HTC Droid Eris :: Dictionary While Texting

Can anyone tell me how to edit my personal dictionary? My ERIS adds words (usually misspelled) to the dictionary every so often and I need to get in there and clean things up.I type a lot faster than the keyboard can accept keystrokes, so sometimes I notice a misspelled word back about 3-4 lines that I never typed and didn't intend to have in my sentence. It's frustrating but I'm sure there's a fix to it.Thanks to everyone who is providing such helpful information. I'm impressed with the knowledge that is shared and how willing everyone is to help each other out on this forum.

I'm using the regular messaging app and I'm just wondering if there's a way to delete words from the dictionary. I tend to save words that aren't words, and it's gotten to the point where the phone picks the wrong words over the right words.

Does anyone know how Swype updates its dictionary? I know it pulls words from my contacts list, but does it get them from any other source? There are certain words that constantly show up in Swype, even though I have deleted them countless times. "i'd" is a big one. I would never type the word "I" and leave it uncapitalized, and, yet, it somehow keeps reappearing in the dictionary. Certain letter combinations like "nt," "ou," and others continue to show up, even after I've deleted them. That's what has me thinking it's pulling words from something else on the phone. Is there any way to make it stop doing that?

I've looked for other threads about editing Swype's dictionary but have found none, so will ask here: I love using Swype Lite (1.16.12.5228) but have found the dictionary and the little word options popup to be less than helpful. I've tried to add words individually per the instructions saying to add each letter carefully then press the space bar, but the new word doesn't seem to be available the next time. And when I do try to enter 1 letter at a time it automatically adds another letter and spaces to each of the letters I'm trying to tap in. I would love to know if I can access Swype's dictionary through the SD card or wherever, and go in there and edit the shit out of it. Anybody know how, or if it's possible?

I have a Droid Eris and have the spell correction turned on. I noticed that when I type a word that isn't already in the phone's memory, it says that it's saving it. Does anyone know how I can edit that list? It has accidentally saved a couple "words" that aren't really words and I wanted to clear it out.

When I'm texting, often words popup that are nowhere near the word that I have typed or am working on typing out. I know that I can press that down arrow and add a word but how can I delete some of the words that are already there. For example, sometimes, I start a message with "I'm" and the phone types "Um" instead. I have no need for the word "Um" Thanks everyone. Great site btw, I have learned so much here. Also, is there an AutoText app similar to the BlackBerry where I can type a word or series of letters and have it automagically replaced with something else? For example:

We all know that we cannot delete individual words in the dictionary ... however I found in thread in Android Applications that may be somewhat useful. I recently took my phone from Froyo and loaded back the stock 2.1 build.. This was yesterday and the phone has been fine But about an hour ago 3G no longer connects and I cant do any text messages. Any idea what could be wrong. I am re flashing 2.1 back on the phone again right now to see if that makes a difference..

Since I "accepted" the upgrade last sunday (the 16th), I've noticed whenever I send a text I get a quick vibration and a notice in the status bar that the message was sent successfully. Used to be I only got a notice if the message failed (like when I had a poor signal) and then I could re-send when my signal improved... I, personally, find this "message sent successfully" a bit annoying. I looked and looked in the settings, but can't seem to locate where to change this. Can someone help, or am I stuck with this? And, please, if you prefer this new way, let's just agree to disagree right off the bat. You may like it, but I just prefer the "old" way.

I am loving my Eris and looking forward to the Dec 11 update.
I am just wondering if the auto-suggest dictionary is user-modifiable. I use compact QWERTY (like SureType on BB). When I type "we", what comes out is "qe" which is the default word it wants to use. Perhaps I used it once and saved it? How can I delete the words I don't want popping up anymore (especially the ones I may have added)?

I've only seen this mentioned once or twice but one thing that annoys me with the update is the character number that's displayed when typing a text. Why did they have to put a black box counter right in the messaging window when typing in portrait mode? After creating a message, that box covers part of the last word in the first line. And when flipping it to landscape the character box disappears!!?! I shouldn't have to turn the phone to read back what I just typed.The concept of displaying the amount of characters left is a welcome feature but the execution is really poor. I would think it would be obvious to place it in another area outside of the field that you're actually interacting with.

Any e-mail address in the world can send a text message. So why pay for a text plan when you already probably have data plan on your phone?Not sure how much unlimited texts is now but I have an old plan which is $10 dollars a month for unlimited Verizon to Verizon; with 500 texts out of network. So, if I cancel texts on my cell phone plan I can just use the "mail" application that comes with the phone. Use my gmail account and send out texts to numbers and tell my friends when sending me a text just type "username@gmail.com". This way I receive texts from other people through my e-mail and I can also reply back with an e-mail which would really be like a text. You can text from your computer and cell phone.Very useful encase you want to save money. I am thinking about canceling texts on my plan. Maybe you all already knew this. I knew I could send pictures to my phone years ago before I even had a smart phone but I just realized this again and thought about canceling my text plan. What do you guys think?

Does the Eris only allow 10 seconds of video texting? I was playing this morning and, it would only let me send 10sec clips at the lowest setting. Any way to send longer clips?

Has anyone had issues when texting where the text doesn't show up. I use Handcent but even when i revert back to the stock app it still remains. It usually happens when i get 3-5 msgs in quick succession, but sometimes just happens right after i wake it from sleep. Any fixes?

Does anyone else have problems with the screen scrolling without being touched? My eris will scroll all the way to the left and will stay there for a few seconds. The most annoying thing is when I am texting it will scroll to the beginning of the message and then freeze and will continue to force close until I turn the phone off then back on then it does the same thing. This is the 2nd Eris I have had and if I cant upgrade soon then Im down-grading back to my LG.

So when I try texting in Portrait mode, it acts as if my trackball is stuck to the left, now I used to have this problem only when it was charging, but now it's more often.
Also on my home pages, it will slide all the way to the far left one. And sometimes my messaging app will lag, then force close.

Ive been using the HTC ime as my keyboard for a while but recently, it constantly deletes the dictionary. Ive also noticed during this time a drop in performance(have to reload all of widgets on homescreen when i go back to homescreen) Running P3 1ghz and 1.0.1 nexbeast.

It sucks that you can't delete words that are in the Dictionary. I get so annoyed when I am typing out a word and it puts a totally different word in place. You ever type out one of the days of the week? It ALWAYS puts a (s) at the end! For example I want to say I am having a Super bowl party on Sunday and it will put Sundays. Another thing that drives me crazy I could say "Maybe I will come over later" and it says "Maybe I Will come over later" Why does WILL have to be spelled like a name in this instance? I add lower case "will" to my dictionary but it still reverts back to the other one when I am typing.

Ever since I got 2.1 my phone started adding words to the dictionary by itself. In some cases this is helpful but as it turns out its annoying. It mainly adds capitalized versions of words. for example when I'm in the middle of a sentence it says "You" instead of "you" etc. I delete it, but it keeps coming back. Any way to permanently stop this from happening?
