HTC Desire :: Possible To USB Mount Android Desire On G5 Power PC
Aug 17, 2010Years ago, probably way before your time, there was a state of the art computer called a G5. It was so powerful there would never again be the need to upgrade. The OS and software were cutting edge and all who saw were gob smacked. So, the G5 having been discontinued 4 years and 10 days ago, and Tiger under 3 years ago, things are different.I can't connect my phone to my computer through usb or Bluetooth.Is it faulty hardware on my end or are they known to be incompatible?

Jun 2, 2010Turning the phone on and off.Rebooting my PC.Done both of these multiple times. Have changed settings in "Connect to PC" and re-set them to see if that would make a difference and have clicked and unclicked "Ask me."option on connecting.What is going on? The phone just starts charging, but I cannot get it to show up as a drive.It worked perfectly until I installed Handcent SMS (which I've since uninstalled).And have naturally rebooted the phone several times since.yet it still doesn't work.I'm really at my wits end. I'm using the USB cable that came with the HTC car charger but it surely can't be that but then what is causing it to not work? The only non-standard things I have on my phone are 3G Watchdog and the Astro file manager. Both of which didn't have any impact WRT to mounting the phone.But now, having just bought some music from Amazon on my phone, I can't get my music or photos off the phone onto my PC.

Apr 21, 2010Tried connecting my phone via USB for the first time last night. Upon connection Windows popped up an "installing driver" bubble, as it often does with new USB pendrives, and said this was successful. The phone popped up asking how I wanted to connect so I chose the option to mount as a drive. At this point Windows did nothing for a while then, eventually, the removable disk appeared but I couldn't access it. Whenever I tried to open it, it'd try to scan it for 5-10 seconds then give up and ask me to format it.

My desire was feeling little slow today so i rebooted and now it says "The SD card has an unexpected problem" and wont mount it. it says SD card in read only mode. Aug 2, 2010A reliable GPS is extremely important to me when choosing a smartphone. I want to install android based navigation software, rather than have separate units for driving and hiking. The garminfone seems overpriced given its hardware and ancient android 1.6.
Samsung's Galaxy S impressed me with its 9mm thickness, large Super AMOLED and blazing fast hummingbird processor. After learning the GPS was unreliable, I decided to further explore my #2 choice, the HTC Desire.
Please comment on how your GPS navigation has performed, specifically using igo, copilot or similar navigation software. Do you feel it is as accurate as a dedicated GPS unit?

The htc panel is more eye appealing. The google one is more functional. Turning your phone into a more dedicated sat nav. Pressing the home button takes you to the nav panel rather than your 7 home screens

Sep 18, 2010I have an HTC Desire, just upgraded to 2.2 (seems a bit slower) and I would like to have the navigation instructions routed through bluetooth to come through the car stereo speakers. Now I know this can be done with A2DP but I was wondering if it can be made to work over HFP?
Over A2DP it works but it means you cannot listen to any of the in-car sources like CD or radio as you have to have it permanently switched to bluetooth audio to hear the instructions. If it was over HFP, the car stereo would mute whatever source you were listening to so it could play the navigation instruction. Is there a way to make this work, or an app to download?

Jul 14, 2010Is there any way of changing the voice on these, the synthesised voice is AWFUL. Apart from not being able to pronounce English words correctly (E.g. Kew <queue> said as koo - I can't imagine what is must be like if I had to drive down Gloucester or Leicester) it's soooooo grating and harsh on my lugs.I've tried both English and American English settings but both are as bad as each other.Is there a download for new voices or one in the pipeline?I'm shocked this passed Google's quality control!

May 24, 2010I am REALLY impressed with the google maps navigation on my Desire, I have a TomTom and pay for maps quarterly and it's up to date but still does not know about the 4 new roads where i live and one is a few miles long. However Google Navigation knew about the new roads (1 extra before i knew, let alone tomtom)
How can they offer such great navigation for free when i have just paid ?74 for my tom tom map update and it's still out of date.! if htc/google can fix the issue of calls via blutooth whilst using HTC desire for navigation i tell you TOMTOM are history and thats hard to say after all these years!

Jun 22, 2010Need some advice, google maps and navigation never quite takes me to the right place, close too it but never quite there. Now near location is okay for something free, but its usually that last wee bit that you need more than anything, instead of you coming to an estate and it tells you its on the left hand side, which is the whole estate. I read in a thread here someplace about another free sat-nav that Im sure was for another phone type, but then someone in one of the other phone forums gave everyone a link into that forum to show how it works. Anyone know what I am talking about ? (most folks never do and they know me lol) or anyone know how to make the google navigation more reliable?

(e.g. the "A" four thousand and fifty five, rather than the "A" four O five five), I know it used to do this when the app came out, but I thought they had fixed it. May 22, 2010I live in Sweden and the application is on my phone, but does not work. That is odd because it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to do, especially if Google Maps already gives turn-by-turn directions. I'm guessing it might have to do with the language or pronunciation of the streets. I don't mind using it in English, though.
