HTC EVO 4G :: Camera Settings - High Better Than Fine?
Aug 5, 2010
For the life of me can't tell which one is better! Have taken shots in both and can't tell...and I can't remember what I had it set for before the 2.2 upgrade. Which has the best picture?

In my application users take photos with an Activity that implements SurfaceHolder.Callback. The uri.toString() is then passed as an extra to a subsequent Activity that displays the image. All fine, except for in Android 1.6 the jpgs on the sdcard have a strange noise when looking at them through mac finder or win explorer after mounting the sdcard. The images have purple and yellow stripes on their upper half. Fine on camera gallery.
Here's some relevant code.

Just got Camera 360 and I'm having some trouble on my EVO. I'm shooting in high quality and in 1280x960 resolution but when I download the pics to my laptop they are coming out 424x320. I bumped up the resolution and same thing, small pics. The stock camera is working fine shooting at 1280x768 resolution

I was wondering if people with the Xperia X10 that also own other high end phones, could take a photo in different settings (different lighting etc) of the same photo with both phones. I was just wondering how good the camera really is compared to other high-end phones. I sold my other phones so I cannot do it, but I would be excited to see some results

I am a big fan of mythbusters and i'll bet that many of your are too. I like all those high speed camera shoots and i was thinking if would it be possible to make an app to use the camera to shoot high speed videos. I am not thinking like professional high speed video (those go up to millions of fps) but more like up to 1000 or 500. The desire should be able to shoot hd 720p video (lets hope with the next update) and may be would be possible to to make lower resolution high speed videos. I think the cpu is enough, but would the camera be able?

I'm Trying to fine tune the Camera settings and was wondering if you guys changed the settings around and got better Pictures/Video and what did you change your settings to? I'm more concerned about fine tuning the video Settings even though i know both the Camera/Camcorder share the same settings.

My speaker buzzes all the time on my phone (not the speaker phone - it works fine). It's not a network buzz, it's a vibration buzz of the metal or speaker. The center camera is also off-center a little bit, which makes me think something up there is off-center, misglued or loose.
We have two other evos and neither of them buzz on the same call. I called the Sprint Nav Voice Address thing from all 3 phones since that would be the exact same voice and words every time. Only mine buzzes. The other two don't have the camera problem either.

Has anyone found any extra settings for the EVO camera?I had an HTC Touch Pro and I found a registry patch/program on another forum that enabled an extra "Sports mode" for the HTC camera. It would take a series of pictures rapidly to capture quick action. Is there anything like that for the EVO camera? Also, the HTC camera software for the Touch Pro had a "Panorama mode" that allowed you to take 3 pictures side-by-side and stich them together. Really gonna miss that feature if it can't be enabled on the EVO.

Please post your camera setting for the evo and why you use it so we can get the Perfect Camera settings. My pictures seem to be a bit bland and dark so I increased brightness and saturation. Pictures tend to be a bit too sharp so I lowered it and iso just seems to make my pictures clearer. I dont know much about iso

I don't know very much about photography but want to get the most out of the camera that I can. My question is pretty simple: What is the best configuration of camera settings on the Incredible that would give it the best quality photos for day to day casual picture taking?

What are the best general settings to use on the camera?I always use manual focus where you have to touch the screen to focus where you want the lense to focus on, everything else is stock I think.Be interested to see your settings if you think you have it perfect or at-least as good as you can get with the camera

Does anyone know if there is built in support for more advanced camera functionality within the Android API? I am speaking specifically about settings such as: Pseudo ISO Shutter Speed Aperture
Since the image is raw I have been planning on doing it in a post processing step as that is the common approach with digital imaging, yet I do not want to waste time recreating something which already exists. If anyone knows of a built in functionality in the Android 2 API.

I am trying to determine whether 8mp 4:3 is better than 6mp 16:9.
6mp seems to be bigger but I'd like to use 8mp. Which one is optimal?
On a side note is there a way to view videos recorded on the X10 in landscape mode rather than in portrait?

I'm really struggling with the camera on the x10. I was expecting going from tocca ultra to SE, (both 8.1) to be quite similar in quality, but this ain't the case. Picture is half the size of the screen and pics during night are awful!! Cant even seem to find the flash.

I really love the Vibrants camera for outdoor pictures. However, I'm becoming increasingly frustrated at the picture quality in indoor settings, especially in low light. There are sooo many ways to tinker the settings!!! What makes for the best quality pictures in indoor, low-light settings?
I always use my cell phone camera as my primary camera. I love my Vibrant, but the camera quality is really making me consider going to a different device.

Just wondering what everyone is using for camera settings. I'm getting great pictures outdoors but my pictures taken inside have a lot of noise (don't know if that's the term I want but they look fuzzy). I literally know nothing about cameras so I'm pretty hopeless figuring out this problem. And maybe some other camera noobs can get some good ideas from this thread too

1. after taking a picture, and clicking on the thumbnail to view it, have the phone let you view it in portrait, not landscape only.
2. on board image resizing, the 5, 3 and 2mp options dont cut it. let us choose 640x480(all MP's), 800X600(all MPs) 1024x768, etc..
3. when in camera settings, when you click back to get back to the options it closes the whole settings slider. which is annoying.

I have developed an application which has tabActivity using SDK 1.0 r2.
1st Tab contains List view. -> the list contains some images
2nd and 3rd contains some webviews.
The app works fine on G1 mobile.
Today I downloaded SDK 1.5 and ran the same app on SDK 1.5.
The app got crashed when I scroll down/up the list items very fast (fling)
code:............
I am not understanding the above error log.
Then I experimented some thing like this: I removed the TabActivity, just shown only list activity. Then I scroll down/up the list items. Then there is no crash.
