Like many of you I've just got my Desire today. I got it from Orange, and as a result it's bundled with loads of applications I don't want e.g. a few demo games, orange maps...etc. How do I remove these. If I go to applications I can see the app there, but if I tap it, there is no option to delete

I realise there are a few threads about this, but I thought I would make a new one for my easier guide, and hopefully people will find it more easily as they won't have to scroll through pages of other threads to find an answer. I am now successfully running most apps from my SD Card now. I just thought I would make an easier guide as the others are fairly complex for noobs like me............
Just followed instructions on how to move apps to sd card on an unrooted device....all worked well, moved what i wanted to, but would now like to put phone back to default settings to install apps to phone memory.
I tried to open run command on my pc with phone connected and typed pm setInstallLocation 0.....but all that comes up is command is not recognized.
Was looking for some guidance here. I need to replace the garbage keyboard bundled with 1.6 for something else. Which in your opinion is the best replacement and why? Maybe some comparisons would help also. Oh, by the way i'm running a mytouch 3g!

When my app loads for the first time, the xml data file is read and local database is created and populated. This xml file is a crucial part of my app and it holds at least 100k entries. I don't want this data to be compromised.
Is there a way to encrypt this data file so that the file is unreadable in case someone opens the .apk file and extracts the data file.
I want to have a separate project that runs my server communication code in a normal JVM for the purposes of integration testing. This code uses these libraries which are build into the Android Framework...

The guides have been helpful and clear on getting to this point, but now i am stuck of the multiple roms out there, very few of them actually list what's available. I wanted as few as possible of the stock apps (peep, amazon, footprints, all that garbage gone), overclock, 5-7 screens, and for it to do my taxes, change my timing belt, and book flights for me all at once, but can't seem to find out. Right now i've got home, senseui, and nexus launcher loaded up on here, using senseui cause that's what i am used to. Nexus launcher seems to be well a resource hog that this phone cant handle without overclocking.

I genuinely have no interest in certain locked apps - TrafficLive being the most notable. But going to Applications management I'm not given the option to delete, really frustrating. What I did was created a folder on my SD "deleted" and I was copying the applications I didnt not want from /system/app. So I moved amazonmp3.adk and cityid.apk to the deleted folder. When I look in the app folder they are gone but when I look under my apps from the home screen they are still there. So I reboot and when i go back into /system/app the apps are mysteriously back.

I am not totally ignorant, I read the special instructions to remove the widget as a device administrator and tried that first but it just lets me select Deactivate but does not actually deactive, it stays as an administrator no matter what I do, so then the app won't uninstall.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make my application (compiled against 2.1) compatible with the 1.5 platform. I've handled all of the res/ folder issues, and have been able to run the app on all platforms without problems. I can run it fine on all emulators, and all devices/OS systems running 1.6 or higher. But on the only 1.5 device I have (HTC Hero), I get intermittent problems.
The only 1.5 device I have is an HTC Hero phone I got free at the Sprint developer conference a few months ago. When I test the app on that device, I have occasionally encountered a bug I've not seen anywhere, and can't find any information about.
I can install the application via the adb install command (although I get two messages about unknown commands), but after installing the app, the icon can disappear from the home screen, replaced either with a different icon or no icon.
When the app is launched in this state, rather than seeing my application name in the title bar, it reads "60.0dip". I don't use this value anywhere in my application.
I have never observed this problem on any other phone I've tested on (G1, myTouch, two Motorola Droids, Nexus One), but as I said I've only got one device running 1.5.
I'm looking to get a device (phone, tablet, etc.) for developing Android applications. I know I can use the emulator to get me started, but I feel like that will only get me so far along. I'm looking for something reasonably priced, and I don't want a phone contract, data plan, etc. Anyone have any suggestions?

When I am asked to select a running device I get a device listed as: Serial Number/name:? AVD name: N/A Target: unknown etc,
It seems that my device is being picked up but not able to be used. When I try to run the app I get an "Must set android.target.avd" error.
Is there something I am missing?
I am using netbeans 6.7.1 on Ubuntu 9.10, everything up to date. I have a G2-Touch from T-mobile, if someone tells me where to find it, I will post any other needed information.
Apparently my app needs 2.5 MB (maybe because my photos need 2MB...) and then virtual device can't work with that much MB.
How can I make my virtual device support more than 2.5 MB to get my application working?
