Android :: Catch When Press Home Button?

Nov 4, 2010

I am trying to catch when the user has pressed the Home button. I thought I could use

protected void onResume()
{
registerReceiver(homeReceiver, new IntentFilter(Intent.CATEGORY_HOME));
}
...
private BroadcastReceiver homeReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver()
{
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent)
{
// logic here
}
};

but that doesn't seem to work. I understand that onPause will be called, but my particular app has some logic that I need to handle separately. Short story is based on some info coming in, the app will display new Activities to the user. To prevent Back button issues, as each Activity hits it's onStop it calls finish on itself. However if the user presses the Home button I do not want the Activity to call finish so that when the user presses the app icon on the home screen or via the Recently run apps list, the last Activity is brought back

Android :: Android - Catch Application Exit By Home Click

Nov 30, 2009

I have an issue with identifying return to application after it was left using Home click. The main purpose of this is to define when do I have to display to user Type Password dialog. So, let's imaging such workflow, User works in application and decides to see what's the weather tomorrow. The User clicks Home button and is transfered to desktop. Now he goes back to My application. At this point we have to verify that our User is still the right one User by proposing him to type password. How can I identify this condition here? (returning after leaving by Home click)

HTC Hero :: How To Solve Home Wireless Error

Jan 8, 2010

The HTC Hero isn't compatible with Wireless N/N+. I figured this out when my Hero couldn't detect my home wireless, so I went to my router home page and changed the wireless setting to 802.11g only instead of 802.11n & 802.11g & 802.11b. This allowed my Hero to 'see' my network. Hope this helps some people.

Motorola Droid X :: Setting Up Wireless Transfers On A Home Network

Oct 6, 2010

I don't know how to set this up on my Droid X and Windows computers (XP Pro and Vista on the Wife's). Can someone point me to a tutorial or better yet, lay out here how to do this? I want to sync or move files between the phone and the computers, move pictures and music back and forth and anything else I desire. I see the DLNA and the Media Share stuff...I just don't know exactly how to set this up. I could probably figure it out, but I thought I'd ask because I'm sure someone already has set this up, knows how to direct the rest of us, and ultimately wants to make our lives easier.

Motorola Droid : Home Wireless Provider Or Relying On An Extender?

Jan 30, 2010

Well, after reading these forums for a month, I broke down Tuesday and grabbed myself a DROID! On the plus side, it's EVERYTHING you guys said it would be and more...

On the minus side, even though the Verizon rep, according to their map, shows A+ service in my area, I get nothing. Zero. Zilch. Notta.

Fortunately, Verizon is about 6 minutes from my home, so a rep (props to Verizon!), came out to verify. He confirmed, no service.

They sold me an Extender at half price ($125 total -- but ok, why not free?), and that seems to work for the phone service. Went from no bars to 4 bars, and I'm using my wifi for web surfing.

I used the phone at work and showed it off like a proud daddy with a newborn baby.

On Friday our home internet was out, so that meant that we had no Droid phone and no Droid web over wifi, since the extender works only with broadband. That was an eye-opener. Almost scary. It's weird how disconnected and quiet it feels when you don't have that "connected" feeling to the outside world, even though we are less than 10 minutes from the big city!

Fortunately, my wife has a cellphone through another carrier, so at least we had something to use in case of emergency.

Bottom line, I've grown to respect you guy's opinion. If this situation was happening with you, would you keep the Droid or look for something else that you knew would always have reception in your home without depending on your home wireless provider or relying on an extender?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Phone Won't Connect To My Home Wireless System / Why Is So?

May 20, 2010

I can't figure out why my Hero won't connect to my home wireless system.
I'm able to connect in other hotspots around town but for some reason not in my own home.
I have my router set up with WPA-Personal security and after numerous times attempting to connect by entering that god awful encryption key (learned how to cut & paste on the Hero) no luck.
Reading other threads on this subject I took someone's advise and reset the router to use WEP security with the same results.
I have a wireless laptop and printer in the household that use my wireless system just fine. Why won't my Hero play nice?

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: WiFi Worked Fine But Not Connected To Home Wireless

Oct 29, 2010

I had a new phone that the phone company forced me to block by not giving me the correct code for unlock (which I paid the phone company for), and they said sorry and after 5 mths with a new phone in a box (while in another country and not being able to use it), they decided to exchange the phone. They exchanged the phone and wouldnt give me a new one since the original problem wasn't reported before 7 days after purchase, but 9 days pff. The exchange is refurbished or something but is perfectly new looking and works amazingly well.

It connected to like 2-3 networks while I was away in that country getting the phone changed and now I'm back home and it will not connect to my home connection. I have changed every thing around and back and I have verified all settings, WiFi on and off. Hard reset - it will not connect. It says searching and then connection and then disconnected etc. Doesn't even say obtaining IP addy or anything. It doesn't say anything or give errors at all, it just will not connect.

HTC Eris :: Wireless Tether - Ad Hoc Connections For Wireless Mouse

May 27, 2010

The main reason i wanted a rooted phone was so i could connect to my laptops ad hoc network and use a program for wireless keyboard and mouse. i cant really afford the real thing at the moment and with my laptop hooked up to my flat screen its kind of necessary to have..

So ive rooted my phone and tried a few roms. currently i have this one: [ROM] [05/18/2010] Tainted Vanilla V1.4 OVERCLOCKED - xda-developers

I always run into the same problem though. wired or wireless, i cant get it to connect right. wired never works in any way but i dont really care about that. wireless however shows some signs of working. it shows some data has been sent, not received though. and my computer will detect and connect to it, but seems to lose the signal after a few moments. when i bring up a browser it doesnt even look like something might load. it just says im offline. could someone help me with this?

The other part of this problem is i really just want to connect to my computers ad hoc network and use a wireless keyboard and mouse program. none of them seem that great unfortunately.. recommendations are appreciated. but my biggest issue is that i cant seem to connect to an ad hoc network. i believe my phone detected it only once while i was on the "white widow" rom, but could never quite connect..

I plan on waiting the full 24 hours before i put the batteries back in and turn them on. I started reading some posts on other forums about how people have messed up their phones with water damage after installing the IS. Just wanted to see if anyone was having any trouble after installing the IS.I tried not to use alot of water, but there was some water coming out from under the IS when i was squeegeeing the bubbles out.Going to be a worrisome 24 hrs.

Android :: Copy Protection Invisible App

Jul 5, 2010

I have an app with Copy Protection on. Since a number of users have reported being unable to find the app on Market since upgrading to 2.1, I have researched the issue and copy protection seems to be the culprit. Turning off copy protection is the answer, but it seems that it leads to file access problems and can require a reinstall, which is not a very good user experience.

However, this ought to have been fixed in 1.6 which means I should be able to turn off copy protection and everything is ok. But some people have still encountered this issue and their users had to reinstall. So, my question is this, if I turn off copy protection, will all users have to reinstall the app? Will only 1.5 users have to reinstall (30%)?

Android :: Invisible Alert Dialog?

Oct 22, 2010

Believe me, I am not trying to create an invisible AlertDialog. But I believe I have one. I'm not making this up. Behavior: main activity starts and is completely unresponsive. No dialog appears. No Force close/ANR appears even after much time in this state. But if I push the back button, it becomes responsive again. This does not occur when debuggable is true in the manifest, so I can't investigate using the debugger. But I found out the following with log statements. MainActrivity:OnCreate starts another activity, a welcome screen. Main Activity: OnResume is called while the other activity is visible. OnResume creates the dialog and calls dlg.Show(); WelcomeActivity is dismissed. MainActivity:OnResume is called. The OnResume method is smart enough to note that the dialog has already been shown and does not create it again. MainActivity is unresponsive. No dialog in sight. When I push the back button, a log statement confirms that the OnCancelListener is called on the dialog. This is Nexus One with 2.2.1. As cool as an invisible dialog is, I'd rather not have it. Can I fix it?

Android :: Possible To Set Items In Listview Invisible?

Jul 20, 2010

I have a listview that's using a custom adapter. I want to dynamically show/remove items from the listview. I've tried everything inside the getView() method in my view adapter. I've tried doing setVisiblity(View.GONE) on the view I'm returning. And it infact doesn't draw the view, but it allocates space for the view and it's just a blank black space.

Is this even possible to set items in listview invisible?

It looks FANTASTIC. It took him about 3 minutes to do! They did have their own bottle of some liquid not the standard one that came in the package. Anyway, if you have trouble or want it done right, have them do it!
