HTC Desire :: Won't Connect To WIFI Connection
Aug 16, 2010why my phone says my wifi at home is out of range? It is a private network and I for some reason the HTC Desire won't find the network.

why my phone says my wifi at home is out of range? It is a private network and I for some reason the HTC Desire won't find the network.
I have a factory unlocked HTC Desire with the official 2.2 froyo firmware installed. When I turn on the wifi using the inbuilt HTC wifi widget, it takes about 10-15 seconds before the phone connects to my wifi router and the wifi icon is shown in the notification bar. I am using a Dlink dir-655 router. The settings that I have on the router are as follows:-
wireless mode: 802.11g only
encryption: wpa2 personal AES
mac filtering on (phone's mac address has been added to the list)
SSID is hidden
Other devices such as my laptop and nintendo wii connect to the wifi router within seconds.
iv just got a replacement hero and i cant get it to connet to my bt home hub, my last one did no problems but when i try with my new one it just comes back as unsuccessful, it does seem to connect to bt openzone tho if that helps.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an application in which I need to connect to an access point with a specific name. Therefor I start a scan (WifiManager.startScan()) and listen to BroadCastEvents of type SCAN_RESULTS_AVAILABLE_ACTION and NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED_ACTION. When the scan results are available, I check if my AP is found and if so I connect to it.
When I'm connected to the AP, I receive a NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED_ACTION and there I open a SocketConnection to my serverSocket. The problem I'm having is that on the moment that I'm connected to the AP, the DHCP request is not yet finished. This causes the opening of the socketConnection to throw a "SocketException: Network unreachable". A few moments later I see in the logcat logging: WifiStateTracker - DhcpHandler: DHCP request succeeded. If I try to connect after this message, all goes fine. is there an event that I can listen to that informs me that the DHCP request is done? Now I try to create a connection and while an error occurs I retry. This is however very dangerous for hanging (if e.g the dhcp fails, the loop will never stop...)
My wifi will turn on, but will scan for or connect to networks. Anyone had this issue and know how to resolve it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to automate my Android phone connecting to an SSH server when the phone connects to an unsecured wifi network. My understanding is that this is adequate to keep my traffic from being sniffed by DroidSheep (Android), FireSheep (Windows), or other packet sniffers.
I'm using this guide to connect my Android phone to the SSH server: link HERE
Is the Tasker app the best way to do this?
- if yes: how do I trigger the launch of the SSHTunnel when the trigger event (connection to unsecured wifi network) occurs?
- if no: what is a better way?
Note: I did a search for SSH (link HERE) and did not see anything covering this.
I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now
With the HTC Desire, is there any way of setting up a bluetooth connection to connect automatically, eg hands free kit in a car or do you have to manually connect each time?
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecieved the Desire HD yesterday but it won't connect to my Wifi (although it says it is connected) as when I try to access the market, web browser, gmail it won't connect unless I switch on my 3G connection. Frustrating as I wanted to download maps and really can't do this on my mobile content allowance.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently updated to Froyo/2.2 on my HTC Desire (on Vodafone contract). According to Vodafone this is now the standard HTC firmware with none of their nonsense installed. Now I cannot connect to wifi either at home or work. It can see the wireless networks OK, but gets stuck in a loop trying to connect - it seems to be trying to obtains an IP address, gives up and starts again endlessly. Having searched around the web this seems to be a common 2.2 issue. I've tried many times with forgetting the credentials, etc and have done the full factory reset. Not sure what to do next.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had been tearing my hair out because my new HTC Desire couldn't see my home WiFi and yet occasionally it would "see" a weak signal from a neighbor's house. My Access point was running WEP so I changed it to WPA-SPK - still no good. So I also set up a second standalone WAP running WEP. Still couldn't see either WAP.
Upgraded to latest ROM firmware. No difference. Long story short, it wasn't the type of security, it was because I was using Channel 13, It suddenly occurred to me that not all countries (I'm in Australia) have Channel 13 available so the phone might not have it either. Changed WAP from 13 to Channel 6 (although any other but 13 would no doubt work) and everything worked.
wifi is connected , but internet only loads first page then freezes with blank page(wifi working perfect with laptop)

Some of these apps are incredibly slow or others just give up. I've never been able to upload a picture via Twitter using any platform. Really annoying. Seems my Gmail isn't even notifying my anymore.. Have I done something? Is this linked to Orange's notoriously poor set up?
Will rooting my phone help? I'm already running out of space on my phone after downloading what I consider a fairly small number of apps. Why don't they save to, and run off, the SD card?
After I reboot my Desire,it stay in "obtaining IP address from xxxxx" for a very long time, and will never finish this work. Why? Here is the Wifi software version and screen shot when it working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOkay what started out as a slight annoyance is quickly turning into a right pain in the ass. For some reason, over the last week or so I'm finding that I have to restart my WiFi connection to connect to the net. The web pages just wont load, but as soon as I restart it, they load fine. This goes the same for the Market. As far as I know NOTHING has changed on my phone as far as WiFi goes, and my Rom has worked just fine till this issue started.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've uncovered what could be a serious problem with the Desire. It's only affected me in one way so far, but who knows what other problems there are that I haven't found. I've noticed on several occasions that when listening to music via Bluetooth, my headphones disconnect for no apparent reason. However I've found a pattern now: if WiFi is turned on and I come within range of a /remembered/ hotspot, the WiFi connects and BOOM, disconnected from audio. I can reconnect straight away. There is another poster here (sorry, can't remember your name or the thread you posted in) describing another problem with WiFi and Bluetooth working - or conflicting! - together so I don't think I'm the only person suffering. Who else can reproduce it and how could I submit a bug report to HTC?
View 13 Replies View Relatedi just upgraded my Desire this morning, everything works except wifi, the update went smooth without any problem, once the update was done it started up fine, only thing i noticed was the Wifi didnt work, In Setting - Wireless network, it say ?unable to start Wi-Fi? under Wi-Fi.
Firmware version; 2.1-update1
Software number; 1.21.405.2
One more thing i have noticed in setting-about phone-hardware information-under wi-fi mac address is unavailable. Whereas before upgrading it has a wifi mac address which i had noted down. Is it a driver issue? If yes how can i fix it.
I've just installed 2.2 on my unlocked unbranded desire from CPW on Orange. All seems well except I can't connect to my wireless network any more. I've tried rebooting and tried setting up a new connection.I just keep getting "Obtain IP adress from" but it never connects.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI go out into cities alot, and I usualy grab a coffee in either a Costa, or a Nero. These both have BTFON WiFi hotspots. At the moment I can connect to these as I have BT Openworld at home. However, my BT contract is being cancelled tomorrow, they're bloody expensive, and as a result, my access to these hotspots will stop unless I subscribe to thier BTFON service.
If I stop my Desire connecting to these by switching off WIFI, will the phone then automatically switch to 3G for internet access?
I'm new to all this WiFi stuff. I have no problems connecting my Desire to my WiFi at home, which is great. But at work (or at least in the vicinity of my office) there is an open WiFi point. I have now tried on several occasions to connect to it, but it always fails. It gets as far as trying to get the IP address then nothing happens until the connection fails. Then it starts trying to connect again, but it gets stuck every time on getting the IP address.
This would not concern me if it weren't for the fact that other work colleagues (one of whom also has a Desire) have managed to connect without a problem. I've moved over to where those people work, in case it was a pure location thing, but still no success. Obviously I'd like not to have to use my data allowance while at work if at all possible.
Just got 2.2 installed on my vodafone desire, and decided to test out the wifi hotspot since my girlfriend doesnt have internet in her flat.
We got the desire setup ok, and we got her laptop connected, but the only site that would load was facebook, and even then it had a few errors and took a few refreshes before it loaded correctly
Is there any settings that would allow it to connect to other sites? I tried google, bbc, hotmail, tvshack and facebook.
I have just updated my HTC Desire phone to Froyo 2.2 but am having probs with wifi hotspot. I am trying to connect to it with my ipod touch and it detects the wifi signal and lets me connect but when I try going online with the ipod touch I have no luck has anyone managed this successfully?

I'm on contract with 3 (despite bad repuation in the past they appear to have caught up with other providers), but am still waiting to see if it is a problem on their side.
