If there is anyway of stopping the screen from rotating both ways? I only want it to rotate one way, like it used to on 2.1
Today randomly my phone has stopped rotating when in any application, from the browser to messages to mail. I don't know what could have caused this, as I have been using it normal ever since I got it and not messed with anything. Running stock froyo, does anyone know of this and if there is a way to fix? I already tried disabling and enabling autorotate from the settings off and on a couple of times and nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to restore the dialog etc after rotating the screen? For example, pop up an alertDialog to tell user some information. then the user rotate the screen to another orientation. How to restore the alertDialog? Can any one guide me to do it?
In restoreManagedDialogs, it has something to do with mManagedDialogs. As you can see, for advanced feature, you must do the saving and restoring job by yourself. It may be a night mare when you have tons customized dialogs. I have not tried the complex dialog (has input EdiText, listView, say). In this way, I'd like to warn users: Never rotate the screen when inputing your info in the dialog... OR, lock the rotation dynamically when showing the dialog.
Maybe I'm a bit OCD but when I choose a nice wallpaper with a design in the middle, I hate how it flips when the screen does, and when it rotates back its off center.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an application I am currently working on for a client which is suffering from a particularly hard to debug problem. Every so often, the device screen will go blank, not just while running my application, but entirely. If I press the home button, for instance, it's still blank. This happens fairly rarely ( I myself have only seen it once or twice in a couple of months, and unfortunately couldn't gather log information immediately when it happened. What log info I was able to gather seemed to show that the phone continued to run properly - I was still seeing events in the log file - the screen was just blank ). So far, this has only been observed while running on Motorola Milestones ( this may or may not be coincidence - it's hard to tell given the infrequency of occurance ). Has anyone else observed anything similar? Any suggestions as to possible causes/ways of debugging?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a new desire user and would like to know if there is a way (apps/setttings etc) to stop the phone from going to sleep and screen locking when it is on charge? I use it for listening to music in the car in a charging dock and it's a pain to have to unlock the screen and enter my password if I want to skip tracks. I have to have the password active because of the corporate email policy. Anyway of setting it so it doesn't turn off when on charge?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've thought there might be a shell script I could run, maybe get an app that can run shell scripts from an icon on the home screen--but I don't know what that script would need to be, since it couldn't be about killing a process because that process ID is probably going to be different every time, and I don't know if it would require root. Rooting my phone is not an option.
I'm going to assume though that there's probably no answer to this and that I'll just have to keep going in by hand to force stop the app via prefs/apps/name-of-app/force stop. I just wish these app makers would have an exit option. Twitter and Vine and Growlr are examples of these programs with this kind of behavior. Facebook as well, but that'll just reload itself when you force quit it because it's a special "system app". I mean, I'm not expecting them to exit when I just go to the home screen, that would be silly, but I'd like SOME sort of option to close them besides going through the hassle of force stopping them via the OS preferences.
I want there to be NO chance whatsoever that these programs are going to access data in some way once I'm done using them. I have no problem with whatever the programs want to do when I WANT them running, but when I'm done using them, I want to be able to quit them, and it has nothing to do with wanting to have more free memory.
I just signed up for these forums because soon I will be an HTC Desire owner in Canada. Having never owned a smartphone before I do have a few questions. The plan I intend on signing up for is the Telus Student 40 and that will come with only 100mb of data. Now I don't see myself being too data using heavy so I feel like I will be able to live with it. However I do have some questions regarding my data consumption.
1. Is it possible to completely stop all data usage by somehow disabling the data connection if I find myself reaching my limit?
2. What are ways to track my data usage to make sure I don't use too much data?
3. What are good ways to conserve data usage? I'm getting the feeling that there are some applications that will constantly be sending data back and forth updating themselves, is it possible to have these applications but stop them from constantly updating and only have them update when I want to access the application?.........
Droid 1 with Launcher Pro. Installed Beautiful Widgets and then Multicon. If I tap on Muliticon area there is a yellow resize box that can only be removed by rotating the screen. Same applies to BW Weather. How do I get rid of the "yellow box" resize screen without rotating Droid?

Very different launcher in a lot of ways.
Has left to right scrolling in the app drawer instead of vertical.
Has 2 main dock spaces for icons but if you swipe up on the app drawer instead of pressing it you will see what he calls the dock bar which has space for 6 more dock spots.
Tons of customization options.
There are several different ways of definition the ID. What is the difference? android:id="@id/android:list" android:id="@+id/android:list" android:id="@+id/confirm"

Looking into the future of it, there are features I plan to implement within the coming months. But looking at me adding features, I realize I would be altering the original source, so if someone finds a bug, I need to either wait, or completely undo everything to fix it. What are some options for managing my source code and stuff?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for ways to back up the database of my app on an Android phone. I know that SQLite databases are just files, so I'd expect to be able to just copy the file to SD-card if one is available. However, I'm unsure as to how I'd prepare my database/activity for backup/restore.
When starting, my main activity reads the entries from one table in the database and displays them in a ListView. As shown in the API's "Notes" sample, I have a cursor that is automatically notified about changes to that table (ListView is automatically updated when I add/remove/update records in the table). When I copy the database file to SD-card, I should not have a problem. But what if the user wants to restore a database file? I can't just copy the file back to the data folder, can I (EDIT: ... while a view displays data from the database and thus maybe holds an open connection)?
What would be "best practice" when implementing backup/restore? One approach I've considered is:Open a special "restore" activity that holds no open database connections
Call finish() for the main activity to remove it and close database connections Copy back the database file Open a new "instance" of the main activity all finish() for the "restore" activity,....Would that be the way to go? Thanks for any advice!
I've been working at adding music, and installed iSync to pull playlists and tracks from iTunes (other computer software is not an option as the wife LOVES iTunes and her iPod.)Than being said, the iSync program is easy-to-use and nice, but I'm finding that the EVO's music app is taking its own sweet time to recognize the tracks from the SD card.I can wait, but my fear is that it will need to do this each time I launch the app? Is this the case, or is it a one-time thing?Any suggestions on other ways to manage music and playlists on the EVO?

I've gad the same issue on both the stock messaging app and chomp. Pictures that I attach to send to someone come up sideways, but only ones shot vertically, I.e. in portrait mode. What's up with this? Can this be adjusted?

Can anyone with some experience talk about how they did this successfully with their own app?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can i rotate a view and keep it like that. I have tried the Animation method discuss in the following discussion thread.
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa...
this works fine for the animation, but it does not handle the key press events itself.my requirement is simple, I need to show a text on a button upside down. Somewhat as if the parent view is drawn landscape and button is portrait.
If I rotate a photo and transfer it to computer or email or anything the rotation does not stick, only in the image gallery.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a way to rotate a View, or (more conveniently) an entire layout, upside down and have it stay that way. I found the rotation and animation classes in the SDK, and these come close to what I want, but at the end of the animation I want my Layout to stay rotated; repeating the animation or just flipping back right- side-up doesn't help me with my app unfortunately. The only thing I can think of so far would be to find the source code for the rotate class, and override it such that the "...and then flip it back around to be right-side-up" code never happens. I'm not sure exactly where I'd find the original rotate code for reference if I were to do something that extensive however.I've found references online to the full android source - is that basically what I'd be looking at downloading to be able to attempt something like this? Am I missing a simple option on the rotation that would let it just stay put after I rotate it? Any help would be very much appreciated!
