HTC Desire :: Stopping Auto - Lock When Charging
Jun 11, 2010
I'm a new desire user and would like to know if there is a way (apps/setttings etc) to stop the phone from going to sleep and screen locking when it is on charge? I use it for listening to music in the car in a charging dock and it's a pain to have to unlock the screen and enter my password if I want to skip tracks. I have to have the password active because of the corporate email policy. Anyway of setting it so it doesn't turn off when on charge?

I was having issues with my TF700 so I did a factory reset, and reinstalled CM 10.1. Unfortunately now the play store was updated to 4.0.26. I think this version is horrible so I uninstalled the updates to it resetting it back to 3.10.14. Cool, except that it keeps silently upgrading back to 4.0.26 after a while. Is there any way to stop it from doing this?

I'm writing a game using the drawing method from Chris Pruett's opengl spritemethodtest demo. The Activity running my opengl view works fine on initial load, and about half the time after turning off the phone and turning it back on. However, the other half, it locks up. I'll get a "lock_layer timed out (is the CPU pegged?)" warning that keeps repeating. I tried running the debugger to find the exact line that the error is occurring on, but the strange thing is that this error won't occur if I'm running the debugger on my G1. It only happens under normal operating conditions. Any help would be appreciated, as this bug really has me stumped.
Here are my onPause and onResume activity methods:
CODE:.............
Here's a stack trace, running from the initial onCreate call to the lockup (I added some extra Log warnings to illustrate when different lifecycle methods are being called):
CODE:..................

I've been looking around for an app that automatically turns on the WiFi when the charger is connected to the phone, and then turns it off again when the charger is disconnected, but I can't seem to find anything... Does anyone know of an app capable of this?

Is there a way auto lock duration can be extended to more than 10 minutes ? the maximum showing on settings is 10 minutes. Our Administrator policy mandates the use of this security setting as I use the phone for corporate email & accesses. The 10 minutes is not enough as it is really annoying. GT-I9300

The stock Android lock screen will display your battery status while your phone is charging; does anyone know how to have it display your current battery status while it is not charging?
This doesn't seems like a super difficult task to accomplish, I'm just unsure where I need to start to get things going. It would be so awesome if someone would actually help me.

Is there a way to let the screen time-out and go black, but NOT re lock. Its a pain to have the phone sitting down for a little bit and come back to it always being locked. If i shut the screen off and put it in my pocket, i want it to lock, but auto time-outs should let it come right back up

I usually tap the off button to turn off the screen when I put my phone inside my front pants pocket. I even have the security feature on so when I turn on the phone, I first have to draw a pattern to unlock it. However, I've noticed that sometimes after I've done all this, my X10 seems to be doing stuff on it's own, ie) downloading pic from the net, sending random text messages, randomly calling contacts. I know because sometimes after I "unlock" my phone, I see that the phone is in the middle of doing something. I thought by turning on the security feature, it's supposed to prevent accidental taps on the phone and doing random things while inside the pocket.

New to this forum and back to SE with my Xperia after a few years with LG. Love my fone so far, but had not too much time playing with it so far, but one thing that bugs me is that my screen auto lock straight after a call even if I am not back to my home screen, how can I stop it to do this. Reason is that when I unlock it again, I am at the previous screen, I have then to cancel screens to go back to my home page to start again, this is a pain.

Is there a way to have a phone lock on the Desire, in the way it is used on "normal" phones? What I mean is that I need a phone lock for security reasons - however it is a pain to use it every time I turn the screen on. Is there a way to have it work only when you turn the phone on? Right now if yu don't have a phone/screen lock security set if someone steals your phone they take out the sim card and use the phone normally ... if you do have it, then you must use the password every time you want to use the phone (I hate it). I know the best thing is to have a secured access but I was just wandering if it was possible to do seomething different?

I am pretty close now to finally making my first android phone purchase. I have been between the Desire, Galaxy S and the Desire HD for the last month but have been really turned off by the small battery on the DHD and have just found I can get almost all the feature on the Desire with 2.2. One answer I couldnt find is does the froyo update for 2.2 have auto caching of the maps? I use my map a lot as I travel all over the city and this really intrigued me about the DHD. If not not a big deal but would make me order the phone right now

I have had my Desire for a few days now, and yesterday we decided to go out for a drive, so I thought I would use the Sat Nav to get us about (NDrive). The battery in the phone was about half charged. Was listening to music whilst using the sat nav, and when we arrived at our destination, the battery was still reading half charge - even though it had been charging for over an hour in the car.

I noticed last night that my Desire HD wasn't charing, I had it plug'ed into the socket, then tried charging it via my laptop and then X box 360, the orange light stayed on until I went to sleep, but when I woke up, the battery was still orange, around 25% full. I don't know if its relevant, but I had upgraded the firmware around the day before, anything to do with it? Phoned up e2 Save who said I need to take it to the Car phone warehouse tomorrow, but wondering if there is something I can do at home?

If I use my HTC Desire for Google Navigation in the car, with the phone plugged into a USB power adaptor for the cigarette lighter socket with the cable that was supplied with the phone, the battery still runs down.A dialogue pops up when the battery is getting low saying words to the effect that the phone is using more power than is coming in via the charging cable.I notice that the phone distinguishes between being charged on AC and being charged by USB. In Settings->About Phone->Battery it says, "Charging (USB)" or "Charging (AC)". I believe that charging from a PC USB socket is limited to <500ma by the USB spec. I guess the phone knows that it can draw more current when connected to the AC charger. The supplied AC charger must have some way to tell the phone that it is connected. Perhaps it communicates with the phone via the USB data lines, or something simpler like the data lines being shorted together? The USB power adaptor I have in my car can source 1A. If I can work out how to convince the phone to switch to "Charging (AC)" mode then perhaps it can do Google Navigation and charge the battery at the same time?

I've been adding, and uninstalling, I've been noticing some installed apps that I don't seem to be able to add to my screens, or use.
I was wondering what these were.
They are: -
Rosie Utility
Teeter
and
Street View (Okay I KNOW what this one is, but how do I add it to Google Earth/Maps)
Also I've noticed that on the pattern lock screen. There is a message that says, "This phone belongs to". How do I personalise this with my name?

I have had my HTC Desire, so I have had it for too long, yesterday it was a hot day and I put my phone in charge whilst it was on with mobile internet on, and was on my bed just under the cover and I completely forgot about it, when i come back after around 7-8 hours the phone is extremely hot and I can smell the phone. I looked at the phone and the battery had only 2 percent charge left which is odd considering it had been in charge for around 7 hours and was very slow like sliding from home screen to home screen was painfully slow, once I left the phone to cool and gave it a charge to 100% I turned the phone back on to find the phone was and still is very slow, also by hot I mean a good 60 degrees hot. Do you think I have done any permanent damage to the phone and that it will never be fast again? Also have I damaged the battery? Can any of the phones get internals damaged by this? Anyone had any overheating issues or problems resulting from this?

I have a car kit for my desire that has an FM transmitter so that I can listen to my music from my desire through my standard car radio and was just wondering if there is an easy way to make the screen not autolock while the phone is charging as it's not exactly safe having to unlock the phone to change the song. I know I could switch the autolock off in the settings but was just wondering if there was a way it would change the setting itself when its plugged into the charger.

just been away for the weekend and used the Desire as a sat nav. Now my issue was charging, i had a default Micro USB cable with a CHEAP Cigarette Lighter to USB Adapter. Now when Trying to charge my Desire it git VERY hot and didn't seem to charge, the battery was still going down when using sat nav, and increasingly getting hot. has anyone got any ideas, advice or recommendations. Also the SMALLER the better when it comes to the Lighter adapter, as its right next to my hand break etc and gets in the way if tall. Its either the way above or to get the HARD wired BRODIT cradle.

I'm using my new HTC Desire and I have encountered a rather frustrating issue. I have tried searching everywhere but can't find anything that can help me yet. I have found that whenever the phone is charging, the phone is completely mute and will not ring. Likewise, any sms's will go unnoticed as no ring tones/ alerts sound. The phone still operates like normal while charging and will retrieve calls, it's just the phone stays completely silent
