HTC Droid Eris :: Continuously Overheating Of Handset

Jul 5, 2010

So today I was driving in my car with my phone on the space between the gear shifter and the console( Lexus ES300- forget the name of the place). Anyway, I had it there and when I touched it, it was hot to the touch. I checked the Temp and it clocked up to 47.8 degrees Celsius (wish the standard HTC battery widget came with an option to change to Fahrenheit). I was alarmed as it has never gone that high before and I was not doing anything with it while driving (as that would be stupid). An hour later I was driving again and plugged it into the car charger to charge it and it shot back up to mid 40's range. Could it be the sun reflecting off of the plastic?

HTC Desire :: Handset Overheating And Restarting

Sep 24, 2010

My Desire is about 2 months old and has began rebooting at random times. At first it only happened if i was on a call whilst charging the phone. The phone cuts out then immediately restarts. The O2 screen appears, then the HTC screen then I have to enter my pin. On some occasions, It happens over and over again before I even get the pin entered. Since then, it has happened when the phone is charging and not being used, as well as when I am on a call, but not charging. The phone gets extremely hot near the bottom. I opened it and removed the battery and it is the phone not the battery that warms up. The battery stays cool. I have restored to factory default and installed no apps, but it still occurs randomly. O2 business said I can only have a re-furbished handset!! how does that work? surely if a product is faulted it should be replaced with a new unit. It was only 6-8 weeks old when i first reported it to them. Also the wall charger seems to get very hot, but only sometimes. Anyone come across anything similar with overheating handset or charger?

HTC Droid Eris :: Handset Doesn't Appear In OSX

Jan 24, 2010

I've had my Eris for about 3 weeks now and I love it generally. But I have this one issue that is now driving me nuts. When I plug it into my Macbook running OSX 10.5.8 and mount the drive, it only appears on the desktop and in Iphoto. It does not appear in ANY Finder window or list. This has not been a problem yet because I've been at work where I have an external monitor in addition to the Macbook's monitor and I can see the Eris on the desktop. But this morning I am at home and have just the macbook. The only place I can see my Eris on the Macbook is in Iphoto which is not helpful to me because I want to move a Voice Recorder file onto the Hard Drive and add some music to the Eris. But I cannot because I can't get at it unless I am in Iphoto.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions? The drive is mounted. And I have tried plugging in, mounting and then unmounting, plugging back in and then mounting again. Nothing.

HTC Droid Eris :: Delete Email Only On Handset?

Jan 30, 2010

I just got my Droid yesterday and so far I like it. It was annoying that I couldn't get my Yahoo account set up, then I found instructions on the internet for the manual setup (Thank You to Smilepack, whoever you are!). NOW, my next problem is this: can I delete on email on the Droid without deleting it on my actual Yahoo or Gmail account? My BlackBerry had a "Delete on Handheld only" option. That would really be nice to have.

HTC Droid Eris :: Handset Butt Dials

Feb 12, 2010

My dad and I did the Buy One Get One Free deal with the Moto Droid and the Eris. He's liking more than the Treo I convinced him was outdated but he's having trouble with it calling people while in his pocket. According to him, after he pressing the red button to hang up a call and puts the phone in his pocket, awhile later someone will be on the line, or when he means to ignore a call it'll pick up. He's pretty good with technology.I think I may have posted in the wrong forum? Not sure if this one is Droid specific. I got redirect to this one from another post dealing with a similar issue on an Eris that never got answered.

HTC Droid Eris :: Double Twist For Music On Handset

Feb 8, 2010

I dl'd Doubletwist to my computer to sync music from itunes to my Eris. The first step of syncing music from itunes to DT was easy as pie. I literally dl'd DT in less than a minute and a minute later all my itunes songs (not too many actually) were in DT. DT looks almost exactly like itunes, except you buy your songs via Amazon. Anyway, step 2 of getting the music on to the Eris is NOT working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm using Vista, 64 bit, if that makes a difference.

General :: Droid 2 Continuously Resetting?

Oct 22, 2011

I've tried calling Verizon about my Droid 2 resetting almost nonstop. I can't make it through a phone call or browse the web or anything without it resetting. I had had my first one for less than a year when it started acting up. Verizon tried sending me a replacement but it did the same thing. Now I'm on my third Droid 2 in less than a year and it's resetting on its own also. I haven't downloaded any apps on this newest replacement so I don't know what's causing it. Could it be my battery or SD card? I'm just at a loss and I really don't want to get a new phone already.

Motorola Droid :: Overheating With Navigation While Charging

May 10, 2010

Has anyone had problems with their Moto Droid overheating while navigating and charging. I noticed that it really was not charging so I went out to my battery app and it showed the temp being 135. I immediately unplugged the phone, shut it off and took the battery out to hold up to the AC vent. I cooled it to below 90 then plugged it back in and it started to charge to completion (100%) without navigation turned on. The problem is if it is not plugged in the screen blanks out without going into the settings to change it. So I removed SETCPU just in case that was the cause and I tried it on my way home from work(20min). When I got home it was at about 118 to 120. So my question is has anyone else experienced this navigating while charging heat thing? Should I be worried about that high of a temperature? Also would you happen to know at what temp your phone fails to charge anymore because of the heat?

Motorola Droid :: Overheating And Phone Restarts

Oct 29, 2010

After months without a random reboot, my phone did it twice consecutively today while I was trying to navigate while streaming music (Pandora) on the way from the airport this morning. It worked perfectly on the 1 hour drive there (also on the round trip going there the previous week), but while I was waiting for the guys I was picking up at the arrival gate, I was browsing the web and still streaming music and my phone just did a "soft" restart (where it doesn't show the Moto logo, just the boot animation). Slightly annoying. At least it gets to the launcher pretty quick still. Then, maybe 30 minutes later on the trip back, it does it again while I'm driving back. This time when it got back to the home screen, it refused to pick up any sort of cell signal like it was in airplane mode, but all the other radios were on (BT and satellite). Toggling airplane mode had no affect on it. So I had to totally reboot my phone to get it to work again. I think it may be heat related, when it came back up the first time, SetCPU read the CPU at 51C/124F and that was immediately after reboot, so it may have cooled down some during that. After the second reboot I brought the clock down to 800 MHz from 1.1 GHz and it was good for the rest of the trip. But I was running the exact same load/apps on it the last trip and the ambient temp in the car was the same. So I wanted to see if there some system log/app that can tell me what process forced the phone to reboot or maybe what the CPU temp was when it crashed, to rule out software. Is there anything like this? If not, does anyone know what the max temp the CPU can handle before it forces a reboot? I'm sure there's a threshold for this, just like there is for PCs (but usually they just throttle instead of shutting down), but I don't know what it is. I would think ~60C would be way too damn hot for a CPU in a hand held device.

Motorola Droid :: Rooted - Device Overheating And Not Charging

Jun 17, 2010

I have a rooted droid running bbv1.0 and Ive had this for a couple of months now. I recently lost my wall charger so I have just been charging it with the data cable and the computer. Today I was gone most of the day and my battery was at 15% when I got home. I plugged it into the computer for about an hour and when I came back it still had the same amount of battery life when I unplugged it to check. I have setcpu and it was doing the failsafe warning (over 120 degrees) a little more than usual today. It got up to about 145 degrees for a minute at one point when I was using the wireless tether with my laptop. It had the failsafe warning when I checked it while charging just a little bit ago. I don't know if the battery is failing or if its a problem with the phone?

I have also tried another SIM card just incase I had a fault with my SIM but it does just the same.

Android :: Continuously Running Thread

Jul 20, 2010

I am continuously running a thread in my activity which fetches lat/ lon information and the overlays on the map are updated dynamically through a handler. The overlays can be varying in number and can change dynamically. The thread is interrupted in onPause().

I am over riding the onTap() method in my Itemizedoverlay, where I want to call a dialog or may be start anothrer activity which describes that particular overlay item.

Every time I click on the moving overlay my app force closes.

I am basically using same onTap() method in http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-mapview.... .

If it is only a Toast message and not starting a dialog/activity then it works fine.

How to stop Flickr from running in the phone and how to bring it back after disabling the app? I installed Flickr on my Droid Rezound. I didnt know it was already on the phone. I installed the Google Play version on top of the already installed version on my phone. I tested it out and decided not to keep it. I uninstalled the Google version and found the app was still trying to upload photos. Did some searching in the phone and disabled the phone version. After that it still tries to upload the photos. I signed out of Yahoo and Flickr and it still tries to upload. It's not that I care if the pics upload, but when I've taken lots of pics the upload gobbles battery life.

Android :: Continuously Update Trackball Coordinates

Jan 9, 2010

I'm trying to figure out how to continuously update the coordinates of the trackball. Right now, I just want to write the values on change to TextViews to understand how it works.

I've been looking at the onTrackballEvent. Right now, I assume that each event passed as an argument to it should be seen as a complete event, that is from the start of the trackball movement to the end. Is this correct? Because if so, the values of x and y will be the same during the execution of the onTrackballEvent body. If this would NOT be the case, I could just use a timer and update the values at a regular interval..

So either I have to somehow interrupt the onTrackballEvent call and write the values, repeatedly over and over again while it is still moving, which seems weird, or...well this is pretty much were my Google search skills and Android knowledge comes to a halt.
