I switched from hotmail to gmail when I got this eris. Wow, gmail kicks hotmail's butt! My question however is how do I make the text bigger in the Gmail app? Pinch and zoom doesn't work and I can't find and zoom options.

How bad is the lag on the Eris? I am looking into a new phone and the Motorola Droid is a little to big for me and i dont need a bunch of apps for my phone i just need the basics. Is the lag a lot and is it noticeable ?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've had my Eris for about 3 weeks now and I love it generally. But I have this one issue that is now driving me nuts. When I plug it into my Macbook running OSX 10.5.8 and mount the drive, it only appears on the desktop and in Iphoto. It does not appear in ANY Finder window or list. This has not been a problem yet because I've been at work where I have an external monitor in addition to the Macbook's monitor and I can see the Eris on the desktop. But this morning I am at home and have just the macbook. The only place I can see my Eris on the Macbook is in Iphoto which is not helpful to me because I want to move a Voice Recorder file onto the Hard Drive and add some music to the Eris. But I cannot because I can't get at it unless I am in Iphoto.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions?The drive is mounted. And I have tried plugging in, mounting and then unmounting, plugging back in and then mounting again. Nothing.

View 11 Replies View RelatedSo today I was driving in my car with my phone on the space between the gear shifter and the console( Lexus ES300- forget the name of the place). Anyway, I had it there and when I touched it, it was hot to the touch. I checked the Temp and it clocked up to 47.8 degrees Celsius (wish the standard HTC battery widget came with an option to change to Fahrenheit). I was alarmed as it has never gone that high before and I was not doing anything with it while driving (as that would be stupid). An hour later I was driving again and plugged it into the car charger to charge it and it shot back up to mid 40's range. Could it be the sun reflecting off of the plastic?

It was annoying that I couldn't get my Yahoo account set up, then I found instructions on the internet for the manual setup (Thank You to Smilepack, whoever you are!). NOW, my next problem is this: can I delete on email on the Droid without deleting it on my actual Yahoo or Gmail account? My BlackBerry had a "Delete on Handheld only" option. That would really be nice to have.

He's liking more than the Treo I convinced him was outdated but he's having trouble with it calling people while in his pocket. According to him, after he pressing the red button to hang up a call and puts the phone in his pocket, awhile later someone will be on the line, or when he means to ignore a call it'll pick up. He's pretty good with technology.I think I may have posted in the wrong forum? Not sure if this one is Droid specific. I got redirect to this one from another post dealing with a similar issue on an Eris that never got answered.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI dl'd Doubletwist to my computer to sync music from itunes to my Eris. The first step of syncing music from itunes to DT was easy as pie. I literally dl'd DT in less than a minute and a minute later all my itunes songs (not too many actually) were in DT. DT looks almost exactly like itunes, except you buy your songs via Amazon. Anyway, step 2 of getting the music on to the Eris is NOT working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm using Vista, 64 bit, if that makes a difference.

I have 1 gmail for personal (this is my gmail acct that's linked to my calendar, maps etc. this is the one that would be integrated with the phone), and 1 gmail for work emails (I only use this for the emails, no calendar, no sync etc). I would like to + accts on my Eris. Can I do this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was messing with settings last night to help with battery life so I'm pretty sure I messed something up but my Gmail wont sync automatically today. It worked this morning but later on I realized that nothing had come in so I did a manual sync and sure enough I had some missing email. I checked in Accounts and Sync and Background data and auto-sync are checked as well as sync gmail. But it wont push. Anyone have any ideas on what I did? Also I'm using a rooted 2.1 on my Eris.

...I'd like for when I make a change on my Eris or my PC in Gmail for it to propagate to the OTHER...For example, if I get an email on the Eris regarding a purchase I have made, I would like to give it a label and archive it...and have that change reflected in my online account; and vice-versa.
I know I have gone thru and cleaned up my inbox online, but did not see any of those moves/ deletions (apparently not an issue) / changes reflect on my Eris.
Every time someone emails me at my Gmail account their email address is created as a "Google" contact on my phone. How do I stop this? I looked in the settings of my phone and Gmail account and could not find anything. I'm probably just missing something simple.

None of those suggestions made a difference.So to test I sent myself an email and had the GMAIL app open on the ERIS.It sometimes give me a conversation notice but does not actually download the email to the app for a long time. And then only if I force a refresh.I have full 3G where I am so that can't be it. Also, I do no have a task killer and I keep mobile on all the time.The ERIS doeseverything else very well with the exception of e-mail.

I know I disabled my Twitter sync, since it was causing that com.bg type error but wonder why my mail is no longer being pushes. My Yahoo and Exchange seem to push fine but not gmail. View 11 Replies View RelatedI fooled with the Gmail app a bit yesterday, and came to the conclusion that I only get a single audible notification for multiple e-mails, even when they are spread out over many minutes. Going in to the Gmail app and viewing new e-mails seems to be the only thing which resets things so that a new audible alert occurs. (BTW, the testing was performed by sending e-mail from a PC using a non-Gmail account.)Anyone else notice this? Clearing notifications in the notification panel doesn't seem to affect things - I was only able to trigger a new audible alert if I went into the app and opened one of the e-mails.Note that I could observe the same behavior even if the phone wasn't sleeping (e.g. powered by the USB, "never sleep" policy, and with the ddms monitor running).Seems like this should be reported as a bug - if I am purposefully ignoring my phone for whatever reason, there's no way I can tell the difference between one arriving e-mail or twenty.
Separately, I tried to answer the question, "does Gmail push?", but couldn't come to a definitive conclusion - the behavior doesn't seem to be "simple". With only WiFi turned on (even with a "never sleep" WiFi policy), I could observe rather long delays (> 20 min) between sending of e-mail and receipt of email on the handset. (I could do this without touching the handset by passively sniffing WiFi packets "off the air").
The handset does initiate a long-lived TCP connections to Google's servers, and if new mail comes in within five or ten minutes, it is apparent that it is the Google side of thing that starts talking on the idle (virtual) circuit. So, that's a kind of "push"; OTOH, it also looks like the Google servers will time out that virtual circuit (sends TCP reset) after 15-20 minutes.I don't have a way to trace things with WiFi turned off and Mobile Network on - the first thing event that seems to show up (with each new e-mail) in the ddms monitor is activity tagged with "GTalkService". This seems to happen more repeatedly - I only saw delays of 90 seconds or so when using the Mobile Network exclusively.
Is there a way to turn off the audible notification when I get a new gmail? When I first bought the eris, I would get email audible notification all the time, during sleep and work hours. Email is not important to me.I now have gmail notification disabled.So no more annoying audible notifications. But I would still like to get a notification icon without the sound. Is this possible? maybe install a 3rd party email app?
When I made my gmail acct when I first got the Droid Eris I put it in once and never thought about it. Sure I usually use the same basic email address that are about the same if not exactly the same but.. I lost my original phone never sent an email and I cant remember what it was now to put it in my new replacement phone so I can get all my contacts back. I never put in an alternate email so I cant send it that way and I tired everything I can think of. I also called verizon to see if they might have it on file and they said no. Anyway that I can get this withouth knowing the username, having a 2nd email, trying password retrieve and putting in all my usual emails?

Initially this worked fine, but after a few weeks I can no longer sync my calndar - I've tried everything and I"m done. It seems using my google account is easier. So, having said that, since I deleted the gmail calendar, I went into "manage apps" and cleared everything associated with gmail, including my calendar. I then asked me to set up gmail again, and I did. I hoped this would bring the calndar back, but it didn't. So now I'm left without a gmail calendar to sync with.

find my gmail in apps or in my sd card. Calendar syncs as do contacts but no gmail shortcut or app on phone or in market.
Ever since the update last weekend my gmail app will not sync automatically when I get emails into my account. . . I have to hit the menu / sync button every time I want to see if I have new emails. . . before the would come in and I would get a notification within seconds.
Gmail App / Menu / Settings / Email notifications/ is checked ON.
I don't know what to do. . .wish i never did the update.
I love that Gmail emails come right away but my main email is Yahoo (and I have others) is there anyway to set it up for Push - or any other email.

Now when I open my gmail, I need to open each email individually in order to delete it. Is there a way to change this?

I've tried a battery pull a couple times, no luck.Under MENU>ACCOUNTS>MENU>SETTINGS>MANAGAE ACCTS, all looks fine, there's no errors. When I tap the SYNC NOW button, nothing. I guess the next step is to remove and re-add the account. I understand that'll wipe any data on the phone, such as pics and texts. A couple questions:
1. What else will I lose besides pics and texts?
2. Is there any way to back that stuff up/move it to the SD card?
3. Is there another fix to this syncing issue out there that won't wipe the phone?
