May 29, 2010How to use caps lock on the eris? also sometimes when I type a word in very fast it starts capitalizing all/some of the letters in the word.. weird

HTC Hero :: Turning On Caps While Texting
Aug 30, 2010At first my Hero was lagging a bit on turning caps off when texting so my first two letters would always be caps. but now i have to manually turn it off every time or the whole message will be in caps. it NEVER turns off automatically.I'm using the phone keypad setting BTW. when i turn it sideways the keypad doesn't have capitalization problems but sometimes it doesn't show what I'm typing and i have to get outta the keyboard to see it. besides those two problems my phone is fine. i can accept the not being able to see the message as I'm typing as lagging but the auto-caps has to be a setting right?

HTC Droid Eris :: Touchscreen - Typing A Text - Cant Select The Letter Z Or The Shift - Caps Key
May 10, 2010For the past week or so I've been having issues with the bottom left corner of my touch screen (in portrait). If I am typing a text I cant select the letter Z or the shift/caps key. I also have a hard time selecting shortcuts in that corner. I am running the 1st 2.1 leak if that makes any difference. Is anyone experiencing touchscreen issues that may have any solutions or should I get a replacement? Does anyone think the OTA might fix this? BTW, I've calibrated my phone several times to no avail. It also happens in landscape but it shifts to the bottom right corner of course!

Jun 16, 2010I really like better keyboard pro except for one thing: when i type the phrase/word "lol" it always suggests "LOL" (all caps) and auto types it when i press space (auto-correct feature) the only problem is i almost never capitalize this word, any way to get it to stop doing this without disabling auto-correct?

This was yesterday and the phone has been fine But about an hour ago 3G no longer connects and I cant do any text messages. Any idea what could be wrong. May 19, 2010Since I "accepted" the upgrade last sunday (the 16th), I've noticed whenever I send a text I get a quick vibration and a notice in the status bar that the message was sent successfully. Used to be I only got a notice if the message failed (like when I had a poor signal) and then I could re-send when my signal improved... I, personally, find this "message sent successfully" a bit annoying. I looked and looked in the settings, but can't seem to locate where to change this. Can someone help, or am I stuck with this? And, please, if you prefer this new way, let's just agree to disagree right off the bat. You may like it, but I just prefer the "old" way.

Jun 15, 2010Can anyone tell me how to edit my personal dictionary? My ERIS adds words (usually misspelled) to the dictionary every so often and I need to get in there and clean things up.I type a lot faster than the keyboard can accept keystrokes, so sometimes I notice a misspelled word back about 3-4 lines that I never typed and didn't intend to have in my sentence. It's frustrating but I'm sure there's a fix to it.Thanks to everyone who is providing such helpful information. I'm impressed with the knowledge that is shared and how willing everyone is to help each other out on this forum.

Dec 14, 2009I've only seen this mentioned once or twice but one thing that annoys me with the update is the character number that's displayed when typing a text. Why did they have to put a black box counter right in the messaging window when typing in portrait mode? After creating a message, that box covers part of the last word in the first line. And when flipping it to landscape the character box disappears!!?! I shouldn't have to turn the phone to read back what I just typed.The concept of displaying the amount of characters left is a welcome feature but the execution is really poor. I would think it would be obvious to place it in another area outside of the field that you're actually interacting with.

Feb 26, 2010Any e-mail address in the world can send a text message. So why pay for a text plan when you already probably have data plan on your phone?Not sure how much unlimited texts is now but I have an old plan which is $10 dollars a month for unlimited Verizon to Verizon; with 500 texts out of network. So, if I cancel texts on my cell phone plan I can just use the "mail" application that comes with the phone. Use my gmail account and send out texts to numbers and tell my friends when sending me a text just type "username@gmail.com". This way I receive texts from other people through my e-mail and I can also reply back with an e-mail which would really be like a text. You can text from your computer and cell phone.Very useful encase you want to save money. I am thinking about canceling texts on my plan. Maybe you all already knew this. I knew I could send pictures to my phone years ago before I even had a smart phone but I just realized this again and thought about canceling my text plan. What do you guys think?

Apr 3, 2010Has anyone had issues when texting where the text doesn't show up. I use Handcent but even when i revert back to the stock app it still remains. It usually happens when i get 3-5 msgs in quick succession, but sometimes just happens right after i wake it from sleep. Any fixes?

Sep 29, 2010Does anyone else have problems with the screen scrolling without being touched? My eris will scroll all the way to the left and will stay there for a few seconds. The most annoying thing is when I am texting it will scroll to the beginning of the message and then freeze and will continue to force close until I turn the phone off then back on then it does the same thing. This is the 2nd Eris I have had and if I cant upgrade soon then Im down-grading back to my LG.

HTC Droid Eris :: Will Not Manually Lock?
Feb 7, 2010So I am a total newbie not only to the boards but also to the Eris. So I would like to thank all of you in advance for not flaming me if this is a super simple fix. I have had my eris for about 3 weeks now. Everything works perfectly but over the last few days I can no longer hit the red end call button in order to manually lock my phone. When I press it, my phone does NOTHING. It will however still lock after it is idle for 1 one and it will also open back up when I hit the red button (so I know its not a problem with the physical button). I have restarted it, removed the battery, and deleted apps that were downloaded around the same time this started. I have also checked every setting I can possible think of but can't figure this out.

Apr 22, 2010Anyone else have this issue? My Eris' lock screen...well, locks up. So meta, right?
It does this maybe once a day and the only way to unlock the lock screen is... you can't. I have to pull the battery out and put it back in, then wait the entire three minutes it takes to restart.
EDIT: Sometimes it doesn't lock, but I can't pull down the unlock all the way. It sits there near the bottom of the screen and I can kind of move it around, but I can't pull it all the way down.
This is unbearably frustrating because I use the cardio program to track all my fitness. If it locks up in the middle of a workout, I can't save or see my progress. Obviously, I can't make a guess as to the distance I've traveled because I'm training for a marathon and I need exact numbers.
This is not to mention god knows what kind of screw-ups might result from so many restarts and forced shut down by pulling out the battery.

Nov 14, 2009Is there a way to let the screen time-out and go black, but NOT re lock. Its a pain to have the phone sitting down for a little bit and come back to it always being locked. If i shut the screen off and put it in my pocket, i want it to lock, but auto time-outs should let it come right back up
