, but not on the Desire. I've tried deleting all my contacts on the Desire, but syncing doesn't repopulate it.
I have all my appointments on my Desire calendar, which seems to only sync from my PC to the Desire. As I enter my appointments on the Desire, and would like to have them on my PC, this, too, is a problem.
Out of the blue, my Gmail contacts stopped synching to my Incredible. Mail works fine, as does my calendar, but the contacts that were there this morning are still there, but the last sync is about 12 hours old. Tried a manual sync and it doesn't sync...just sits there. Using Google Apps Premier and the Gmail contacts sync fine with my Apple Address book, but just not my phone. I was going to delete the Google account and add it again, but when I try that I get a tutorial that the only way I can do that is to reset the phone to factory defaults. I don't want to reinstall all the apps I have on this phone...surely there is something else going on. Any ideas?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had to get a new EVO because my charging port failed on my first one. When I got the new EVO, I entered my gmail account & all my contacts came back down to the phone. I have re-installed all my programs and Facebook is working. I CAN NOT get my facebook to sync up with my contacts. I go into people, select the link icon, click Link to Facebook and it does nothing. I also went into Menu-Settings-Accounts & Sync and clicked Sync All (my facebook and gmail address are in there)--it runs the sync and I still get nothing. I pulled the battery, I updated my PRL & profile but it won't work. I even uninstalled Facebook, reinstalled it and it still won't work. Does anyone here have any ideas on how I get my FB contacts to sync up with my contacts?
