I've had my desire a few weeks now and have played with all the settings to try and get this to work, however I cannot get HTTPS sites to load, they just constantly time out. I've tried several different browsers however they don't load in any of them...xscope, dolphin, opera or standard.

I'm trying to load https requests with a Webkit object but It shows only a blank page, with http requests I don't have problems, It shows the page correctly. I have look the source code of the browser, in http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/packages/apps/Browser.git;a... but I don't understand how the browser process the https requests. I think that the class BrowserActivity process the http and https requests but I don't see how to do it. Somebody could explain how the browser process the https request? It uses a Webview object to show the response of the https requests?

Just got 2.2 installed on my vodafone desire, and decided to test out the wifi hotspot since my girlfriend doesnt have internet in her flat.
We got the desire setup ok, and we got her laptop connected, but the only site that would load was facebook, and even then it had a few errors and took a few refreshes before it loaded correctly
Is there any settings that would allow it to connect to other sites? I tried google, bbc, hotmail, tvshack and facebook.
When starting to enter a URL into the browser I keep getting sites popping up which I've never been to. Is there some way to stop this, or to clear the list?
Eg enter 'a' and I get
amazon.com
ask.com
apple.com
adobe.com
about.com etc. Sometimes foreign language sites show up, in non-western characters.
The phone is new. I've tried clearing the history and the search history, disabling search suggestions, even setting airplane mode in case the phone was fetching this live.
Are there any sites/apps for watching the world cup on mobile?

Is there a known solution? I cleared the cache and data and force-stopped the ap, but it still happens. The app has a list view to display all contacts and use the ContactPhotoLoader in the stock contact app to load the contact photo async. When running, some contact photo can be displayed correctly and some cannot.
When clicking on the list items, the app will start the view contact activity of the stock contacts app:

For the contacts, which photo cannot be displayed properly, is able to display correctly in the stock view contact activity. I have compared the source code of the stock contacts app and my app. They are doing the same thing basically. I have also checked for the permissions used by my app are covered the set of permissions used by the stock contacts app.
Do I have to buy a certain kind of micro SD card for the Eris? I bought an extra 2gb Sandisk micro SD card and I tried to use it to update my friends phone to 2.1 v3 and it didn't ever load the image when in boot. I finally had to take my card out of my phone and use it. A pain, but it worked. I'm just wondering if I got the wrong card?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have no clue what's going on here but TB won't restore my contacts.I had 2.1 and installed the older 2.2 leak from over a month ago and was able to restore contacts then via TB (although I don't exactly remember how).I wanted the new 2.2 and downgraded the radio and returned to stock, did unrevoked forever and put 2.2 on my phone.I restored all my apps but the contacts are gone.They aren't stored on VZW or Google either.Am I missing something?I went through the system stuff in TB and clicked on everything that was green and restore app and data several times and then I restored just data a few times too and still nothing.I know my contacts are saved in here somewhere.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed PDAnet, it's been working fine until today. I logged on to my facebook & was playing games & messing around. Later I got online again, went to facebook, the page loaded fine. I typed my login info in, hit enter,it took a minute to load, then said page cannot be displayed,then a box popped up in the corner at the bottom telling me Secured pages are blocked, register for full version. So now I cant login to ANYTHING (except this website for some reason). Any idea as to why it was working fine before but not now?

I have compiled required kernel modules (cfg80211 and ath6kl_sdio), but I have encountered some problems during this proccess. I don't understand why on my android device (in /system/lib/modules/ath6kl) there are two modules: ath6kl_sdio.ko and cfg80211.ko (first one depends on the second one). But when I look at my sources, I see the following module dependencies for ath6kl: ath6kl_sdio -> ath6kl_core -> cfg80211. So there are 3 modules instead of 2. Anyway, after some modification (I merged ath6kl_core and ath6kl_sdio into one module) I managed to compile ath6kl.
I have replaced compiled modules in /system/lib/modules/ath6kl on my android device, then rebooted and I got the following error:

I am very desperate cause I want to modify this driver (to be able to calculate some network statistics) but I cannot load modules at all so I am stuck.
Has anyone been successful showing a notification, starting an activity, or loading the home screen *during* a call on the Droid? All three of these actions can be done with the emulator running 2.0, but will not run from the Droid. I don't receive any type of notification that these actions fail on the Droid. Although, every action works when a call is *not* active. Missed calls during a call *do* show up in the notification bar, so I am hoping there is a way.
I understand that the notification bar can not be accessed by users during calls, but it would be nice if a notification could at least be delivered. I also understand the security and usability concerns of displaying a window or action during phone calls. Although, there are a lot of users who would like actionable functionality based on calls.
I bought hts desire 2 days ago and very impressed with it. but started to get annoying with Google maps. Either I dont understand how it works or my desire not working properly. With no problem I can connect to GPS and can see its on but when i go to Maps application I cant see anything except flashing blue arrow. Maps dont load. My maps loaded when I connect to WiFi. Does it mean I always have to connect to GPS and internet to load maps? Feels strange that i cant see any maps with only GPS on.

This morning everything was a bit sluggish, so I restarted it, and now it's going to the HTC "quietly brilliant" screen, and then reboots, it's stuck in this cycle. It's plugged into a power socket, it's certainly not a power issue.
Any ideas of what I can do to get this to load back up? I guess if this is bricked, I'm completely screwed, as Orange won't touch it now it's been rooted?
I have deleted the maps data from the SD card. Where do I go to download the file again or any other map?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to load the ApkInstaller from Android Market but I can't find it on there? Anyone else had any luck in finding it and installing it? I'm trying to load it after I read on Electripig that the Google Navigation and Directions app can be hacked and works fine (a free navigation service if it does). On one site it even shows a photo of the ApkInstaller on the Market and someone with a Desire even commented they've followed Electripig instructions for the App and it works perfectly but for the 'ell of me can I find it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedHowever my phone will connect to my wifi at home no problems, it automatically switches when it's in range, but after about 20-30 minutes it stops working (pages won't load etc or get an error message saying I need to be connected) and when I go into wifi in settings it says 'authenticating' instead of connected. It doesn't change back if left you have to turn it off and back on and then it works fine for 20-30 minutes and back to the same problem again. I have never had a problem with the internet connection and there is no interuption to it or anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like advice from those with 2.2 on Orange. I've had my Desire for 2 months now and love it-apart from one thing-the damned Internet connection. Quite often, with a strong 3G+ (HSDPA) signal, my internet connection fails to load data. Then, a few minutes later, in the same location, it works perfectly. I know for a fact that this is not a network only problem. The reason I know this is because I previously used the exact same SIM in my iphone for 6 months in the very same locations and it always worked perfectly.
Therefore, my strong suspicion is that the problem is a result of the combination of the Orange branding on a Desire and the network itself. I'm sure I read of a couple of posters here who had the very same problems and when they moved to 2.2 the problem disappeared. Can anyone confirm? I've been waiting patiently for the Orange update to 2.2 but am getting fed up and I'm concerned that the Orange bloatware may still cause an issue after this. Hence, I'm considering a debrand and update myself.
the internet often fails to fully load the page I request, even when the display at the top is indicating 3g/3g+. The web address bar will half load and then stop and the only way to get the internet working again appears to be by turning the phone off and on. It does this 3 or 4 times a day. Also, whilst on the topic of internet problems, Google will often look to have loaded, but the location bit under the search box will never appear, nor will my default email address at the bottom of the Google homepage. When this happens whilst I can type in the search box, clicking the search button does nothing and can only be remedied, again, by turning off and on. This also happens a couple of times per day at least.
Secondly, since weekend, my phone has been 'crashing' (for want of a better word) mid-way through text messaging (very annoying if it's a long message as it doesn't save any progress). The screen will go black, signal will drop to nothing with a cross through it and then I'll be returned to the screen I was in previously. The same happens during calls - the phone will hang up, call will end, and the screen will go black with a line through the middle of it. I've had the phone since May and, as it's Orange branded, is still on 2.1. To be honest, overall I'm becoming fed up with it - seems to have more problems than it does positives at the moment, but I'm stuck with it for a while yet it would seem.
When i go to manage applications, to uninstall for example, the list takes AGES to load like 15 seconds its like the phone has crashed because it just hangs then it finally all appears. Sometimes it is instant, other times it takes ages is this normal?

Ideally, when one switches on the tablet this app should be loaded perhaps during startup and the user need not step out of this app. The app logic itself is rather easy but I am wondering if it is at all possible to load a single app during load and not allowing the user to step out of it.
