HTC Desire :: Image Quality With 2.2?
Sep 10, 2010Does 2.2 improve the quality of still pictures taken? I know that it lets you record 720p video now...so I'm interested to know if 2.2 also improves images?

View 2 Replies View RelatedLast year, I implemented a web application specifically designed to display large jpgs (approx 950px x 1000+px) in a magazine style format on WebKit for the iPhone. It works great there, as well as any other WebKit-enabled device - until Android.
On other devices, tapping zooms the image, then there is a momentary pause while the image is rendered and sharpened - so text retains clarity. The pause/render/sharpen never takes place on the Motorola phone or the AVD I'm running though Eclipse. Even taking the web app out the equation, going directly to the image in Android's flavor of WebKit shows the same issue.
I've tried outputting jpgs with a much higher density: 165dpi, up to 600dpi - there is some clarity increase, but not enough.
Are large jpgs just a lost cause w/Android? Is the render/sharpen on zoom something that just hasn't made it's way into Android's version of WebKit?
I notice when ever I set a wallpaper the image quality is crap. all the wallpapers i try are at least 800x480 but most are normal computer wallpaper size so they should fit fine after being cropped.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI need to scale down images coming from a Network stream without losing quality. I am aware of this solution Android: Strange out of memory issue but it is too coarse - inSampleSize is an integer and does not allow finer control over the resulting dimensions. That is, I need to scale images to specific h/w dimensions (and keeping aspect ratio). I dont mind having a DIY bicubic/lancoz algorithm in my code but I cant find any examples that would work on Android as they all rely on Java2D (JavaSE). EDIT: Ive attached a quick source. The original is 720x402 HD screen capture. Please ignore the top 2 thumbnails. The top large image is resized automatically by android (as part of layout) to about 130x72. It is nice and crisp. The bottom image is resized with API and has severe artifacting. Code...

This is for anyone who links their facebook contacts with phone contacts.I set this up yesterday and it works great the problem i have is when i get an incoming call there picture pops up but the image quality is so horrible you can't even tell what it is. I am used to my Hero showing a really good version of there facebook pic. does anyone know how to fix this. i want to use the facebook pics for my contacts but they just look horrible.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I set a photo for my lock screen, my Eris sets it but the quality of the photo always looks horrible from the original. I have tried using super high-res as well as PNGs instead of JPGs but it looks like crap when I save it. Is there anyway to make it so it doesn't downgrade the quality of my photos when I set them for my lock screen?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to display an image from an url with an Webview at Android. With Android phones with Version 1.5 and 1.6 there is no problem. but the same pic and the same code on an AndroidPhone with Version 2.0 and the pic is totaly pixelated. Like Android is resizing the image first to a smaller one and then resizing it back to "normal" size. Unfortunately its important to display the pic without any quality loss. I tried to integrate it in the sourcefolder to show it as an normal image, but at Android 2.0 i get an exception because the image is to big. (At Android 1.6 there is no problem) Any ideas how i can display the image without quality loss with Android 2.0 ?

though putting the imageview holding the image in a LinearLayout scales the image to the width of the dialog, the problem is that i need to display the image in a dialog but the image is very high resolution and hence is far bigger than the width of the dialog...
I need to show the actual image with scrolling for both ways to see the whole image... But whenever i try putting the imageView in a scrollview the top of my imageview is blank... and again though image scrolls downwards the width is scaled to the width of the dialog...
I want to do an image gallery like in iphone. I want to show low quality (pre-resized) images and when the image is active I want to process the big image and show the result in the gallery. I have two questions. How to attach a listener on the animation stop in gallery? And how to access an image after this action?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't have HTC desire but i was wondering how good is the sound quality? Like compared with iPod touch or a proper music player.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to the HTC Desire on T-Mobile and am experiencing some problems with image quality be it through browsing the internet in gerenal or even when looking at my images through facebook etc.
All the images seem to be pixelated and are not as crisp when I compare it against say my i-touch. I realise it will be different on differnet phones but I know the images should not be looking like this.
I took it straight back to T-Mobile shop I got it from and they did acknowledge that the images were unclear and pixelated but they said it was not a known fault with HTC or with T-Mobile. They gave me a brand new replacement and its happening on this handset too. Its a bit disappointing as effects the overall browsing experience.
I called HTC and they said that should not be happening and they said they hadn't heard of that fault but would collect it to look at it.
For those who don't know yet. The desires back cover has a camera lens protector made by very cheap plastic, that scratches very easily. When this happens, the pictures will have a "glowing", blurry, un sharp look. What I did was removing the piece of transparent plastic "lens protector" on the back cover and then used a small piece of screen protector and sticked it on the lenses. Even without it the chances you actually scratch the lens is virtually none. So now I have a hole in my back cover, but I dramatically improved my picture and video quality.

View 7 Replies View RelatedHas anyone noticed how the video quality such as on you tube is really bad compared to the I-phone even though the Desire's supposed to have more higher resolution? My bro's got the I-phone and I tested the desire with his phone. Went into certain you tube videos, using same wi-fi connection in same room etc etc and also tried using 3G (both on t-mob) and still his video quality on I-phone was miles better and clearer!
View 34 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, sorry to the administrator for already posting this thread in the wrong section (Tips and tricks) Question: Have you ever tried to make a videorecording when you're at a concert? (I'm not speaking about a classical concert!) I did and the result was horrible for the sound part Is there a trick when I want a good quality audio?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a question to all the longer term users of the phone. I've had several phones before, all new and shiny in the beginning but before too long their facade starts to come off. Finishing, body, etc. How good is the desire in this respect?
- How many nicks have you got on yours? Does it get scratched easily? I mean the touchscreen as well as the body.
- Does the body colour come off easily?
- Are there any parts of the phone where dust accumulates?
- Does the battery cover show signs of becoming loose?
- Do the volume rocker keys become loose?
Can the phone take a couple of falls? I've been handling my Desire like my own baby but it's only a matter of time before it slips from my hands I feel. Also I simply love the look of the phone, and don't want to put on a silicone or a body shield but if it's really necessary I shall.
What is the quality of the DHD speaker, I've heard it's not very loud or clear? I'm upgrading from an iphone 2G which had a terrible speaker, so I assume it's better than that. Is it loud enough to listen to music without headphones?
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to make sure if this is a common issue or something wrong with my handset (so that I can try getting it replaced).
When I hear calls using phone's default speaker, the sound comes okay till one volume level. If I move up, the sound distorts.
If I use speaker-phone, things are worse. After a certain level, sound crackles a lot.
For music via phone's loud speaker, the sound doesn't crackle. But as identified by many, I can hear music with no bass & lots of treble.
Is this normal for Desire?
Comparing it with my wife's N95 (which has stereo speakers) was a nightmare for me.
Have you ever tryied to make a video when you're at a concert? (I'm not speaking about a classical concert!)
I did and the result was horrible for the sound part. Is there a trick when I want a good quality audio? just keeping the Phone in the air is not enough
I have two questions - they may have been answered already, but I'm still ever so confused. 1. I have managed to remove my facebook/twitter/google contacts from my People list, but they still show up when I go to the Phone thing on the home screen. I would like this to be the other way around - i.e. to have all my contacts on my People list thing, but just those on my phone sim come up when I go to the Phone button to make calls. Any suggestions very much appreciated. 2. The sound quality is hopelessly tinny when I make/receive calls. People can here me, but everything I hear is very distorted. Is this a problem for everyone, or do I have a faulty phone.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone else noticed a degradation in the camera quality? After I bought the HTC desire a month ago, I took a few photos in sunny midday daylight with default settings which looked beautiful, probably the best camera phone quality Ive ever seen. But over the course of a month I've noticed an overall desaturation and overly bright photos taken in the same lighting conditions as the originals. In fact, scrolling through the camera shots folder, you can see the quality diminishing as you scroll towards more recent pics.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been using this phone since June, and the camera quality always is something that I hope can be improved on HTC Desire. Previously, I shared a photo to my friend, and he told me that I use a 4MP camera. I was shocked, because it should be 5MP. He's using a photo viewing software that can display photo details. Anyway, I had a look in the camera's setting, resolution 5MP (2592 X 1552). I curiously multiply two numbers, 2592 X 1552 = 4022784 which is 4MP.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm quite pleased with the camera as long as you have good light - good amount of detail and sharpness for a camera phone. But I do find that the images are often too dark and lacking in saturation, while being too contrasty. Thankfully, there is plenty of info in the camera image files that can be pulled out. There are some sample comparisons on DPNow.com here if you are interested: HTC Desire smartphone camera still photo quality? - DPNow.com Discussion Forum.
