View 2 RepliesIs there a way to have a phone lock on the Desire, in the way it is used on "normal" phones? What I mean is that I need a phone lock for security reasons - however it is a pain to use it every time I turn the screen on. Is there a way to have it work only when you turn the phone on? Right now if yu don't have a phone/screen lock security set if someone steals your phone they take out the sim card and use the phone normally ... if you do have it, then you must use the password every time you want to use the phone (I hate it). I know the best thing is to have a secured access but I was just wandering if it was possible to do seomething different?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm on a family plan with my wife and 13yr old son. We purchased a Galaxy S4 for our son as a Birthday present in October. However, as of recent his grades have taken a dive. We notice he eats, sleeps and breathes on the phone. He primarily uses it for surfing the net, instagram or youtube. We were thinking of grounding him and removing his phone but we need him to have his phone as a point of contact. However, is there anyway to stop his data usage. I realize there is a setting on the phone to disable data usage but it is fairly easy to re-enable it.
Is there anyway to lock or password protect the phones settings or data usage?
I tried googling but the results kept yielding information relative to the "lock screen" which isnt what im looking for.
I am wondering, is there no way to lock your desire when you want? for example before i put the phone in my pocket? i have set the phone so it locks automatically after 30 seconds to conserve battery, but i would like the option of doing myself if i need to without waiting for the auto function.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a Desire two days ago, and realized yesterday that, when i call someone, the phone goes directly in lock mode and can not be unlocked anymore The only way to unlock it without pulling the battery, is by hanging up with the handsfree kit. OR if the person i call hangs up. Which never happens when you call a voice mail for example.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd share my experience of this in case anybody else found themselves in a similar situation whilst doing Over The Air ROM updates. So I got home from the pub last night and decided it was the right time to update my phone to Android 2.2 (hey, I'd had five pints, anything and everything sounded like a "good idea"!).For background you should know that I spent last weekend making a gold card and flashing my Orange branded Desire to the v1.15xxx generic ROM to get rid of all the Orange crap.I did not root or unlock.I checked for updates, and instead of being offered 2.2 Froyo, I was offered 1.21xxx. Curses! I know from reading on here that v1.21 breaks the wifi. However, reading through the official Froyo thread in this forum I found a post by somebody in a similar situation suggesting that by upgrading to 1.21 and then checking for updates he was able to install 2.2.That was good enough for me (yes, five pints) so, with my gold card inserted, I accepted the update to 1.21 and left it to do its thing. Eventually it finished, but when it booted for the last time it said the SIM was network locked and I had to contact my operator.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThe phone is the htc desire, it's unlocked but not unbranded from t-mobile and currently with o2. I got the OTA for 2.2 and didn't update it because the last time i updated it caused my wifi to fork up meaning my first two weeks of owning a desire meant waiting for it to come back from HTC repair.
Adding salt to the wound, it came back locked meaning I had to fork out another tenner to unlock again. So question! does anyone have experience of updating to 2.2 on an unlocked but branded phone (on Tmobile). Will it lock the phone again?
Does anyone know of an app to change vital phone settings based on your location? So, if i'm at home, my WiFi will turn on, same for my friends. Or i get to work and it turns to silent?

This will kill the warranty, so... how can I backup the Orange configuration in case I need to do a restore to make a claim under warranty?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThree are agreeing to exchange my HTC Hero for an HTC Desire, because of the numerous problems with the Hero.
I've spent a bit of time setting up my Hero and installing apps - is there a way to easily back up my Hero's settings and apps and transfer them to the Desire?
Any app available which can lock "settings" , so that nobody can delete anything from app manager !!
Even an app which can lock "app manager" can solve the same purpose !!
Is there a way to lock settings? Like, use a password to access android settings, I tried to use some "App Lock" apps, but if there's a widget that change the settings, it doesn't ask for a password.
View 2 Replies View Related' I'm having a few issues with my Galaxy S3, I was getting an error 923 when trying to download or update apps from Google Play, I searched and found a solution is to clear the cache from Google Play and reboot the phone.
When I go to the "app Info" in settings the data and cache sections both say "computing".
Then 1 or 2 things happen, 1: it will drop back to the home screen or 2: the phone will reboot.
I am unbale to update or download apps any longer on Google Play.
Other issue is I have a SIM Lock pin set, now when the phone reboots it is not showing the unlock sim screen and boots straight to the home screen and not connecting to my mobile providers network.
I have to go into settings remove the SIM Lock Pin and then the phone will connect to the network and then set the pin again.
I am unable to find in Settings the option for choosing the lock screen widgets.
I enter this option only from the Add button from the lock screen. I have a Nexus 4 with Android 4.2.2.
Where can I find this option?
Is there a way or an app that will let me lock certain parts of Settings? Like if I want to allow our users to change Sound, Display, etc, but lock them out of Applications and Accounts&Sync?
I have found a few apps that will let us password protect things on the phone, but with them if I choose Settings, then they can't change anything and I want them to have a bit of flexibility, but I have to keep them out of Applications because then they could just kill the password app that locks them out of certain apps.
I'm looking for a way to lock or password protect the wallpaper settings. There are apps out there that lock apps, and lock the "settings" app, but long pressing the homescreen allows you to alter wallpapers directly and circumvents any such protection.
I know you can password protect the whole phone, but that's besides the point. I'm looking for a way to protect wallpaper settings specifically.
I am looking for an application that will allow me to lock out certain applications and features. For example, its common that someone wants to tinker with my phone because they have never seen it. I don't want the messing around in my messaging center, gmail, etc. But the general phone lock is not enough. I want to specify certain apps and functions that will require password or gesture. I found "ES Security manager - application protector" in the market. It worked okay for a day, now its buggy. When I go to a locked app and put in my password. Now it goes to the protector settings instead of the application. Also, it can easily be killed from a task manager app. I need a good solid app that will do this for me.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been adding, and uninstalling, I've been noticing some installed apps that I don't seem to be able to add to my screens, or use.
I was wondering what these were.
They are: -
Rosie Utility
Teeter
and
Street View (Okay I KNOW what this one is, but how do I add it to Google Earth/Maps)
Also I've noticed that on the pattern lock screen. There is a message that says, "This phone belongs to". How do I personalise this with my name?
I've been having reception issues with Orange and they are sending me a new handset to see if that is the problem. If I drag all the data from the old SD card to my computer and then back over to the new SD card, will that keep all the setting form the HTC backup settings? Or do I have to point it in the right direction.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got my new DROIDX recently and I have a couple of questions (I have been a windows mobile girl since the very first smart phone).
1. Is there a way to "wake up" the phone by tapping the screen instead of hitting the button on the top?
2. The "lock" seems to come on every time the screen goes black. So every time I go to use my phone I have to slide that little unlock thing. Its quite annoying.
3. Is there a quick way to lock the screen? I want to be able to lock it easily when I go to put it in my bag or something......but if its just laying around the house I dont want it to lock automatically.
Had my DHD for a week now, but haven't been able to receive or send MMS messages. That seems to include messages containing settings from T-mobile too. Tried my SIM in my old C905 and could send MMS message fine. The support lady from T-mobile said that I've got to take it to the T-mobile shop as it could be a hardware problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had my desire for a couple of weeks now and loving it, just one point thats frustrating the hell out of me is why when sending a text message using the "phone" style keypad you can't disable the XT9 setting, I've turned it off in settings etc., and it will still default back to XT9 when you navigate away to add a smiley etc. Maybe I am missing something obvious! but I detest predictive texting - prefer to type my own letters. Any app that will sort this?
