HTC Desire : Goldcard For Rooting Phone?
Sep 15, 2010Does anyone sale GoldCards that are needed for rooting the HTC Desire? As its recommended that the user, uses a Windows machine and I have no such rubbish on my laptop.

HTC Desire :: Keeping Goldcard In Phone
Sep 12, 2010I've got a Vodafone handset that I unlocked and debranded and it currently has the official Froyo 2.2 software on it.
When I updated to Froyo I decided to make my regular 8gb SD card into a Goldcard so that I can leave it in the phone, use it as normal and still receive the official OTA updates. But, I'm wondering what actually makes it a Goldcard - i.e. is there anything I've got to be careful not to delete? Or is it just a case of being sure not to reformat it?
All I did was to backup the files on it before I formatted it and turned it into a Goldcard and then copied those back over to it after having done the update. So, still a Goldcard then?

Sep 10, 2010I have seen several posts about once you have debranded a phone you need to put the goldcard back in to update using the OTA update otherwise you will lose access to your wifi. Are there any problems with using my large microsdcard as the goldcard and then permanently leaving it in the phone?

i followed the steps, but i can't tell if i managed to actually succeed. i tried rooting my desire, and it hasnt been successful so i presume i must have gone wrong with this part of creating a GoldCard. (since the guides on Modaco needs Hex Editor for Windows and I dont have Windows installed on my Mac's Bootcamp.)
HTC Desire : Best Rom Version To Goldcard To?
Jul 1, 2010I'm having severe problems with the Orange ROM on my phone, not to mention I hate how they have messed around with 2.1.
I have 1.15.61.10 BB 32.30.00.28u_4.05.00.11.
I'd like to know if anyone can tell me which is the best/most stable ROM to change to, and also and most importantly, if I change to another version, preferably unbranded HTC 2.1, what happens when Orange push OTA updates out?
Will my phone try and download the Orange updates? Or will it attach to some HTC server somewhere and download the generic version?
Id rather not have to manually update everytime a new ROM comes out, so it would be good if I didn't have to, but I would think each network would only provide their own version OTA. Is this right?

Jul 14, 2010My only SD card is the one in my phone (its a goldcard) I installed rom manager did a SD card partition, it deleted everything on my card. Did I just destroy my goldcard? Also, my phone loads up fine etc. but i am on the stock desire FW and I have no market or google apps anymore (after the partition).

Feb 6, 2010Recently got a HTC Hero on 3 that came with the latest 2.73 firmware (unfortunately) and the flashrec and instantroot.apk methods both failed. So now i'm looking at the Goldcard way. Unfortunately when it comes to the step where you goto Free G1 goldcard generation ! to put in your email and CID I just get a duff page which says About, Download, Support Forum. All of these links take you to the PSAS website and I cannot see anywhere where you can put these details in.

Jul 23, 2010I am toying with the idea of putting a Froyo Rom on my desire, but have several questions that aren't answered in other posts.
1. Will I need to unlock my phone before, during or after changing the Rom? I am not overly bothered by the orange stuff on my phone, but am worried about losing my WiFi connections!
2. Do I need a goldcard? Some instructions say yes, other no. None mention orange handsets specifically.
3. Which is the easiest & safest method to root my phone, if I want to put the Froyo Rom on it?
4. What if I want to change Roms - do I need to do the whole process again? I've seen something about a Rom manager, but where do you get it and how does it work?
5. Which Rom do I use? I've looked at some I'd the modacco forum ROMs, but most don't actually say what you do or don't get with them.
6. What's that difference between a2sd and a2sd+? Does it come as part of the ROM or so I news to get it separately?

Dec 13, 2009I'm trying to do a few things to my phone (create gold card, free it from ROM lock in, throw on a new recovery image, and flash to a new ROM) but I noticed most of the guides are for windows... Is there a way to do any or all of these things on a Mac? The guide I was looking at is here:

Jan 11, 2010I tried to make a goldcard for rooting my HTC Hero (Three UK with latest ROM) over the weekend, but had no luck - it seems the memory card I own (an 8gb Kingston card from ebay, so may be a fake) doesn't work.
Can anyone recommend a memory card brand & size that will *definitely* work for creating a goldcard?

i found this on a site [PC Application] GoldCardTool - Android @ MoDaCo ..... its not mine and i take no credit for it but thought i should share it with the people who do not no about it and for the less technical minded like me its easy to do and takes less than 2 mins
lol here is 1 real big tip this will make you laugh . dont forget to plug your phone into your pc . i was trying and trying for about 15mins before i stopped being thick that i tried to use this program with my phone on charge in the mains and not plugged in com and synced lmfao ... all this trying toput ROM on has fried my brain

HTC Desire :: SD Card After Rooting And Going To 2.2
Jul 25, 2010I have just used the instructions on this forum to first root my phone, and then install New 2.2 on to my desire. What a improvement in performance and Shockwave flash works. But I can't install on to my SD Card at all. If I download a app from the market (or my pc) which is set to install on extrenal storage (SD Card), it downloads and the installation fails. I also can't use APP 2 SD as when I try and copy to memory it fails. so if I then unmount my SD Card, and install the same app, it installs and works fine. So do I need to do something to my SD Card?

Nov 22, 2010i had 2.1 rooted and now since having gotten 2.2 i decided i would root that also. however, i seem to be having problems with it.im using unrevoked, and i even downloaded the newest version of it, but it keeps failing to push the image it worked fine with 2.1, had the whole thing done in 10 mins, but this just does not seem to work. im following the instructions to a T.

Oct 28, 2010I have a US Cellular Desire - I rooted it with Unrevoked 3 forever - only to free up some memory and take some apps off that were preloaded. I did not delete any stock files - or use a custom rom of any kind. My question is - when the 2.2 official OTA froyo update comes - will I be able to do it OTA since there is no custom rom? Or will I have to do it another way. If I have to do it another way -what is that process? I dont care if it stays rooted or not - I am new to all of this - and would actually prefer just to go with the 2.2 official froyo update and not be rooted in the future.

Jul 22, 2010Well I decided to have a play and rooted my phone using the unrevoked method. All quite painless.
I flashed a version of DeFrost (2.2) and had a play, but encountered a couple of problems.
So I flashed 2.3 when is became available.
Then I haf problems with battery drain. Since then there have been a number of new releases of DeFrost - pretty much every day.
So I decided to restore my Nandroid backup and stick with the stock ROM until things settle down a bit.
Having done this, I can no longer get into recovery. The phone hangs on the Pink Circle screen and I have to pull the battery.
So has restoring the Nandroid backup which was made using the ClockWorkMod Recovery destroyed the recovery flash, and is that what you would expect or has something bizarre happened to me.
Just curious as I assumed that once the Recovery was on there it would stay there.
It's no big deal as I'm sure it will be just as easy to go through the rooting process again.

Sep 20, 2010so just rooted using unrevoked3, i did so without a memory card in the phone (forgot i had earlier taken it out) and had a message on the phone about couldnt find sd storage. well anyway unrevoked3 said that rooting was done and i do have the user permissions app in my app drawer. just wondering could there be anything that is not on my phone now because i didnt have sd storage in?
