I just noticed this today but cant figure out how it works. Right above the caps lock button and below the A is XT9 grayed out. Why is that there? I thought it might be a shortcut to that keyboard but cant figure it out.

I've noticed a couple of bugs in the stock keyboard for the 2.1 leak: In portrait mode, if you overshoot the space bar, and press underneath it, it causes the keyboard to close. And in landscape mode, if you press the grey area to the right of the "L" key, it does the same. Now that I verbalize it, it seems more like the sensitivity areas for the home/menu/return/search keys may be a little larger than they were in 1.5, maybe even extending nearly into the keyboard. I notice myself getting kicked out of typing a lot more due to this than I did with 1.5. I've tried recalibrating but that doesn't seem to help.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo yesterday my phone was working fine. No problems at all. But for some reason when I woke up this morning it started acting up. First, my phone would just freeze on me for awhile and then unfreeze like nothing happened. Second, my screen turned completely black twice for no apparent reason. And third, I can't even type using Swype or the stock keyboard anymore! It's either I can type but it won't show.. or I just can't type anything at all as if it's stuck.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis has happened to me three times since getting my phone a little over a month ago. The four signal bars at the top go gray and an 'X' appears over the top of them. After this happens, all of my applications force close. The first time this happened, I took my phone to Verizon and they said they have never seen or heard of this happening so they just swapped out my phone for a brand new one. This worked for a day, until the same thing happened. Instead of waiting in line at Verizon for 3 hours again, I called customer service. The lady said it could be from an app. So I just decided to do a hard reset on my phone. It has worked for about 2 weeks and now its at it again.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with the stock keyboard on my Eris. I don't really like the HTC keyboard so I installed the vanilla keyboard and switched defaults and whatnot. However, some apps (like "setup" for example) switch it back to the HTC keyboard and then I have to go back into HTC Sense and switch it and everything which is a pain. I know that the easy answer is "don't use those apps" though I really just want a permanent fix for it. Anyway to do this?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to search around but I'm not coming up with anything Is this possible to do?I miss being able to long-press a key to get its "shift" key (numbers, symbols, etc) instead of having to press the 123 key to switch layouts every time.I also liked how the "click" sound wasn't as loud as the typewriter-like sound on the non-Sense keyboard yes I like to have the sound and vibrate on - makes it feel like more of a button press instead of nothing I tried Swype before and still ended up going back to the HTC keyboard before I rooted. Are there any similar options? (or can I find the HTC keyboard apk anywhere??)
View 8 Replies View RelatedFrom what information I can gather from the web, android browser shortcuts are comprised of MENU + X combinations. Is there an equivalent for the Eris? I do not see how this works given the lack of a real keyboard. To open the keyboard take a separate action and when holding MENU to then click the appropriate letter, all you get is the menu.

I have force closed some apps, but this still does not allow me to move to sd card. Can any app like Flash Player be moved to sd card and function correctly? View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having no luck deleting some pics that I no longer need on my phone. I had previously created a new folder called Stuff using ES File Explorer where I had temporarily stashed these pics. This folder is visible when I go into the Gallery, as are folders named Camera and Messaging. Some of these stashed pics were copied from Camera and some from Messaging...so like a dummy, I have the same pics showing up in three different places.
Anyway, I finally decided today that I wanted to delete those pics. I opened the Stuff folder in the Gallery, menu selected all, then hit delete. The screen flashed momentarily, then all the images reappeared. I tried the same thing again, but no luck. I even deleted the Stuff folder while in ES File Explorer, but it still shows up when I go into the Gallery. When I opened the other folders, Camera and Messaging, when I try to delete the pictures, the Delete option is grayed out.
I have no idea why, but I then went into ES File Explorer /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails (had to select the option to view hidden files/folders) and wondered if maybe it was just the thumbnail images which still remained. So I deleted those too. Still no luck.
What am I doing wrong. Where do I have to go, or what do I have to do, to delete this stuff permanently?
I know that the Sense UI keyboard is supposed to be pretty good, but I'm wondering if I should download Better Keyboard.

Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

- Added option to disable notification icon

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.

Would any1 be able to copy and upload the stock browser from Android 1.5? read somewhere that the Gmail issue would MAYBE be an Incompatibility with the Internet App, wanna try some things out.

- When i receive a picture message, its displayed in a slideshow and only have 5 seconds to view it before it disappears.
HOW DO I DISABLE THAT OR ADD MORE TIME TO VIEW IT?
- I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to save a picture i receive,

My daughter and I both got Eris' [Erii?] with Verizon's 2 for 1. I noticed while loading some stuff to hers last night though that when you type on the keyboard, you don't get the letters popping up (i.e. on mine, when I hit a letter on the keyboard, it pops up a bubble showing what letter I hit for a half second or so, this doesn't occur on hers).I've looked everywhere I can find but don't see anywhere to turn that on/off. Any suggestions?
