HTC EVO 4G :: Froyo Keyboard Vs Themed Stock Keyboard?
Nov 15, 2010
I've recently flashed Myn's Warm RLS3 ROM and would like to use the Froyo keyboard vs the themed stock keyboard. How hard/in dept is the process to change colors on a keyboard? Are there any Froyo keyboard themes for download that I'm overlooking? I've tried Google with no success

So I upgraded to Froyo last night. Very nice update, amazing how fast this new version of android is. Along with some of the enhancements already mentioned, it seems the stock keyboard is much more accurate and I find my self not deleting so many letters.

I updated to the rooted FroYo, and I'm not seeing the voice input button on the stock keyboard anymore, it's been replaced by a button that toggles between english and spanish. Is there another way to access it so I can text or email by speaking to my phone? Did everyone else have this happen with the stock ROM, or is this a root issue?

I have recently attempted to install LordManhattan's keyboard [URL] on my rooted Samsung Galaxy S3, but it will not show up with the theme I am using (Lucid theme). Whenever I revert back to the standard Holo theme, it shows up fine.

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

For those of you that are familiar with better keyboard. I was wondering about an easy way to switch from the t9 keyboard to the regular qwerty keyboard. I was under the impression that swiping left would toggle between the 2 but all that does is bring me to the numbers and symbols keyboard. I've been changing back and forth to the android keyboard because its faster than going into the better keyboard settings.

I just d/l the froyo keyboard for the Evo4g. I absolutely love it. I find it much better than the stock. I also have swype which I love as well, but.. I have to be in the mood for it, heh, if that even makes sense. I'm not sure if it's because of the evo's screen real estate, but it seems so smooth and accurate. Either way, I love it. Anybody else using it? I'm sure rooted users already have it, but for those who are NOT rooted, it's a nice feature. I found it, by going to a website for the evo, which im sure you all have been on before. It's Good and EVO | Raising hell with the HTC EVO 4G for those who have not. Keyboard made available from xda-developers. Here's the page for the froyo keyboard for those who are interested in trying it out. Stock Froyo keyboard available for HTC EVO 4G

I've been looking everywhere for the stock Evo keyboard. I flashed Myn's Warm 2.2 (awesome ROM), but I really would like the stock keyboard. Does anyone know where I can find this, or post a link?

I don't get it. My phone is fast. I mean everything is fast. Screen transitions, page loads, benchmark scores, everything except the HTC keyboard V26 for froyo from XDA. Including calibration tool. I installed from SD and the APKs do not show in system/apps. Why is HTC_IME MOD lag on my fast froyo Droid?

I've flashed with the new froyo ROM with senseUI and am finding it brill. One quirk though is that when typing out a text message, there's no key in the bottom left to minimize/esc from the keyboard. If I use the Back key it exits the app (chomp). It's still beta!)

Alls well that goes well with the new Froyo leak.
However there is something that is annoying me with the default keyboard.
Now there is a "Voice" search button on the bottom left of the Froyo keyboard, where there used to be a simple "Down" button that would hide the keyboard. I don't know if pressing the back key is something I can get used to for all of those login forms.
Is there a way to bring back that "Down" button?

I am having a problem with the stock keyboard on my Eris. I don't really like the HTC keyboard so I installed the vanilla keyboard and switched defaults and whatnot. However, some apps (like "setup" for example) switch it back to the HTC keyboard and then I have to go back into HTC Sense and switch it and everything which is a pain. I know that the easy answer is "don't use those apps" though I really just want a permanent fix for it. Anyway to do this?

Is there a way to change the stock keyboard to one like the iPhones? I've gotten very used to the iPhones keyboard and I absolutely hate the DHD's. How do I get Arabic keyboard? It's not in the settings. Is there a way for me to delete stock apps that come with the phone but don't have a delete option? Is there a way to have calendar events show up on the lock screen? Why is it that the Market place does not ask for password when trying to download an app? Is there a way to set it to do so?

I've recently rooted and am looking at getting rid of that irratating 'Choose input method' in the notification bar every time I type something.
I use Swype and the other options are Google Voice Typing (which I can untick) but Samsung Keyboard is greyed out, meaning that every time I type something I get the choice of Swype or Samsung Keyboard.
I've frozen the Samsung keyboard and now I don't get the notification and also Swype starts up quicker. Good so far. The thing is, I'm wondering if when I restart my phone my PIN lock screen uses the Samsung Keyboard, in which case I won't be able to enter my PIN. (I've disabled my PIN for the time being as I'm too scared to find out!)

I'm experiencing a problem with SwiftKey - the stock keyboard always shows up as the default after every boot, even though SwiftKey is enabled in settings. I read somewhere that a workaround is to freeze the stock keyboard using Titanium, and convert the SwiftKey app to a systems app. So my question is, how do I do that?
(One X, ARHD 31.3)
I know I can long-click on the correct entry in Titanium's App list to freeze an app, but specifically, what app name do I need to look for (is it Keyboard_english.apk?)
And how do I convert SwiftKey to a system app? I'm not even sure what this means. Do I just have to ensure it's located on internal storage (not SD card)?

I just received my Xperia mini and I'd like to change the keyboard to "landscape keyboard". The user manual says that I have to change the settings to auto rotate for the keypad to function in landscape. I've done this but I still don't have it.

I'm using an MK802 mini PC. I don't have a USB keyboard yet.
When I plug in a wired USB mouse, I can use that to click on the on screen soft keyboard.
But when I plug in the wireless dongle for a USB mouse, the Android soft keyboard doesn't show anymore (I guess this is because the wireless dongle supports both keyboard and mouse, and tells Android a hardware keyboard is available, so Android doesn't show the soft keyboard).
Any way to ignore this and always show the soft keyboard? Or another keyboard I can download which will always show?

Heres a link to the .apk file, if you dont have it. It works with 2.1, but not 2.2 (force close every 5 seconds)
If someone could edit this to make it work thatd be amazing.
