Android :: Get Different Keyboards For Text Input Programmatically?
Nov 5, 2010What should I do to get different input keyboards for text input in my Android. For example when I want to input text in Korean, I want a Korean KB. And if I want to do the same in Chinese, I want to get a Chinese keyboard. How do I do it programmatically?

May 17, 2010I am using a mixture of thick buttons, vlingo, and touch input. All suck but touch input has the least lag. So frustrated that the swype version I loved so much has closed. I am having withdrawals from swype and this is my therapy.

May 9, 2010I have bought my Desire in UK where I live, but because im from Poland I use polish as well. It didnt take me long to find out the More Locate app which is great.. I can use predictive text in polish but there is a problem... when i want to use english and change it in preferences I cant chenge it back to polish because there is no such an option. The only way is to unistall more locate and reinstall it which is a pain... is there any way to fix it, so I can change the language in preferences? I have tried to install HTC_IME... its in the phone's settings but its not available during writing.

Jul 17, 2010I just purchased this awesome phone a few days ago, and while searching the forums on how to disable the word prediction, alot of people suggest to go to the Touch Input settings in the phone, but whenever I go to Settings -> Language & Keyboard, the only choice I have is to Select Locale, which in turn gives me a list of the locale, so I choose the Locale then it just returns me to the Language & Keyboard settings screen which only has the Select locale option. So I can't find the Touch input settings to try and disable the word prediction.

Thought I would let people know that swift key kb now supports the speech to text function as well, slideit does too. Which kb do you all prefer? Are there any others out there that are worth a try? Oct 13, 2010Cannot clear text typed on the Contacts (People) screen 'All' tab.I went to the contacts (People) screen, to the All tab.Without selecting any contact, I held down the Menu button. This brought up the keyboard. I thought this could be another way to search the contacts so I started typing.The Text appeared in a grey box over the keyboard. When I pressed the enter key on the keyboard nothing happened. The backspace key also does *not* erase any of the letters I've entered.When I pressed the keyboard away key, the keyboard disappears but the text in the grey box remains floating over my contacts list. I can tap on contacts underneath it but not interact with the box itself.If I hold down the menu key again, I get the keyboard back and can add more letters to the box but not remove any!If I go to one of the other tabs (Groups, Online directories, Call History) the box is hidden but it returns when I go back to the All tab.

Oct 15, 2010I just downloaded from the android marketplace the SlideIt Keyboard Demo. It installed without a glitch. In the settings menu "Language and Keyboard" the slideit keyboard is checked jet when ever the keyboard comes up it is always the default one.

I could create a custom IME, but (as far as I know) that would have to be set by the user as the system-wide input method. I have tried to swapped virtual keyboards on my new HTC Evo- so far no luck. Here is what i have done- i installed a virtual keyboard like better keyboard or ultra keyboard-head over to settings-Language & Keyboard- and it gives me an option to click on whatever keyboard I want. Which I do, but it will not boot that keyboard- still goes to default. I have also restarted the phone afterward. No luck. Am I doing something wrong?

Jun 5, 2010I put Swype on my EVO and I absolutely love it! The thing is while I love Swype for texting, Facebook, and email... I really would prefer to use the stock keyboard for browser entry. The reason being the stock keyboard has a couple things I miss with Swype. Namely the cursor arrows (necessary with the EVO w/o a trackball) and voice search. So is there a way to set the default keyboard for Web, be stock while Swype would be default for everything else. Please tell me this is something I can accomplish....Yes, I know I can long pause to switch keyboards on the fly, I was trying to set default keyboards for diff applications.

Aug 6, 2010I am trying to find more information on the available soft keyboards for the Droid. The standard one that comes with the phone is simply awful, I only used the pull out keyboard. A few weeks ago I discovered the HTC IME keyboard and fell in love with it. Unfortunately with the new update it appears that that keyboard no longer works (force closes). Was hoping to pull together a list of available keyboards and what all of you think of them. Currently I am trying SwiftKey which is alright but not perfect. I miss HTC's prediction capabilities. But for now anything is better than the basic one.

Mar 9, 2009I was actually wondering if the Dev version of the G1 would ever be available with different keyboard layouts...
I'm getting old and my brain isn't flexible enough to switch between keyboard layouts anymore... errr... ok, let's say that the low-to-zero availability of the G1 elsewhere on the planet would make a localized version more than appealing... not only for AZERTY-addicted people like me, but more for the day to day usage beyond the dev tool it is.
I know the G1 is coming out in a few days here (at a big price tag), meaning the keypads and hardware exist, but hyper locked, (sim and bootloader), as a futur dev, and continuous geek, I'd love getting an officially "FRogalized" Dev G1 :-)

Android :: Better Virtual Keyboards
Jan 24, 2010I continue to search for the optimum virtual keyboard (I have a Droid).
I've used:
Default Keyboard - Not bad but far too basic lacking even some of the simplest features.
Better Keyboard - A good effort but I hate it's secondary key feature. Instead of a brief hold it's a brief hold AND a select.
HTC Touch Keyboard - Very good keyboard but not for the Droid. Low resolution, doesn't size right and lacks any AI to deal with situations like making "dont" show up as "don't".
Swype/Shapewriter - Both were interesting for about a week and then the novelty wore off.
Android :: An App That Switches Keyboards
Nov 23, 2010Is there an App that switches keyboards depending on the program in use? I know i can just long press and change it, but i was wondering if there was something out there, that could do this automatically. For some reason with swype when i send emails they either wont send or take hours to send. But swype works fine for text and other functions.

I was pretty stoked about this new big HTC phone but realized it had a keyboard and I immediately got turned off. I dunno about you guys but I NEVER got into the physical keyboards and really prefer the touch version 10 fold.

Aug 24, 2010I've come to the conclusion that I really don't like the default keyboard included with the kaosfroyo rom. As cool as it looks, its just bad at correcting mistakes. The htc keyboard was great once you calibrated it, and seemed to remember certain words that you use often to suggest them over other choices. Is it possible to install the HTC keyboard on this rom? Are they any other keyboards worth trying?

Hate to say it but as of know I'm digging droid x, until I go back to stock in a few more days. Its just amazing that I can't make up my keyboard mind. Swype was the bomb, until I make just one mistake.

Jul 4, 2009Have any of you managed to get any other keyboards to work with your rogers magic? I've been trying a couple(bigkeys, handcent keyboard) because I heard they may be less laggy. However, I just get the same keyboard as before. I go to settings > locale & text and then select the bigkeys or whatever but it doesn't change anything. Do I need to disable the standard keyboard somehow? I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
