HTC EVO 4G :: Battery Issue Related To Wifi Update

Jul 4, 2010

I've notice over the last 3 days that I seem to be having some battery issues post update. I've got a V3 phone purchased on launch day. I've never had battery issues, usually get around 14-16 hours per charge before the update. After last weeks update it seems that my battery life has gone downhill to the point where i'm lucky if I get 10 hours.

I notice that if i look at my usage using #*#*4636*#*# that it shows the the system running constantly and the time spent without sleeping is a very high percentage. I've also notice that my wifi on and wifi running percentages are the same. It seems when i leave wifi on (which i have for the most part since i got the phone) it's always connected and killing my battery. What could have happened after the update to cause this? I know the OTA was supposed to fix the facebook sync issue, but i tried doing that fix any way.

Samsung Epic 4G :: Battery Won't Go Into Sleep Mode (battery Drain Related)

Sep 24, 2010

Many of us have experienced some battery life fall out since the last update. I mentioned this in the battery life thread but I thought it deserved it own topic. I have an app that I downloaded called battery status. it has a battery history. and it says time without sleeping 7h 10m 25s ago. Thats exactally when I unplugged my phone. This explains why I am seeing 2-3% per hour loss while not using the phone and while in airplane mode. Before the update I could keep the phone in airplane mode, not usre it, and leave work with over 94% battery life. So this proves that somehow the phone is not going into sleep mode... I can guarantee that everyone else in that is experiencing battery drain since the sept 16th update is due to this reason. The question is... why the hell is this happening and why won't the phone go into sleep mode?

Nexus :: GPS Not Working In Maps - Related To Update

Nov 15, 2010

My phone hasn't been able to locate a GPS signal when using Google Navigation/Maps for about the past five days. I only really noticed this problem last Thursday... which seems about the same time I received the latest update. The timing would indicate the two are related?

The GPS is turned on, and the satellite icon displays on the toolbar. The phone displays "Searching for GPS" at the bottom. I'm running Locale, and it continues to recognize conditions based on location data... so it would seem the GPS is still working for that, at least.

HTC Hero :: Any Way To Delete Programs Related To 2.1 Update?

Jul 22, 2010

After the update, when I open uninstaller I can see these two programs relating to the 2.1 update.

com.htc2.1-update1
and
android system 2.1-update

I am wondering If I can delete the "com.htc2.1-update 1" as both are pretty large files. Will this effect the android system 2.1 update? or is this the "set up" that can be deleted once installed.

HTC EVO 4G :: Will Using WiFi Actually Save Battery?

Jun 7, 2010

Ok I'll admit it I've been watching Engadget's live blog of the iPhone 4 debut. Something interesting stuck out at me however. In one of the keynote slides, Jobs pointed out the iPhone actually gets better battery life while on WiFi vs 3G. Normally I switch WiFi off when I'm not using data, syncing will still access 3G when I'm at home and I'll do occasional browsing at home as well. Would I be better off accessing data using WiFi when available rather than 3G? I guess a better way to pose the question is, does the 3G radio use more power then WiFi?

HTC Incredible :: WiFi And Battery Consumption

Sep 26, 2010

As an experiment I set all my internet apps - backup assistant, gmail, people, calendar, news, weather, amazon, stocks, facebook, etc, etc, ETC, to not automatically update, sync, refresh or do anything on the internet without my say-so. I then turned off my phone, put a full charge on it and turned it back on again to reset the timer for Settings > About phone > Battery > Battery use. For the next 6 hours I made a few phone calls while I was not in range of any wifi; I used a few local (non-internet) apps like calculator and stopwatch and camera but I did NOT use any internet apps. At the end of that time "battery use" showed Wi-Fi at 30%, Cell standby at 28% and voice calls at 6%. So why is WiFi so high? Is that just from some "keep alive" or beacon or polling feature? Or is there some app or process I don't know about using the WiFi connection, and how do I tell?

Android :: Battery - Wifi 3g Gps Schedule?

Sep 20, 2010

Is there any app's out there that you can put your wifi 3g gps etc on a schedule. Mainly to turn off like 12:00 AM to save battery, and turn back on at whatever time you set? I know there are some that will turn your wifi and 3g (user set) off if your battery gets below a certain point (user set) but these are like $3.00. To me it seems like a rip off, since its such a simple app... Anyways does anyone know of an app like this, if not would anyone be interested in developing it? Seems simple for someone who knows how to create app's. The reason I think this would be better than the battery manager's that just shut your data wifi and gps off after your battery hits a certain % is because sometimes your battery will be just charged but you will go to sleep at night leaving your wifi/3g on and your battery will drain until it hits whatever %, then the manager will turn your data off. Meanwhile you just lost a whole lot of battery that you didnt need to.

This just popped up my on my twitter. Y5 Battery Saver Keeps Wi-Fi On Only Near Trusted Spot. When you connect to wifi, it'll remember the rough location (without GPS). Periodically it'll tap back into that location and if you are near it it'll flip on WiFi so you can connect. If you aren't near an area you've connected too before, it'll keep wifi off.

HTC Incredible :: Different WiFi Networks And Battery Life?

I started using WiFi exclusively at home and my office after reading about the benefits on here. I noticed a tremendous increase in battery life. But when I'm on WiFi at my gf's parents house, the battery drain isn't even about the same as 3G it seems like it is much worse. What could be causing this? The signal strength is often better at this location than home/office so that shouldn't be the problem.

Motorola Droid :: GPS - BT - Wifi Battery Drain When Not In Use

Feb 15, 2010

Just to clarify, is there in fact battery pull and drain from BT, Wifi and GPS even if you are not actually using them as there no app running needing them and no icon showing them active in the menu bar?

I am curious if they are sending out polling or searching signals and thus, still draw the battery down? It seem they must, agreed?

Is it a substantial pull? I kind of want to leave them all on, but have started the habit of having them off and just using a widget to turn each on - 1 by 1 - as needed.. but that is kind of a PITA and I wonder if it is not even necessary?

General :: Toggling WiFi On And Off Drain Battery?

Jun 3, 2013

Will toggling Wi-Fi on and off drain your battery? I'm asking this because I read:

[URL]...

Essentially, you want your Wi-Fi sleep policy to be "Never" because when the Wi-Fi sleep policy is "Always," your phone searches for Wi-Fi more often and that drains battery (I think that's what it is saying).

At the moment, I toggle the W-Fi on every time I'm using it and off as soon as I'm done using it in an attempt to save battery. I'm not sure if this actually works or it's actually draining my battery because it would search for Wi-Fi every time I toggle it on.

On my Samsung Galaxy S4, I can't find Wi-Fi sleep policy as mentioned in the article, but I found "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep." Am I supposed to set this setting as "Always" to save battery life?

I toggle Air View and Smart Gestures on a frequent basis as well--not sure if I should do that too.

HTC Incredible :: Use WiFi / GPS For Location Setting? (Battery Life)

May 3, 2010

Do you use "Use wireless networks" or "use GPS" for your location setting, with an eye towards preserving battery life? I've heard that using GPS can be better on battery life because it only draws power when an application needs to use the GPS (which shouldn't be too often). I also heard that the wireless network setting uses more power because it is constantly using power.
