I remember on my Nokia N95 I got from somewhere a sort of Europe map pack for Google Maps, which meant that I could use it offline, or even if I had Internet access the places would load instantly from the phone, rather than having to stream the data as I looked about and such. Is there any such equivalent for the Desire?

Just a little present for any Mac & Desire users out there. I just finished making a couple of Desktop icons and thought I'd share them with you all! Just download the .zip file, unpack it and apply whichever Icon you like best. If you don't know how to do that, I've included an instruction manual in .PDF format as well.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine had his gmail account compromised by those friendly Nigerians who claimed he'd been mugged needed money etc. Fortunately no one fell for it.HOWEVER the friendly Nigerians, having used his gmail to get into his facebook changed his password to both gmail and facebook, then deleted ALL his contacts, and all his email sent and received etc. One assumes that this is to ensure he couldn't send out an 'urk! ignore ignore' email.my life is excessively dependent on my emails and online contacts... he was extremely peeved - I'd have been devastated. And it got me thinking.If it happened to me, with my phone synced - would all my phone contacts suddenly disappear - or once I'd synced once with gmail, should I stop it syncing unless I do it manually?Is there a way to back up gmail emails offline?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI've done plenty of research but alas I still can't deteremine whether Google Listener has the capability to download podcasts for you to listen to them at a later time, specifically (in my case) when without an internet connection.It works fine if you have a connection - you can listen to any episode of a subscribed podcast, and all is well - I can't falt it on this side of things.But I want to be able to subscribe and have Listener download episodes in the background when wi-fi is available so that I can then listen to them at my leisure - most often when wi-fi is not avilable (i.e. at work )The 'Download Settings' imply this is the case. I've selected the 'Download new audio' and 'Only on Wi-fi', which (to me) imply Listener should download and queue all new episodes whenever a wi-fi connection is available (but never via mobile data connection). But nothing downloads at all. All I seem to be able to do is to listen to an episode so long as I have wi-fi connection. I can;t listen to anything offline.

Supposedly the new version of GDE allows icon packs, but I haven't seen any that are specifically for it and I tried one or two others and they didn't show up in the Icon section of the appearance menu. I have downloaded BetterCut but don't really care to learn how to make my own shortcuts for every app that I want to change the looks of. Do I just wait till someone makes specific packs for GDE or?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI made some Icons just for fun so I thought I'd share them. Plenty of different Androids in different colors and then you'll find plenty of random things. Also theres one called invisible, I like to keep my main screen as clean and simple as possible. So I used the invisible .png image to create an icon for gmail and texting, the 2 things I use the most. On my main screen I only have a search bar and the two invisible icons, everything else is on other pages. But anyways the invisible one is in there if anyone wants to use it. Use better cut or something like that to use these.
I'm using Nextheme.

I added some PAC-Man style icons, several different characters,and 2 androids and other randoms. I found these and made icons with them, I did not create them.
Not really feeling the Sense Icons for contacts, Internet, etc. Is there a way of getting the stock icons?

I've searched document and mailing list archive, and have not found the exact solution. 1. SharedPreferences could not solve : It could only do with simple key/value pairs, my configuration data is more complex . 2. file in /assets , /res/raw could not solve: It seems that the file in these position would be read only
I've found a way, it almost solved my problem, but still not. Our code could deal with the file in /data/data/package-name/files on the target file system, this is good to me, but how could I put my file in this directory after my app has been installed? My app need to read these configurations when it starts.
My question is how could I pack my data file into my apk package, and then my app could read/write this file when it is run.
