HTC Desire :: Spam Text Messages Received Due To Lax In Security?

I have had the same mobile number for about 10 years and only ever had one problem with spam text messages, that was 7 years ago. However, since moving onto Android I have received a message every few weeks. Usually they are about wiping debts or accident law suits and come from standard mobile numbers, not premium ones. Is this just a coincidence or have I been lax in some form of personal security with apps or 3G Internet?

I have had a HTC Wildfire on 3 for about 2 weeks and have just found out that a number of people have sent me texts which I haven't received. However, some texts have got through, and I seem to be getting replies to my texts okay.

I am a former iPhone user and when I had it my texts could be as long as they wanted too. When my girlfriend sends a long text to my EVO I get multiple texts and it is annoying. Is there a way to change this? Tried a search and no luck.

It seems I cannot receive texts today.I rarely use this feature but was informed by a friend that he had texted me and wondered why I did not respond. The last time I used this feature was about a month ago.Logging into my Sprint account, it appears Sprint has updated their website to include something called ZipText.This is new to me but may not actually be new. It appears to be set up to forward any texts it receives by default and the messages I expected to see did not appear there. In fact no texts appeared there.So is anyone experiencing problems receiving texts? I have tried powering down and up my phone.I have successfully sent 2 texts to different people but I do not receive their replies or new messages.I cannot see a setting that would cause this.I have gone into the "Messaging" application to send texts.

Last night my phone suddenly stopped picking up some of my text messages. I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and I have never had this problem before - I've had the phone for about 6 months now. It comes up with a notification that I have a message, and as normal when I drag down the notification bar it will let me preview the first line of the text. However when I go to my inbox it isn't there; likewise my sent messages haven't saved in the conversation.
The thing is, this is only an issue with two of my contacts; I have been sending and receiving texts from other people it's just these two and they both have i phones - could this be something to do with it?
I am not using any 3rd party messaging apps either like handcent. I just use the messaging service that the phone came with.
I said I've never had this issue before and out of the blue it's not showing my texts! It's driving me nuts.

I would like to receive a signal more than once when I receive a text message. Is there any way I can do that. I'm not someone who checks their phone many times during the day, so I really need more than once reminder that I have a message.

So my girlfriend is having an issue with her phone. I don't see it being an issue with mine but it might be something else. She is receiving non-alpha numeric characters in her text messages. So far shes gotten it from me and one of her other friends not knowing what to say she called it "caligraphy". Anyways, I am on Metro and her friend is on Verizon. I'd figure its a CDMA issue but she is on a Samsung Moment on Sprint which is also CDMA so idunno.
To me they send fine, but to her some of the texts she receives come in all garbled. Not sure whats going on, anyone got any ideas? Her phone is unrooted, stock, and like a week and a half ago had a factory reset done. Its 2.1 android. In this screenshot I asked her to forward me the "jibberish." She had tried to do it several times earlier but i never got the messages, this time i got it so heres a screenie for you all.

I have my phone up in the settings for both email and for text messages to give me a vibrate alert on any text or emails. All I get is the audible ring and no vibration. It is the same on incoming calls. The vibrate works if I turn the ringer off and go to vibrate mode, but it won't work with the ringer.

I currently have my gmail set to play a tone called "green tunnel" as its notification and my sms to play "life mushroom." Under the main settings tab, the default notification tone is "silent." For some reason when I get a text message, I'm hearing "green tunnel" and "life mushroom" at the same time.

Has anyone had this happen to them: not always, but very often, if I quickly reply to a text message, my reply jumps up a place in the thread and appears before the last message, i.e. like this:
(instead of)
Sender: Where are you?
Me: I'm at work.
(it appears as)
Me: I'm at work.
Sender: Where are you?
I've noticed it almost exclusively happens if I reply within the same minute on the clock. If I receive a text at 10:50 and reply at 10:51, it doesn't happen. But if I promptly replied while time was still 10:50 almost certainly my message will jump up the thread and not be the last.

A few days ago my fiancee received a text from an email address while I was with her. It had some gibberish and a phone number. She deleted it right after she read it. She has a BlackBerry Tour on Verizon. Today, I got basically the same thing - a message from "CJOHNS235@sprintpcs.com" and the body is "EPPlCARD LLBH alert 521148. call 828-268-**** ". I googled the phone number and apparently it's some guy named Steve in North Carolina. If it was an email I wouldn't be worried, but it came to my phone number. I never give out my cell number for anything.

A while ago I found an app that would text phone numbers of your choice with "X" amount of texts. You would just fill in the text box, specify how many texts, and the frequency of the texts....... and voila! Instant gratification of seeing my friends phone blow up because he couldn't delete them as quickly as they were coming in.
I would prefer to find the original free version, but paid version is fine too. As long as you can personalize the text field, and set the number of texts, I'd be happy. The one I had you could set an almost unlimited number of texts, so I'd usually do them 75 texts at a time. As long as it'll let you do more than 50, it would be perfect.

I have synced my contacts with facebook but when I receive text messages I get their phone number after the persons name and it's annoying and looks crap. Anyone know how to solve this. I know if the contact has multiple numbers it shows but it's showing on contacts with only one number too.

for the last 4 or 5 days frequently, when i'm composing a text the screen with flip back to the all messages page and completley lose the text i'm in the middle of. most frustrating and quite unpredictable. had the phone about 2 months, and its been fine up until now. have done the usual off/ on. cant think that i've changed any settings but i've had a few new apps from time to time.

This forum has saved me from going insane many times now.. but I have searched for an answer to this question but cannot find anything. I had the usual hastle of my facebook contacts getting in the way so I removed the facebook sync in account settings (it was a pain when trying to send a text message to multiple people) but for some reason I can still see my sim card contacts when sending a text message and I cannot find any options in settings to only view phone contacts. When I look at the contacts settings I only have phone contact selected. I dont really want to delete the contacts from the sim as there are some numbers that I want to keep on there incase I ever need them again, so if anyone knows another work around that would be great.

I have created a group to send out joke texts etc however when i sent the text to the group i have created some go to their mobile number (What i want) and others go to their e-mail address... I have checked all the settings and cannot find a way to select the mobile number. Also some people that get it sent via text also have an e-mail address saved so it's not defaulting to e-mail for all the contact in the group with an e-mail address...

I received a couple of text messages from Vodafone today, and the Messages app showed the sender as one of my personal contacts! It happened to be the last contact that I edited in the People app, and seems like a bug. Has anyone else seen this? this is on an unlocked Desire bought from mobiles.co.uk.

i'm brand new to this forum (and to android in general)! i just got an HTC Desire through Telus and i absolutely adore it.however i have a very annoying problem.whenever i receive a long text message from a friend (over 130ish characters), the message is broken apart into separate text messages and the messages are not in the order in which they were sent. since i get A LOT of long messages from friends, this is a huge pain in the butt.i don't mind the long message being broken down into smaller messages, my problem is that the small messages arrive in RANDOM order.

I have linked my facebook account to my desire and I have a couple of issues that I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with:
1. I received a text message from my credit card company, who are not in my contacts list. The phone has listed the sender as a random facebook contact who is not in my 'people' list. How has this happened and how can I fix it?
2. I have used some of my friends facebook profile photos in my people list. However, when they update their profile picture, the photo does not change on my phone. Can I do anything about this?

I have a HTC Desire, running Froyo on the o2 network. My text messages automatically deleted during the middle of the night, this has happened once before... but paid no attention to it, thinking it a one off. Has this happen to anyone else?

i had my desire i was always faced with the letters in lower case and if i wanted capitals then i would press the arrow pointing up but ive now pressed something and when i start a text all the letters on show are all in capitalsa dn to get lower case i have to press the arrow pointing up.how do i get it back to starting a text off in lower case letters

I own a htc desire which was updated to 2.2 a cpl months back.I sent a text a few mins ago. and then when i came back to my phone all my text history has disappeared. I have not selected the option to delete all old messages, So im a bit confused and annoyed about this.Especially since ive lost a lot of important messages.Has anyone had the same issue? Is there any solutions?
