HTC Desire :: Cleared Data From Media Storage App
Jul 15, 2010
so the correct music would display in the music app, which worked. But it also removed ALL standard tones, ie ringtones, notifications and alarm tones... Is there anyway I can get them back without factory resetting, ie download them from somewhere??

My .mail folder contains a bunch of files I can't identify what they are or what they are used for. I have moved ALL THE FILES AND TOKENS to a temp directory and my Here seems to be working fine with the .mail folder empty. I think these files have something to do with email I receive and delete. Has anyone ever cleared out this directory to conserve storage space? Are these useless files and can be deleted?

I'm trying to download Beautiful Widgets and my phone is still hung up trying to authorize previous canceled order. Clearing the cache and even powering down and popping the battery doesn't help. What would happen if I choose "clear data"? Would I loose all the downloaded app info or what. Thanks, Cyn

My rom bootlooped somehow, and I was forced to clear the data partition. Now I want to recover the messages and put them in the (clean) rom.
I extracted /data/data/com.android.providers.telephone/databases/mmssms.db from the nandroid backup before I cleared /data.
I tried copying these files into the rom but the messaging app doesn't show any difference. Is there a way to salvage the messages?

I'm getting the following error message "Unfortunately Gallery has stopped". In the Apps manager for Gallery, I have already cleared the cache and cleared the data, and also pressed "force stop". I've also restarted the phone. However it's still not working.

I used this to check the amount of space on my A2SD partition of my SD Card. However I've noticed that as well as INTERNAL storage, there's something called SYSTEM storage. Which is considerably bigger than whats left of my internal space. Is the INTERNAL used for Multimedia files as this thread suggests?Internal Storage vs Phone Storage. If so. How come my multimedia files have ended up there, when they've always been saved to my SD card.

I've been using the stock music player to trim songs and then set them as my ringtone, however every time I mount my SD card the ringtone reverts back to stock and I have to reset it. Is there a way/app that can let me trim a song, store the trim on the phone (not SD card) and then use it as a ringtone?

I have an application with a lot of media data (images and videos) that were previously stored on the sdcard. With that, images and videos are displayed fine in my app.
Now, in order to secure the content more, I wanted to move the content to the internal storage / data dir of the app, which I did. I copied all media with a routine within my app to the data folder (/data/data/com.myapp/some/folders/video.mp4) and adjusted the path in my app so that it would look for the media in the internal storage data directory and not the sdcard anymore.
Everything works fine, images are being displayed (decoded) properly, but videos don't play. They files do exist though - I do not get a FileNotFound exception. But an IOException: java.io.IOException: Prepare failed.: status=0xFFFFFFFC
Why is that? Everything is handled within my one app and the videos have been copied with the same routine as the images, thus having the same permission settings. Looking at the stack trace, it all runs in process id 18060).
Why I cannot playback the video from internal storage? Or how can I?

I was wondering if the internal 8gb storage on the Droid X can be used for anything other than apps? I want to be able to use that extra storage for more MP3's, pictures, and videos.

I'm in a situation where I have to share some resources (i.e. images) between several of my apps and I'd like to know if there's a standardized and convenient way to do this besides the system-wide Media Store. The reason I don't want to use the MediaStore is that the resources are rather low-level (e.g. icons) and thus the user wouldn't be interested in them cluttering the MediaStore.
As I see it there are three ways to share the resources:
1) Store them in the global MediaStore. 2) Put them on the SD card. 3) Implement a custom ContentProvider for this kind of shared resources.
I like how a custom ContentProvider would encapsulate the way the data is stored, but it seems to be a bit of unnecessary overhead to achieve this. Writing to the SD card is convenient, but rather low-level. Are there any other options suited for this problem?

I am becoming sick of the Incredible's stock player, mainly because of its poor shuffle mode. I have looked at apps like MixZing, Cubed, and DoubleTwist, but these all seem like they won't play music from both the sd card and internal phone storage like the stock player. Are there any players that will do this, and perhaps find album art like the others?

Does anyone have a bead on a well-performing, well-design app that I can store personal data/info with in a secure fashion? Specifically, I want to store information such as my kid's Kaiser ID numbers, doctor's names, etc... but it has to be secure. Poking around in the Market hasn't really turned up any great options for me so I thought I'd turn to the community for suggestions.

I am currently developing a simple info app on various uni campuses. I want the app to operate predominantly in an offline state thus I want to store all my information locally. The data within the app will not be subject to any change thus I was wondering what the best (practice) method was to store such data? Basically should I be storing the info in a SQLite db, java file or xml?

I have just got a HTC desire and like many people would like to be able to get rid of my iPod all together and have just my phone. The problem I'm having is that the media player on the HTC desire doesn't work nearly as well as iTunes. I have several issues that would needed to be resolved and wanted to know if anyone had a solution to any of them
1) Audio books, I have many of these on my iTunes and on an iPod they are displayed in a separate folder and are removed from shuffles, not so on the HTC, solution?
2) Podcasts, Again i subscribe to many podcasts on my iTunes and wanted to know if there was any way of adding them to my HTC automatically or having them download automatically (Despite this being very annoying and clogging up my hard drive with duplicated podcasts)
3)Playlists I am currently using iTunes agent to sync from my iTunes but it means that I cannot sync playlists that i can then play on my phone. (I can sync playlists just not then play them on their own once they are on my phone)

I am developing an application that periodically sends information to an external server.I make a local copy of the data being sent, for backup purposes. What is the best option to store the data in terms of saving battery life? Each data submission is a serialized object (the class has 5 fields, including a date, numbers and strings) of about 5K-10K.Any other idea?

I am from the UK and have just got an HTC Android phone.I have a data usage limit of 500 MB per month on my ty UK network.
I got the My Data Manager app to track my data use and at the top every time (of mobile data not wifi obviously) is 'Calendar Storage'. It uses up stupid amounts of data every day.
I have gone through all my accounts that are synced to my device (facebook, gmail,GMX,linkedin etc) and I have disabled the calendar sync for all of them that have the option available. Yet it still shows as using data every day on calendar storage.

I have a UnRooted Desire HD running 2.3.3, and recently I got the "Low on Space" icon. Upon checking my apps and there size I only have 240ish MB of apps. So I deleted some apps and got 144MB of free space. Then over night my phone went from 144MB down to 8MB of free space (phone was on the charger and wasn't touched all night).
I did download an app called DiskUsage and it shows a very detailed view of whats taking up what space on either the SD or internal storage, and is showing me that my System Data is using 885MB of internal storage space. A friend has the same phone and he got the same app to compare and he only has 90MB of system data. I Hard Reset the phone and hope it doesn't come back, but I would like to know how to correct this issue if it was to happen again.
