HTC Droid Eris :: 2.1 Keyboards
May 17, 2010Is there any swype-like keyboards that are free? I read that the shape writer is great but it's not in the market, and I downloaded slide-it but that's only a demo.

View 12 RepliesI have Swype installed on my Eris, which I love for texting, but I would rather use the stock HTC keyboard when using the browser. Is there any way to set it so that the browser automatically defaults to the HTC keyboard, and text messages default to Swype? I looked around in all the settings and didn't find anything.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am using a mixture of thick buttons, vlingo, and touch input. All suck but touch input has the least lag. So frustrated that the swype version I loved so much has closed. I am having withdrawals from swype and this is my therapy.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently tried pairing the Freedom Pro bluetooth keyboard with an Eris, it's what brought me to these forums; subsequent searches didn't show conclusive answers so I thought I would share some trial and error:
-They don't pair. (Edit, 5/13/10: They might pair, scroll to bottom for updated info)
As of the date of this posting, the Eris (Both Android 1.5 and the leaked 2.1, v3) will not connect to the device using: The manufacturer's Android driver, the Keypro bluetooth driver, or the BlueInput Android driver.I've read where other Android phones have had some success with the keyboard through whatever available drivers, the Eris does not share this success. It executes to the manufacturer's directions until the "connect" step is available; a connection never occurs although the device is recognized.I could be wrong. There could be a missed and critical step to the process, but then, it wasn't listed in any available instructions. My impression, confirmed by a very few scattered comments elsewhere on the internet: It doesn't work.
1. Can anyone suggest a keyboard proven to pair with the Eris? Are there any usable arrangements for full keyboards/external keyboards known to work with this phone?
2. Has anyone else attempted to use this keyboard with an Eris or other device? Confirm my disappointment or blatant omissions?
I've come to the conclusion that I really don't like the default keyboard included with the kaosfroyo rom. As cool as it looks, its just bad at correcting mistakes. The htc keyboard was great once you calibrated it, and seemed to remember certain words that you use often to suggest them over other choices. Is it possible to install the HTC keyboard on this rom? Are they any other keyboards worth trying?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to know if anyone has tried the new 2.2 sense roms? And if so, what is the best so far? The main reason for this post though, is that I want to know if there is a rom that has the keyboard of CELB and KAOS and NONSENSIKAL, as well as the dialer? Or is that something that I can go download and use it on whatever rom that I choose?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find more information on the available soft keyboards for the Droid. The standard one that comes with the phone is simply awful, I only used the pull out keyboard. A few weeks ago I discovered the HTC IME keyboard and fell in love with it. Unfortunately with the new update it appears that that keyboard no longer works (force closes). Was hoping to pull together a list of available keyboards and what all of you think of them. Currently I am trying SwiftKey which is alright but not perfect. I miss HTC's prediction capabilities. But for now anything is better than the basic one.

View 28 Replies View RelatedI tried better keyboard but it isn't multi touch i was wondering if there is a 3rd party keyboard similar to the stock keyboard that supports multi touch. Coming from iphone it would greatly help my on screen keyboard usage, as the hardware keyboard is awful IMHO.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor all you guys out there who like taking themes to the max, I was tipped to this website by Android Forums - View Profile: incrediblenotinstock

You will want to jump over to Xda here : [url] nd pick up the high res v27 for froyo if your on froyo the other if you are not and pick up that zip. You will need the clicker hi apk from that zip if you want to adjust the settings for the keyboard.
I didn't create this website or any of the themes there All credit goes to those that did. I just wanted to share with the community. Its very easy and a straight forward process and it creates a QR code (which I never got to work) and a download link to dl the apk and side load it like you would any other app. If you already have the htc.ime keyboard installed, you will want to uninstall it first. It does hold a lot of memory (around 11mb in running processes for me) but it doesn't lag. It also isn't multi touch, but I have found typing very fluid for me.
So I love typing on this huge screen, but here is my question: Is there a way to use different keyboards based on orientation? I like SWYPE in portrait, but multi-touch in landscape.
Also, with the after market keyboards available on the market (ie better keyboard), who has tried them, who likes them, and most importantly why (layout, skins, auto correct, etc)?
I installed the Swype keyboard however there are times I want to use the default keyboard. Is there any way to switch between keyboards quickly without having to go to the settings?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIs this possible?? i really enjoy using swype for text messages, but hate trying to use it in the browser. i have multiple keyboards installed, but can't seem to find a way to use different ones for different things.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAny body else with BB7.5 not able to install the updates to Better Keyboard and 'Talk to Me' keyboard?I bought both of them before I rooted don't use either for swype and the 2.1 keyboard.Ever since I installed BB7.5, I've noticed I cannot install the update. It downloads, tries to install and then gives me an error message saying that Installation failed. When I click on the notification it tells me "Insufficient storage available" This seems to only happen with these two keyboards and other apps install fine. The directory in question is data/apps and I have 136 MB free in ROM.Any ideas anyone? Am I the only one?

This one is kinda big but it's fabric and rolls up so fairly small for storage. I'm not sure how compatible it is with Android or if special drivers would be needed.

I have tried to swapped virtual keyboards on my new HTC Evo- so far no luck. Here is what i have done- i installed a virtual keyboard like better keyboard or ultra keyboard-head over to settings-Language & Keyboard- and it gives me an option to click on whatever keyboard I want. Which I do, but it will not boot that keyboard- still goes to default. I have also restarted the phone afterward. No luck. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm using the Fresh ROM and like everything, but miss the keyboard from CM6. What I really liked was an extra line on top the keyboard with punctuation marks. Anyway I can set that up on the fresh rom? Or any other keyboard hacks you guys really like?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI put Swype on my EVO and I absolutely love it! The thing is while I love Swype for texting, Facebook, and email... I really would prefer to use the stock keyboard for browser entry. The reason being the stock keyboard has a couple things I miss with Swype. Namely the cursor arrows (necessary with the EVO w/o a trackball) and voice search. So is there a way to set the default keyboard for Web, be stock while Swype would be default for everything else. Please tell me this is something I can accomplish....Yes, I know I can long pause to switch keyboards on the fly, I was trying to set default keyboards for diff applications.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was actually wondering if the Dev version of the G1 would ever be available with different keyboard layouts...
I'm getting old and my brain isn't flexible enough to switch between keyboard layouts anymore... errr... ok, let's say that the low-to-zero availability of the G1 elsewhere on the planet would make a localized version more than appealing... not only for AZERTY-addicted people like me, but more for the day to day usage beyond the dev tool it is.
I know the G1 is coming out in a few days here (at a big price tag), meaning the keypads and hardware exist, but hyper locked, (sim and bootloader), as a futur dev, and continuous geek, I'd love getting an officially "FRogalized" Dev G1 :-)
Would choosing the kb layout ever be possible in the Android Market checkout?
I continue to search for the optimum virtual keyboard (I have a Droid).
I've used:
Default Keyboard - Not bad but far too basic lacking even some of the simplest features.
Better Keyboard - A good effort but I hate it's secondary key feature. Instead of a brief hold it's a brief hold AND a select.
HTC Touch Keyboard - Very good keyboard but not for the Droid. Low resolution, doesn't size right and lacks any AI to deal with situations like making "dont" show up as "don't".
Swype/Shapewriter - Both were interesting for about a week and then the novelty wore off.
Is there an App that switches keyboards depending on the program in use? I know i can just long press and change it, but i was wondering if there was something out there, that could do this automatically. For some reason with swype when i send emails they either wont send or take hours to send. But swype works fine for text and other functions.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm just curious about this. Ive been around the Incredible forums a lot and hear sometimes about the newer VZN keyboard smartphone coming out in the future. I was pretty stoked about this new big HTC phone but realized it had a keyboard and I immediately got turned off. I dunno about you guys but I NEVER got into the physical keyboards and really prefer the touch version 10 fold.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI saw a thread about this the other day, and cant find it for the life of me. basically, it lets you use swype or something in portrait, and switches to a multitouch keyboard in landscape. any idea what it was called?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWas wondering if it were possible to have it set so that Swype would be the default keyboard for portrait & whenever you switched to landscape, the default Android keyboard would pop up as the default?
I did read this post here & was wondering if the info still stands. Figured I'd start a thread here since my question's not Incredible-specific.
Anyone know where the keys will be larger than the desire? I have fat fingers and struggle with the desire at times.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I do this? I thought it would be simple enough, download the keyboard then go in to keyboard and select it, jobs a goodin, but I select the keyboard and still have the HTC one which I can't type on, What am I doing wrong?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIts awful. I can't get settled in. I keep changing my keyboard from stock, to swype, to swiftkey and now back to droidx latest version. Hate to say it but as of know I'm digging droid x, until I go back to stock in a few more days. Its just amazing that I can't make up my keyboard mind. Swype was the bomb, until I make just one mistake.
